Greetings forum mates! This intro is kind of long, but bear with me. I think you will enjoy the story.
I am Abraxus. The name is one that I originally created for my first character in City of Heroes. When I started playing SWTOR, it sounded like an appropriate Sith-like name, so I resurrected it, and I think it works. I am a former Marine (back in my youth), and currently make my living on computers at a mid-sized hospital in my area (which is Central California). I have been a Star Wars fan since the first time I saw the movie during the summer of 1977, when I was 15. I must have seen it 20 times that summer, riding my bike miles every weekend to take it in just one more time, until it finally left the theater. Since then, I have read the books, played the games, and hoped someday I would have something that would bring me just a little closer to the Star Wars experience, like having my very own light saber. Well, now that is a reality, and I could not be happier! But, it almost did not happen.
I first came to UltraSabers kind of reluctantly. My son, who already had two Force FX sabers, told me he needed my help to order a saber from this new place he had found. He had some birthday money, and this was what he wanted to spend it on. As I said, I was reluctant, because the Force FX sabers, while nice to look at, were rather useless for actual combat. He told me that this was different, and that these sabers were rated for combat! I was kind of thinking "Whatever!", when I agreed to help him, but I did it anyway. I figured it would be a good learning opportunity when he got it, and discovered it was no better than what he already had, and think twice before going down this road again. Instead, it turned out to be a lesson for me to learn.
I set up an account, and ordered the saber he wanted. An Initiate V3, in Guardian Blue, with a Heavy Grade blade. A few days later, it arrived, and he was so excited, he called me at work to tell me all about it. I was still rather pessimistic, but congratulated him on his purchase, and told him I would check it out when I got home. When I did finally see it, I was blown away! It was in a totally different class from the Force FX sabers, and I could tell by the feel of it that it was everything it was advertised to be, and more! I decided at that moment, I had to have one of my own! Father's day was coming up, so I showed my wife what I wanted, gave her "the look" to add emphasis to the request, and she did not hesitate in giving me permission to get my own Father's Day gift. That very moment, I was back on the US site, ordering my VA Raven, with a Heavy Grade UltraEdge blade.
Here is where the story takes an unexpected twist. In my overexcited state, and given the lateness of the hour, combined with my unfamiliarity with the intricacies of the ordering menus, I left something out that I really wanted. I attempted to recall the order, and add the option. I did not know that what I was actually doing, was creating a 2nd order for the same saber! In the end, there were two almost identical Raven's delivered to my house. Tempted as I was to keep them both, I figured if I was going to have two sabers, I wanted them to be two different models. So, I made arrangements to send one of them back, and got an Archon V2 (along with a vented coupler, and a Dark War Glaive emitter, so I could change things up at will). So, in the space of a couple of weeks, I went from not even knowing about UltraSabers, to owning two of my own, and having my son's Initiate hanging on the wall right next to them. Now, as I have said in other posts, I need to learn how to use them properly. It just seems such a waste to own such top grade equipment, and not know how to put it to proper use.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience here in the SaberForums, and have found all the folks around here very helpful, and very friendly. I look forward to a long association, and the opportunity to get you know you all better.
