Title: Daniel Anterons guide to using Lee filters... every color of the rainbow.
Post by: Daniel Anteron on November 08, 2012, 12:23:14 PM
Hey there everyone I finally got around to purchasing an Adegan Silver MLS for my Consular. Because of this I have decided to start a thread for those that are curious about using filters. First things first you need to get your filters.

http://www.shop.leefiltersusa.com/Swatch-Book-Designers-Edition-SWB.htm (http://www.shop.leefiltersusa.com/Swatch-Book-Designers-Edition-SWB.htm)

Now once you get yours its time to decide on what colors to use. I've decided I want to really fine tune my options so I have a very very large selection I will be trying out. :D

As you can see I just cut them out. One of the many wonderful things about Lee Filters is you have lots of colors to choose from. To get the filters to fit I just take my emitter off and trace around the bottom of it on the filter. This ensures the piece will be large enough that it will completely cover the LED. That's pretty much it for now. Once the AS MLS arrives I plan on taking a picture of the saber with every single filter so you all can see the different shades.

One thing to note is that since these are filters they will dim the brightness of your blade. This doesn't bother me since US sabers are already so bright. Stay tuned for the actual update when I test all these colors out for you guys. And if any of the mods wish to move this topic or possibly sticky it so new individuals can learn what these filters are, and what they can do. Please feel free to do so. ;D

I'm excited to see what colors you achieve! I freaking love Lee filters. Definitely one of the best things about AS!

Really nice idea for a sticky post. Props for attempting to take pics with every single filter, that'll be a lot of work!

I look forward to seeing what you manage to come up with!

Thanks guys! Every now and then we always have a new person that comes around asking about them so I figured I would take the time to explain just what they are and where to get them. Then I decided I would take the time to show the wide range of colors one can achieve with them.

One thing to note is that these filters will work on any color. For example taking my PO MLS and adding a light red filter gives me this.

It's hard to tell but in person it looks very much like this only slightly more red.

Also AB can get some really fantastic colors out of it.

As nice kind of lime green.

However, this is my current favorite color I've come up with.

I would imagine it's very similar to Nero's Emerald green saber. Really that picture doesn't do it justice. It looks more like this.

I cut mine out by tracing around the blade. I will just be using the standard US colors and some special colors for tomorrow. =] Lime green being my main color and favorite.

Which is what I would imagine the true color to look like! Mine's very cyan in person because I have Li-ions and Silver FoC. I recently put a Dark Green Lee in it though, which made it a perfect Emerald Green! Even more, the FoC is like Consular Green! It's awesome haha. Anyway, I think EG is best in a stunt saber with either Alkaline or NiMH batteries. Hopefully this wasn't too off topic, but I think my mention of a Lee filter justifies it.  ;)

Sounds good Zen post some pics of it.! :)

Glad you were able to fine tune your color. I honestly love this color. It looks amazing, and it's still insanely bright. I'll post a pic tonight of it in a brightly lit room. Unless if I'm holding it directly next to a light bulb its still super bright!

Woot! I think you'll really enjoy them. Can't wait to see your pics of them. :)

Btw for anyone that's curious these pictures were taken using a standard mid grade blade.

Yup I gotta say, as Daniel said the filters do work on colors other than the silver, I used some Gamcolor filters I had around to alter my consular green to be more how I picture green, used a light yellow filter to bring it closer to the middle of the green spectrum, as I felt consular green leaned a bit towards blue.  Just have to be careful to use a color filter that isnt too saturated that it makes your blade dim.

That's nice. Looks like I'm going to avoid RGB and get myself an Adegan Silver with Lee filters. Though our local Lee filters store is out of stock of those little swatch booklets, but I'll wait.

I was leaning that way, but wanted flash-on-clash.  I couldn't find any mention in the forum of anyone combining AS primary with filters + FOC.  Obviously, the flash would have to be a colour other than AS.  Anyone have a link, or insights?

In the mean time, I went CG and GB for my first sabers; both with AS for flash...

Cheers,
Saint

Ok guys I got my AS MLS in the other day....

 :o I. LOVE. IT!

Ok so anyways onto some Lee Filters for you guys. I'm going to do this in segments. Just so everyone knows I have no idea at this point which colors are which in the swatch book. I have cut out so many that it would be hard to say this one is this color and that one it that. As such I will show you a shot of each color filter in a group, and then what each color looks like. Here's the first 15 I'll be doing for you guys.

Up first we have a very light blue.

This one's pretty cool. It's hard to tell, but it gives it a slightly more silver look.

Next we have a very nice yellow.

Next is a slightly darker yellow. There's not much of a difference so either is good for a very good yellow.

This next one is one of my favorites. It's a very close approximation to PO. The only down side is it's a little dim.

This one was hard to get. It's a very yellow green kind of color.

This one is kind of a green yellow.

This one is another one of my favorites. It's a very very close approx. of CG.

I found a pretty good GB. It's a little dim though.

Love this one. It reminds me of the yellow they had in the KotOR games. It was always a very amber yellow rather than a light vibrant yellow.

I like the color you get with this next one, but I don't like how dim it is.

This next one is probably very close to what BH looks like, and it's pretty bright.

This next one I absolutely love! It's way too dim though sadly, but it reminds me of what a black light looks like.

This was the closest I could get to an accurate picture of this one. If you have AS and some Lee Filters you should try it out it's sweet. If you have or have seen a black light you'll know what the color looks like.

This next one gave me a sweet Cyan color.

Finally while this last one is a little dim it gives you a great Windu style purple.

Point for providing that link.  I'm getting a Tri-Rebel with 3 whites on it...pretty excited to get two of them up and running with filters!

Thanks again for the link!

Nice colors. There were only a few reds that I liked but not too many.

That was an insanely cheap price for Lee filters.

I don't even have AS but I still purchased a swatch-book.

I think I know what my next color will be.  This will be an excellent opportunity to try out a plethora of different colors not usually available in the LED variant.

Who knows, maybe I can turn my SY Initiate V3 into a FO or something similar?

I've been using a 1 inch circle punch that I found on amazon to punch out my color discs. Less hassle for sure.

*Ker-chunk*

Done.

8-9 hours later and I ended up purchasing my first MLS Unit with the 15% off sale, a Adegan Silver MLS Unit in FoC Blue, specifically so it could [hopefully] work well with orange, yellow, and those green colors.

I use my AS with a blue flash on clash with the lee filters and I have a ball with it.
