So fellow saber enthusiasts what do people think of the Acolyte so far?

Overall seems fine to me  after first two episodes, the sets and design are really good, the story is fine, a bit like a Young adult fiction novel with the twin thing, 'team' composition and overall feel, but that's fine and certainly has its place in the larger canon.  Can't say any of the characters really appeal to me much though, some of the acting is a bit wooden and some feel a bit like stock characters (notably Yord and Jecki)

What I do find interesting is some of the more subtle things going on, like in Episode 2 the  Jedi Master Tobin in a kind of silent trance in a kinetic field was interesting as some more depth into variety of Jedi life, and the goal Mae has of defeating a Jedi without a Weapon and her mysterious masters comments on defeating Jedi by killing the 'Dream' , that is, for me, some genuinely interesting stuff I really hope gets explored, like is it some kind of Sun Tzu 'defeat the enemy without fighting' thing going on there? The twins back story will no doubt get fleshed out too but is of less interest to me than what is going on with Mae's master.

A few oddities and inconsistencies but we've seen far worse in other series (Reeva and the sabre....) So not bad overall, not great, but not bad. Would not have been out of place thus far as animated series though.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

To not get into specifics I feel its the same as pretty much all of Star Wars in this Era....  Some good ideas poorly implemented.

Haven't watched it yet, and I don't know that I care if I do. The interest just isn't there for me.

As a Sith, there is absolutely nothing about this series that I've seen that looks interesting. I've heard no love from any source, it breaks canon, and it's so full of agenda you'd think it was running for office.

As a Jedi, that's what I've heard as well.

I'm enjoying it so far. The only complaints I've seen are mostly about the lack of "straight white men" which is fine in my book. But also I have some legit issues with some things. We'll see but I'm pleased so far.

There are a few moments that you'd probably find interest but alas not much so far....

I think the criticism of it is overplayed some is legitimate but most is just a beat up for clicks and views.

Witch Covens in Star Wars have been around since the Courtship of Princess Leia, and tensions between Jedi and other Force user factions are long established, execution might not be great but its not completely out there, in fact I think the show, so far as episode three was concerned portrayed the tension realistically, the Jedi don't want a fight but there was obviously a history between them and the Coven and certain restrictions were placed on the Coven (I suspect some kind of deal where you can have your Coven, but no child recruitment rule), and the Coven then broke them by 'creating' children so neither side is blameless.

Regardless some of the usual weird nonsense moments we've come to expect from Star Wars disney e.g. stone fortress burning, inexplicable character teleportation, characters as smart or dumb as they need to be for a particular scene.

Again very young adult novel in my view. It's not awful, not great, characters are forgettable archetypes, but there could be some interesting politics and concepts if it leans into them, but I'm not hopeful.

Agreed that 'chant' has to be one of the worst moments of television ever. it is incompressible grown adults filmed that with a straight face. It stripped any sense of foreboding (I thought they were going to sacrifice one of the kids...would've made it interesting and explained Jedi presence a lot better) and turned it into a joke.

Episode 4 was fine, bland but fine, ended on a cool cliffhanger with the 'Master' appearing right at the end, finding out what this guy's deal is and his whole 'kill a jedi without a weapon' thing is the one reason I remain watching it.  I suspect the answers will disappoint me though....

This type of training was employed by Vader when training Starkiller. He was dropped off on a hostile world with no weapons, only the Force, and was instructed to survive and escape through any means.

If were going for spoilers here Ill give my two cents.......

I have no issue with a Force Witch Coven....  But no need to introduce a new one when we have the Nightsisters to use.  Most of my complaints are the usual that have been the case since disney took over.....  No direction only agenda, safe storylines, inconsistent canon and crapping on established lore.  The biggest is them conceiving with the Force.....  that completely invalidates Anakin's birth.    A story of two Force Sensitive twins at odds with each other could have been a damn awesome story and a nice parallel to Luke and Leia but its executed poorly.  I will admit The Masters entrance was pretty good...but that helmet it just stupid imo.  Looks like something out of a bad Anime.   I also wish Disney would switch back to steel rods for the lightsabers...the light bars are hindering the fight scenes.   Now...for a palate clense....

*spoilers**
Well Episode 5 was action packed, the fight choreography was decent, shame the story is still a let down. Was kind of cool to see some Cortosis used in live action for the first time.  Credit where its due was good to see some of the annoying characters get knocked off, and one genuinely good line that is fitting for a dark sider, even a Gray jedi -
"I've accepted my Darkness. What have you done with yours?"

....But there are persistent inconsistencies in characters abilities (their fighting skill seems to change based on the needs of the scene) and not much logic in some of their choices and actions.  Now these happen in plenty of movies and shows and usually easily put aside with the suspension of disbelief necessary to enjoy fiction, but they are just too obvious here to ignore, notably that Mae could beat a Jedi Master in the first episode, yet not a Padawan (who seemed more skilled than the three Jedi the Master just killed) in this episode, and Sol vanishing as the Master killed his fellow Jedi only to appear later to fight the Master dude alone.

It seems a theme with these Disney shows that the protagonist is inevitably less interesting than everything else happening around them in my opinion e.g. Ahsoka/Sabine far less interesting than Baylan and Shin, Andor less interesting than Luthen/Mon Mothma/Dedra Meero, and now the 'Acolyte twins' far less interesting than the 'Master' and Sol. Every scene those twins are in it feels like time that could be better spent on someone or something more interesting.

*if there can be said anything worth spoiling*

Funny fact: You've seen cortosis in every movie/series that involves a ship. Cortosis is heavily alloyed into ship hulls to add to their energy resistance, be it reentry or blasters. There are other materials that have similar properties, but cortosis is easiest to find.

I'm still enjoying it. Maybe I'm the broken one since I don't feel the need to criticize. It's entertainment. Be entertained and have fun, that's how I see it.
