Hello Saberforum

Many people been asking and wondering about the Emerald Driver configurations to achieve the flickering/shimmering effect using the Emerald Driver. So here it is the video demonstrating on the flickering/shimmering effect. I like to say it look super amazing I know the video recording is not the best but if you had the saber in person is feels, looks way toooooooooo real! ;D

Settings:

he Configuration:

Timing: 0s - 0.1s - 0s - 0.1

FoC: 0.1 Play 3 times.

Colors:

Primary LED2 225 (Green) , Secondary LED2 175 (Green)
FoC LED2 225 (Green) LED3 225 (Blue) = Very Light Blue

Looks great, just like the sabers in the movies. I'll try to remember that when I have my Emerald Graflex one day xD

Dude that FoC is so intense.  I definitely gotta try something like that once I get an Emerald saber.  It's probably just the effect of the contrasting colors but it''s pretty awesome.

Does Flash on Clash work with emerald sabers without sound? I have a emerald prophecy, and they do not come with sound in the emeralds. and I don't know if flash on clash will work for it, but it isn't right now, just got it today tho, so I may not know what im doing wrong.

You can go as low as 0.02...  On all settings... For any emerald... Anything below .1  is only allowed in 2s.. 0.02-0.04-0.06-0.08   But you can get all the settings to go that low. There are MANY doors for effects opened with emerald drivers.

Yeah, and on the ramp-up and ramp-down for the pulse you can even set them to 0, so you can get a very quick strobe of .02 for one color and then the other. I find that this works especially well if the colors are more or less the same hue, but different in brightness.

Can anyone recommend good emerald settings if you want to achieve the same kind of shimmer effect with Article Blue as the primary?

Holy crap, I am trying this immediately!  That makes it look super realistic, like it would just burn your hand right off if you even dared to touch the blade.

No, Flash on Clash only works on sabers with sound, even when you have an Emerald saber. It's a feature built into the sound board, so it won't work without it....until there is an upgraded Driver available that merges the Emerald as well as the sound board features into one board ;) Which is quite unlikely due to the complicated structures of both boards...

I run my configuration at .02 .04 .04 .02 with the colors being essentially the same, just one being ever slightly dimmer than the other. It gives it a really nice flicker - almost gives the blade a scary unstable look.

It was mentioned in another topic that some users have noticed a fraction of a second "darkness" in the blade when it pulses between colors during a "slow" pulse setting.  Has anyone noticed this on either the quickened pulse or the slow pulse?  Just curious.

My setting is so fast that if there is a darkness portion I can't see it - even after close investigation.  It looks like a constant  subtle flicker.

Same.  The only time I notice it is when I have a slow pulse, like a 2-3 second setting.  I honestly think that's normal, though.  I actually didn't even notice that until someone else pointed it out in another thread.

I'll have to check mine out later at a slower setting and see.
It wouldn't really surprise me, the transition to colors probably involves a momentary switch off.

That's what I think as well.  I'm 99.9% sure it's what it is supposed to occur.  It would make sense to me, at least.

I tried it!  Here is the result with my Bellicose:

(I am techno stupid and have no idea how to make this show up as "imbedded" in this post.  Also?  Camera phone.  :P  )

Hm, kind of hard to tell in the video.
I like the effect it has on video though, it really looks like it's pulsating.

And as far as having an embedded video - that's beyond me.
Some sort of tomfoolery involving tiny ewoks in the internet probably.

Oh, I meant I tried the settings in the original post.  I can't even see that flicker of "darkness" with this setting.  :)

Yeah, I figured it involved Ewoks.  Or Gremlins.  It always does. . .

Yeah, I had pointed that out in my suggestions for a new emerald driver thread; however, you may have seen it in another thread  ;).  I notice the flicker at the onset and offset of only the fourth stage of the light pulse under longer time frames > 1 sec.  I was playing around and wanted a longer pulsing and noticed the flicker which bothered me!  Perhaps Deep or Ultra could chime in here?  Perhaps it's a firmware issue that could be updated?

Since you notice it as well, it's likely a firmware problem and not a problem with my board.  If you slow the times down to 3 secs per section, do you notice the flicker at the beginning and end of the last section as well?

I love the shimmer effect! Is this something that can be done with the V4 board?

Title: Re: Emerald Driver Config Flickering Shimmering effect

No, it's not possible with the v4 sound board. Only the Emerald-equipped sabers are capable of that...

That's what I thought. I have the Emerald with the v4 sound board, just haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet. I'll have to get to it!

FWIW (better late than never I guess) - I've just configured the following settings, which IMHO looks pretty good as a 'Cold Blue' setting:

Idle Pulse:
Total Time: 0.26s (You can speed this up/slow it down to suit)
Timing: 0.06s - 0.10s - 0.08s - 0.02s
Color1: R: 0% , G: 100% , B: 100% , W: 50%
Color2: R: 0% , G: 75% , B: 100% , W: 10%

Flash on Clash:
Total Time: 0.06s, Play 3 times
Timing: 0.04s - 0.02s
Color1: R: 50% , G: 90% , B: 100% , W: 100%
Color2: R: 0% , G: 75% , B: 100% , W: 10%

I can post the lscfgx file somewhere if that is easier (and you tell me how!) - can also post a video of it if someone wants to walk me through the process.

Some thoughts - I've noticed that lightsaber cores usually look bright white in the movies with an outer 'glow' indicating the lightsaber color. In the absence of super-bright LEDs, my approach was to approximate this effect by using an off-white main color that flicks to the 'glow' color (trying to trick/confuse the eye into interpreting the glow color as being the blade color).

The more different the two colors and the shorter the duration, the more of a pronounced strobe-effect you get (not what I was after)...

I was also tuning the config within a Windows 7 VirtualBox guest VM under a Linux host, so some of the Launcher features weren't working (ie. I couldn't see the colors and timings in the color picker bars, had to disconnect to test etc).
