You're telling me.  My calves are like tree trunks and I wear a 16.  My cosplay boots I had to be specially made.

Yup. I have a hell of a time finding boots period. Fashion boots? Forget that. I usually just have to buy mens to fit my calves. I did find a great pair of women's motorcycle boots that have adjustable straps that fit for my cosplay. I suggest looking for real boot instead of costume, better quality and better selection.

Pretty much what Sam said, anything large enough into my size enters "custom" sizes and prices.  My calves are pretty big (I'm walking 8 hours a day) but I've seen way bigger...just baffles me this is an issue

bB has a man in his crew with a similar affliction. I heard him say, "I have arms like legs, and legs like people." I can't remember if he had boots, or if he just rocked normal shoes. I'll do some digging.

They're not exactly cheap, but Son of Sandlar makes supreme quality boots of all sizes. I got a pair from a local Renn Fest this year and I love everything about them.

As an addendum: By "not exactly cheap" Zyn means "ridiculously expensive."

As in, the cost of a pair will easily eclipse the cost of an Ultrasaber with all the trimmings. Double it if you go all out.

However, this is one of those times where you definitely get more than you pay for. They make them custom to fit your feet and legs out of high quality materials that will last a long time. A friend of mine bought a pair and after fifteen years of constant wear and tear at Renaissance Festivals (far worse on footwear than a convention), he finally needed to get them resoled (which they do for free, IIRC).

As I said, they are not cheap, but they are worth the cost.

Yes, SoS boots are not cheap, but neither is the quality of their product. When it comes to something like boots, you get what you pay for. I'd already been through three pairs before I found these, and the three pair combined cost the same as 1 pair of SoS boots. So if someone here needs them and wants a good pair that will last a long time (if you take proper care of them), SoS gets 5 stars IMHO.

If I went to Cons and the like I would absolutely drop a decent amount on a good pair of boots.  But since I only get to wear a costume on Halloween to hand out candy, it really isn't practical.  Related Vent, so tired of non of my costume ideas working.

But how long are you in them? Also where do you live that is so devoid of cons?

Maybe a few hours, but since I'm at home I'm not walking around a lot.   I never said there were no Cons, I don't go to them.  No time, money or real energy to go to them.  I live in Florida and the headache of my 2 hour commute to work and the 2 hour commute home is plenty, making the 4 hour trip (conservative estimate) to the Convention Center fighting Florida Traffic on the weekends isn't really worth it to me at this point.  The less time I spend in a vehicle the better.
