So here is my first review of my first saber.
My Order:Saber:- Raven
- Fire Orange MLS with QD
- Normal Claws
- SS Pommel
- Obsidian Sound
- Midgrade Blade
- Covertec Wheel
Extras:- Blazing Red MLS with QD
- Violet Amethyst MLS with QD
- Arctic Blue MLS with QD
- Blade Plug
- Covertec Clip
- Hex Wrench
Delivery/Shipping:It took quite a while for me to receive this, it shipped via UPS Worldwide Saver and got to South Africa in about 3 days, the delay came from Customs where it was delayed for 2 weeks.
UPS let me do an after-hours collection of my Saber on Saturday, from the warehouse nearest to me, which I'm grateful for
The
Raven shipped in a 4" x 4" x 48" box, wrapped in super bubble wrap of doom to protect the contents during shipping.
Pics:My
Raven's batteries seemed close to death when I took these so the colours aren't as bright as they should be.
Here are some pics of the saber with the different coloured MLS units:
Electronics & Parts:The light from the saber is really bright (when it's not about to die), and if you order Quick Disconnect on your MLS it is easy to change the units as you simply unclip the connectors on the wires.
The sound is nice and loud, and with the ability to change the sound fonts via the Obisidian Launcher it gives great customisability.
The motion detection bases it's sounds off movement of the pommel, this means you can show off the cool sounds with a flick of the wrist
Here is a disassembly of my
Raven to show an overview of some of the main parts as well as some of the extras:
The parts are as follows:
1. MLS unit
2. Emitter
3. Blade Plug
4. Covertec Clip
5. Power Switch
6. Pommel
7. Claw
8. Handle
9. Blade
The Blade Plug:The Blade Plug is really useful if you are intending on wearing or displaying your saber without the blade as it prevents you shining the light from the MLS into someone's eyes. Trust me when I say you don't want that light shining in your eyes even for a second.
This is a picture of my
Raven with the Blade Plug in, taken with the camera reducing the ligth glare:
Comparison to Other Weapons:As a point of reference for anybody wondering about the size and weight of the
Raven compared to a sword I've included these images:
The
Raven is being compared to one of my Katana's and my Longsword, both of which are approximately 42" long, the hilt of the Katana is approximately 11" long.
I haven't measured my
Raven but I'd estimate it to be about 46" long.
As far as weight comparison goes the
Raven is the lightest of all 3 with the majority of its weight in the hilt.
I won't comment on the ability to spin it or its balance points as I don't have that kind of skill, the best i can do is figure 8s and flip it to and from a reverse-grip, which seems easier with the
Raven's round hilt than with the Katana's oval hilt...
Conclusion:The
Raven gets that "oooohhh
" reaction from people, it's great to wield, great to hear the sounds of the Obsidian board and looks awesome in any colour!
Plus it scares my friend's cats away which is an added bonus as I'm allergic to them
maybe I should call it Catbane
