It's the same reason that some colors don't light up the whole length of the blade: Light is dimmed and travels much slower through the blade walls. If the inside were entirely covered in black paint, it wouldn't go through that; even if light from the LED got into the blade walls themselves, it would only illuminate the first few inches before it faded. If there were some material that could carry the light through to the end, I think it might work though... it's a good idea.

Nah, Ultraedge would actually be worse because it's a more opaque polycarbonate. The blade itself looks brighter because of the whiteness, but less light actually comes out.

Hmm. Need to think more on that then.
Also notice Ulra Edge is now default on every saber order.
No longer costing more on a new saber.
Maybe they have too much Ultra Edge!

This might sound like a very stupid idea, but couldn't you pour black paint into a blade without a tip, let it soak on the film for a while, so it can dry, and the pour some form of clear epoxy to seal it, put the tip on, and glue on a piece of clear plastic on the end where the blade goes into the light saber?

i have a theory i have been running through my mind for weeks now, months even since i first saw this thread..., peps wanna see the effect from the game on pc "ToR" and i might possibly be close to something... , no paint involved, no gimmicks... ... i wont go into details till i can make a video...and test my theory, but i do think it can be achieved... well back to work on it lol
a side note.. my theory is to allow glowing color on the outside, but still see a center darker from any direction you look at the saber..
again, this is purely for those that want a non star wars themed saber ...... nothing more nothing less... i like a challenge is all..

what if you lined the inside of the blade with something like black construction paper? then the center would be black and the tubing around it would be illuminated. It would probably work best with a mid-grade blade from ultrasabers. it wouldn't be the best quality but it might work...
