This is how a movie about a video game should be done. Good references. Same level of violence. Good character design.
I'm actually excited for this. I had no idea this was coming. I mean we've heard about MK movies for a while now. But nothing came through.
I'm afraid this trailer spoils way too many things. As usual with trailers nowadays.
Still, I can't wait!

And I did not remember Jax losing his arms that way. It's an interesting take if not canon.

Agreed on everything you said. Jaxx lost his arms to Ermac in a similar way but not with freezing of course

I got all excited but wanted to read posts first, this is one of my main complaints with trailers... and why people used to laugh when I'd close my eyes, hum, or just leave a room when ones for movies I really couldnt wait to see came on tv/screen. It's tragic how much they feel they need to put out before hand in trailers, especially when it's a long anticipated film! Half the plot gets ruined or they show plot twists and all the action scenes. While I'm supremely excited to watch this movie, I'm holding off on the trailer for now.

This really annoys me when they do that. I love going into movies knowing next to nothing about it. There are some people who make great trailers, and some that tend to be not so good (spoilers wise). Other than that, I don't really care about this movie. I've never played the games, and I have no attachment to this franchise in any way. Plus, action movies have never been my thing. I hope everyone else loves it though.

Yeah, this does look really good. I don't know enough about Mortal Kombat to know how Jaxx lost his arms, but that definitely looks hardcore. I've played some of the games. The really early ones (MK 1-3) and some of the more recent ones. But, I usually just play classic towers, not anything that gives you much story.

In this case though its Mortal Kombat...its story has been changed very little and been told in multiple formats for the past 30 years.  But I don't mind knowing the plot going in, hell I go out of my way usually to find out the plot, spoilers and all, beforehand.  Movies are to expensive now to go in blind.  Plus I hate surprises.

Jax has lost his arms different ways over the years depending on the story.

Originally, Jaxx lost his arms after forcefully punching Kano causing him to detach his eye while damaging his own arms.  In an alternate reality, Jaxx loses his arms to Ermac who telekinetically rips them off.  In the MK Legends movie: Scorpion's Revenge, Goro rips Jaxx's arms off

From their history, there's more than one storyline how Jaxx loses his arms before getting his cybernetic ones so I welcome it.

Grew up playing the games, all the way from arcade joysticks and buttons through the most recent releases... and they used to complain it was violent! I laughed at that notion when I instead heard the poor mental states of some of the more recent programmers of the series, I mean I do enjoy the savagery and realism but it's a bit hard on their psyches at this point researching and creating. Pure nightmare fuel for some. I mean it's amazingly fun to play at times, but certainly a new spin on "blood, sweat, and tears" went into making this. I even remember watching those older MK movies back when those things were on VHS and would run on TV often (still do sometimes). So I'm really looking forward to watching it regardless, worst case it's absolutely terrible (which just isn't surprising with a movie anymore) but it could kill it instead and really wow the fans. It seems to me like 1-2/6 movies will be such disappointing trash but it's so hard to trust opinions without seeing it first hand. In my experience anyway, I tend to enjoy a lot others don't appreciate.

In the MK Legends movie: Scorpion's Revenge, Goro rips Jaxx's arms off

I think I like the sound of this one best, sounds the most MK to me... Finish HIM! *Rips arms off*  Oh wait, still moving? Ah well, give him new arms and throw him in next round. Fight!

Old movies had Christophe Lambert... They can't do worse than that. (I would like to apologize, as a French, for Christophe Lambert. So sorry folks. He ruined Highlander...)

Oh no, say it isn't so. I used to like him as Raiden. Though of course, when I go back and watch it all I'm like "oh wow, I thought this was a 'great' movie..." like alot of shows/movies you liked growing up and see as an adult. But oh, that just hurts on some deep fundamental level somewhere. I guess I really cant argue though, any way you slice it. They certainly weren't the most polished of cinematic masterpieces. Apology accepted I suppose, though I feel wounded anew regardless. But thanks for the laugh thinking about all those action scenes again.

One movie had Christopher Lambert in it. Talisa Soto (Kitana) and Robin Shou (Liu Kang) are the only two actors from the first film to return for Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Linden Ashby (Johnny Cage) asked to return, but then he read the script.  Shocked  So, yeah, total recasting except for Kitana and Liu Kang. Christopher Lambert was going to return for the third film, but then that never got made and New Line lost the film rights.

Also, Highlander is a great film and Lambert did OK in it. The only issue with that one is that they made 3 garbage sequels. (not counting the TV show, which wasn't garbage)
