After fencing for approximately 12 years, I really enjoyed watching this. We call it a "balestra," which is a great way of advancing to obtain the right-of-way in a bout. Great explanation of this footwork, well done.

Good catch!  One of my favorite things in that part was that he discouraged bobbing during the technique - you want as much of your motion to remain forward as possible, since the point of the attack is to make a quick and staccato advance without wasting energy.  Well done there!

Also, my compliments on the video as a whole.  I do intend to produce a footwork video at some point, but I can't help endorsing this one - it is a fine source of knowledge on many important Makashi concepts.  This Form is heavily reliant on footwork, so practicing this is something I cannot stress enough.

Good form, Master Nonymous!

I've really been needing to brush up on my footwork, so this is some great motivation to get out and practice some more.  Awesome stuff!

Thanks! I am glad to see it being recognized by the fencers here. In Chinese we call it "Wild horse jumps the stream", but it is identical in performance to the Ballestra.

That's it I am switching to Chinese martial arts.  You have WAY cooler names for things.
