Its hard to pick a top 5... so how about some I just like.

Avenue Q is really funny. It's the adult version of Sesame Street.
I loved Wicked when I saw it.
Shrek the Musical has some excellent music.
Eric Whitacre's Paradise Lost. I haven't seen it but I love the music.
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is really great too.
We did Les Mis, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Bye Bye Birdie, and Aida in High School. Those were fun.

I'm sure I'll think of more.

The Little Mermaid? Awesome. See? There's one more already Cheesy

Wicked love YAYYY Cheesy

My  top 5:

1. Wicked (again Grin ,did I tell you that Ashana is partially based on Elphaba, well not based, it was more of a happy coincidence, like all the songs from Wicked fit her (Ashana, that is Wink) but this isn't the thread to discuss such things in.)
2. West Side Story
3. Les Mis
4. Phantom of the Opera
5. Bye Bye Birdie (did that for school and had a lot of fur being one of the crazy teenage girls Grin)

Got to be in several musicals while in school and later worked on several more...including operas.

West Side Story (Indio of the Sharks)

Frankenstein Follies (I was Wolfie the teenage werewolf afraid of girls, Drak in bat form flapping across stage in a big bat costume I made, one of my first full costumes...and the entire sound effects score was me on recording or live)

Oliver (I had over a dozen roles in this one...quick bits and cast for big numbers...Fagin's Boy, copper, workhouse headman, shop keeper, etc.)

As an adult I played in a couple local adult theater musicalx

Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey II...there were three of us singing, operating, and moving the prop which I built...one of the largest props I ever built...it was made of cloth over tight cell foam with puppet wires for the tendrils)

Cats...I tried out for the Grizabella role when the local theater in Miami put on the big show...surprisingly I was not the only guy...I was the only straight guy though lol...I sang all my parts in natural tenor and upon request sang Memory in countertenor, I did really well, but in the end the lady that got the part was amazing...I got called back and was offered 2nd study position, an honor...though I never got to perform...was great experience.  In the end I got to work on lots of costumes and did stand in work during rehearsals...enough so that this was my last foray into singing...without the proper training to backup the effort I ruined my voice which was marginal to begin with...but it was worth it.

How about naming/linking a favorite song/number from musical theater?

You're a tenor Rel? Cause I'm a soprano, and Crossing is an alto, and Nekesus sings bass, so we could do a 4-part Saberforum group!

Lol maybe...when I can find the right timing health/voice wise, I fall within a much lower Tenor or even high range Baritone....depends on the song for the most part...ones that hold emotional context help me push through the effort to hold the notes at this point...I would try again for a shot at a decent local production, maybe at the University/College, Phantom or Fagin perhaps?

Yes I am sure I could pull off a very decent Fagin...hmmm   Wink

My all time favorite, not that many of you will know it, is White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. I also really liked Holiday Inn. Yeah... I like older musicals... lol
