I mustache you, is there an easier way to remove said batteries from my saber without mutilating them with a screwdriver? I seem to be having some difficulties.

Wrap electrical tape around them or glue string. I was wondering this too and those are the answers I found. I used duct tape with the strips cut in half lengthwise and it works great! Just make sure it is on smoothly.
