My (other) character's story.  Or at least what I've got so far.  More to come soon.

Deep underground there are ancient tunnels between the forgotten buildings of another age of coruscant.  The Coruscant of today is built atop these abandoned buildings, and no-one ever comes here anymore except for the occasional broken droid.  Somehow, they always seem to find their way into this forsaken city, expecting to die, but instead they are repaired.  For this is the dwelling of Kaiden Shardsbane, Jedi outcast.  He left the order to escape the stifling traditions and strict lifestyle the council imposed in the last days of the old republic.  Here, he spent his time repairing and modifying the droids that survived long enough to crawl into the cave-like city underneath.  They were vastly different from the droids above, however, having been rebuilt from scraps, but they were no less sophisticated.  Kaiden made sure that each one was as durable as a tank, and as intricate as his lightsaber.
Today he was working on an old Republic-era battle droid.  It’s skinny design was fashioned after a neimodian skeleton, marking it as a Trade Federation droid, but that was no problem for him.  Some simple reinforcing of the limbs, a quick swapping of the burnt-out servo motors, and it’s body was back in business.  Now came the tricky part.  He delicately removed the droid brain, keeping it spinning inside it’s rails, and moved over to his computer station where he plugged the brain into his program, running diagnostics and programming repairs.  Sitting back, he closed his eyes and silently waited for the verdict.  Several minutes later a tone rang, and he sat forward, eyes flickering across the screen.  The test was positive.  The droid had achieved sentience.
It was rare on the surface, but occasionally a droid would be so well put together, and survive long enough to achieve sentience of a sort.  But down here, they seemed plentiful, as only sentient or extremely scrambled droids would venture this far from civilization.  And here, they were found by Kaiden and given a second chance at life.
He reached slowly forward, and lifted the brain back into it’s compartment, reattaching it.  Then he closed the compartment and double checked the droid for any flaws he might have missed.  With a satisfied nod, he reached out with the Force and reactivated the droid.  It sat up, looking around itself in wonder at the other modified droids that watched curiously through the curtains that Kaiden had hung around his workshop.
“Welcome, old one.”  He said,  “You have arrived in the Droid’s City.  Do you understand what that means?”  He had downloaded a file onto the droid’s brain that explained the basics of the civilization the sentient droids had established below Coruscant’s surface.
“Roger roger.”  It replied, showing some of the vestiges of it’s old programming.  Kaiden wasn’t worried though.  They all did that the first few weeks down here.  Soon it would develop a real personality, and now it was time for the first step.
“Good.  Now, it’s time for you to choose a real name for yourself.”  He started packing up his tools as the droid stared blankly while it thought.
“Nathan.  I wish to be called Nathan.”  His sloped ‘face’ remained expressionless, but Kaiden had been around these droids long enough that he could read their emotions as well as any other living being, and he could tell that Nathan was happy with the name.
“Nathan, then.”  He turned to two protocol droids hovering nearby.  “Fr’Kaleth, Slythian, would you two be so kind as to assist Nathan in choosing a living place for himself?  Get him acquainted with the marketplace, and answer any questions he might have.”
They nodded, and Nathan slid off the worktable to follow them, already asking questions in his nasally electronic voice.
Soon after, Kaiden returned to his home, an old tower that had once stood proudly atop a temple of some sort, but now lay on it’s side in the canal it had watched over.  Reaching out with the Force, he wrenched open the huge lock he’d built when he’d converted the place into his home.  The patchwork-metal door slid aside with a clang, and he stepped in, activating the lights to fend off the gloom that was ever-present in the depths of Coruscant.  As the orange glow strengthened, his collection of lightsabers was revealed.
Unlike most ‘collections’ of dead Jedi’s sabers, Kaiden had built every one of these.  Most were just low-powered ‘foils,’ because of the lack of energy and enemies down here, but there were some that were full-powered blades.  These hung on a single wall by themselves, set apart from the toys that adorned the rest of his walls.  These were his favored few, the only lightsabers he carried with him.  Some were smooth, sleekly belying the ferocity of their blades; while others were spiked and bladed, seeming to thirst for battle and carnage; still others were twisted and organic, created from plant life he’d found in the forgotten gardens of the past.  Reaching down, he unclipped his current lightsaber --a hilt that seemed built from scrap, with old rusted plates and exposed wires-- and hung it up in it’s place near the ceiling.  Then he stood back, gazing sentimentally at his old friends.
Suddenly, there came a knock on the door, and Kaiden started.  Then, recovering his composure, he went to see why he was wanted.  He touched the switch, and was surprised to see one of the Border Sentinels standing there.
“What’s wrong?”  Kaiden asked, reaching back towards his wall with the Force.
“There’s a Garbage Worm heading this way, sir.”  The assassin droid’s voice was edged with fear.  “We think it ate it’s way out of the pits when that hyperdrive explosion shut down the garbage system in this quadrant last month.”
Kaiden nodded, selecting two of his sturdiest lightsabers.  They flew to his belt, and he signaled to the droid to lead the way.  It nodded, and scooted off towards the scene, the human running behind.  It nodded, and scooted off towards the scene, the human running behind.
They rushed through tunnels and caverns, dodging around droids that were unaware of of the danger.  They preferred it that way, keeping the inner city peaceful for the protocol droids and other peaceful types.  There were even a few war machines that had grown tired of fighting, and now ran a bar of sorts for the droids.  However, most of the war droids volunteered for the Border Sentinels, doing what they did best.  On occasion, there would be some calamity that broke through their lines, and disrupted the city’s peace, but since the Clone War ended, they became fewer and fewer.
Soon they reached the city wall, a huge slab of duracrete that once comprised a massive shipyard dock.  Over time the inhabitants of Coruscant had built inside it, but they had long since moved on, and now it was the Droid City.  They climbed up the crude stairs that had been carved into the wall, and soon reached the top, where a hovercart idled, ready to carry them to the outpost.  Several battle droids sat inside, garish in their war paint.  It wasn’t all that uncommon for droids of the same model to paint themselves or have Kaiden add cosmetic modifications in order to be unique, but the Border Sentinel droids were particularly harsh about it.  Their paint resembled something from a tribal planet, and they often had spikes or blades welded to their carapaces.  Kaiden leaped up, landing with a muffled thud into an empty place along the rail, and glanced around at them, remembering when each had first arrived in his care.  Then he spotted Nathan across the cart, nervously fiddling with a few clamped-on armor plates.
“Hey Nathan.  You thinking about joining the Sent’s?”  He called over the roar of the engine firing up.
“Affirmative.  I-- think it fits me.”  He looked down at himself.  “I am built for battle after all.”
“Sure, but you can change that if you want.  Just look at Andranos here.”  he slapped a heavily modified astrodroid on it’s domed cap.
“Bah!”  Spat the astrodroid in his deep voice, “And before this, I thought I’d seen some heavy battles, what with what I was repairing.  That’s nothing compared to a Tour with the Sent’s.”  He swiveled to look at Nathan,  “You really outghta think twice about joining up here.  It’ll do you some good to be away from fighting for a while.”
Nathan was about to reply, but the cart jerked, throwing them all off balance.  Kaiden looked up, and saw the worm, at least a hundred meters long, looming ahead.  It’s huge maw gaped, ingesting duracrete and steel as if they were a tasty Alderaanian treat.  The droids around him shouted surprise at it’s mass, producing blasters and aiming at the massive beast.  Kaiden however, leaned forward and shouted instructions to the driver.
“Drive along side it!  You’ll have more of a target to shoot at broadside!”  The driver-- a Magnaguard droid in stormtrooper armor-- nodded, and Kaiden stepped back and to the side, resting his foot on the rail.  Suddenly, they were coming up on the worm, and he leapt, pushing off of the cart and flying at the worm head-on.  Midair, he ignited his lightsabers, the orange and green blades fizzing as they snapped on.  He twisted, diving headfirst at the beast, driving his blades deep as he landed.  Then he pushed off and sailed away from it’s outraged roar as blaster bolts rippled down it’s side from the droid cart.  He reached out with the force, and saw that the blaster bolts were painful, but weren’t doing any serious damage.  The same went for his lightsaber gashes.  He would need to hit somewhere a bit softer...
Quickly leaning back, he dodged a chunk of duracrete that spewed from the worm’s mouth.  Turning the lean into a roll, he recovered and dashed forward again, closing his eyes as he visualized his surroundings in the force.  Every detail stood out in diamond-edged clarity, the scratches in the wall, the metal wedged beneath the worm’s scales, even the dust floating in the air.  Then he was leaping in the air again, slashing downward with his lightsabers at the thing’s eyes, but it jerked back, avoiding him, but it was too slow to avoid the burst of lightning that exploded from his hand, scorching into it’s hide and driving deep into it’s core.  Smoke curled from the beast, and it convulsed as it died.  Slowly Kaiden floated downward, smoke curling from the hilt of his lightsaber where the lightning had burnt the leather grip.
No matter,  He thought, I’ll be able to get enough leather off of this thing to wrap a thousand sabers.  Not to mention the scales.

A battle droid named Nathan. Oh, the possibilities... XD A very good piece though, I like it. Well written, and a good introduction to the character. I like it best when the story of a character is told this way, so you focus on not just their story, but the context of it as well. You know, so you think about the people around them and the environment and circumstances that make the character do and say what he does. Gives you a much better picture of the character whose story you're reading. Smiley

Kaiden, if you may, copy the second piece and add it to the
first post.

There is a MODIFY button on the upper right corner of the
post box of your first post. Click that to paste the second
part of your story there.

So we can save some space for our great forum.  Wink
