Title: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Temple on November 26, 2012, 01:59:33 AM My plan was is to build a matched set of heinland theme sabers. Based loosely off Vaders ANH saber. The concept was one of Vaders lost/Failed apperentices.
I have aquired a heinland 2 cell and a 3 cell Flash tube. (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u266/demonbunnyman/KGrHqFqkF9gDgZcHBQfLdkYqkw60_57.jpg) (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u266/demonbunnyman/T2eC16Fy8E9s2fjEIBQm01wU0tQ60_57.jpg) I started with the 2 cell since it came in the post frst. (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u266/demonbunnyman/T2eC16Fy8E9s2fjEIBQm01wU0tQ60_57.jpg) After gutting it and seeing what parts could be salvaged i started the build. I was able to salvage the Flash Emitter and drill it out to take set screws and thumb screws to keep the blade sturdy. I was also able to make a rubber shim to keep the LED housing in place. (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u266/demonbunnyman/20121123_184514.jpg) Installed will be a Vader Hasbro Ulti FX board and a mini Avatar pulsing Happy meal toy board. I may install a PLI in the Box on the grip. I have plix but fried it due to a cracked resistor. Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Rina Ascura on November 26, 2012, 11:17:25 AM A very nice saber you're making. It already looks professional.
Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Sandtracker on November 26, 2012, 12:23:41 PM Nice saber!
Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Master Bluespike74 on November 26, 2012, 02:15:06 PM You often see people leaning toward Graflex builds. I do not believe I have seen anyone tackle this previously. I anxiously await further details of your progress.
Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: eerockk on November 26, 2012, 02:23:41 PM Man, it looks like Vader's! That is sweet! Point for authenticity!
Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Manroon on November 26, 2012, 06:46:30 PM ............ Wow! Welcome to the club! You've got an awesome build shaping up here! I love that you're doing the 2 and 3 cells as a pair!
I've actually done a 2 Cell Heiland myself, as far as I know you and I are the only ones at this point. I searched around a lot when I did mine and couldn't find any others out there at least. Can't wait to see how yours turns out! I can already tell you're going a bit of a different direction than I did, but I like it. That bubble on the pommel is certainly unique, and a cool effect. I wonder if I might ask about how (approximately) your measurements turned out on the internals? I did a sort of crystal chamber effect in mine, saving the original brass bulb socket for use as an LED holder, and also kept the original button for an activator. I'm curious to see what sort of setup you came up with to cut down some of that space and fit your soundboard in. I thought about doing sound, but came up short of space in that tiny hilt. It's something I may try to go back and add in the distant future, if I get gutsy. lol Man, I have to say I am totally surprised to see another 2 Cell Heiland conversion! Major points to you, I never thought I'd see one besides my own. Have to say I'm really looking forward to seeing your finished take on it. It'll be great to see another variation! P.S. If you're curious, here's my old build thread. I'm afraid I neglected to shoot pics of my internals. Or one after I added the set screw I stole from a Vader conversion kit. lol http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=4729.0 (http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=4729.0) Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Master Bluespike74 on November 26, 2012, 08:03:57 PM How in the love of goodness did I miss your build Manny. I went through all 5 pages and I did not post even once. So correction is that this is now the 2nd build that I have seen and I still like the fact that people are leaning toward this type of build.
Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Manroon on November 26, 2012, 10:25:51 PM *shrug* It's an older thread now, and even if it weren't there's a lot of threads to keep track of on the forum. Plenty of things I don't reply to myself. lol The important thing is that you're right though, it's great to see more of these! Let alone a matched 3 and 2 Cell pair!
Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Temple on November 27, 2012, 02:23:59 AM Haha Manroon funny you mention your 2 cell build i actually found your youtube vid after i orderd my 3 cell. the 2 cell came first, your build gave me a little insight on size. my flash tube emitter was slightly diff than yours on the 2 cell. The 2 cell has the same innards as your 2 cell. I am scrapping the 3 cell emitter for a TCSS anaking FX conversion part.
If i remember the tube is 1.5" wide, plus i did mount the blade holder Mod* about 1/2" higher with set screws.I will be mounting a 7mm lighted tactile switch a soon as i get it from hong kong lol. Plus a micro laching switch for the pulse board on off. I also need to fabricate a ring to sit around the base of the half dome to appear as a mounting edge. Will also be adding a covertech wheel in silver since the box will be black along with the emitter, and instead of the wiper blade look i found some small round adhesive half domes that i will use as grips. I will be doing a hybrid graflex build in the near future but they are hard to come by. the heinlands are a tad easier to locate. I do have some hooks out in other channels to source more of them. Will gladly share if anyone is looking if i come across more than i need. :) Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Manroon on November 27, 2012, 06:40:02 PM AHHH, I see now! That 1/2" is where you got the room. As I recall, that's about how short I was of the minimum I would have needed to squeeze an Obsidian with Lith Ion in there. If I ever do another one of these (unlikely I'll admit) I may sacrifice the crystal effect for that. The hilt practically cries for the lack of sound. lol And I think I see the differences on the emitter now as well. For one thing the screws on the back of yours are MUCH larger than mine (I'm guessing those are your set screws?), and it also looks like yours is a lighter color by the last pic. That might just be the lighting, but I like the look. Gives a nice Ani-Vader hybrid feel.
I'm glad my youtube vid was helpful in some way! It's always nice when my own fun can contribute to someone else. :) I like the thought of the lighted switch on there, that will be cool! I wish I'd thought to get a Micro latching switch for my build. It would be murder to switch it out now, and I went with a Micro Momentary at the time because I was thinking I'd find a way to squeeze in sound somehow. Though the dead man's switch effect that created is fun, and it's more a display / cosplay hilt for me than a fighting one, so it's not a major detriment. I like the sound of how yours is coming together. All the black on there, coupled with the pulsing dome and the domed grips, will make for a sweet look. I've never seen grips like that, and I've long been a fan of black activation boxes. The covertech..... eh, to each his own I suppose. lol I'm sure it will fit with your rounded style though. I doubt a D-Ring would look right next to domed grips and such anyways. ;) Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Temple on November 29, 2012, 03:55:29 AM More in Progress photos. Mounted the covertech and drilled the 4-440 holes ( still need button heads ) for the box. added the dome grips. will add the micro switches and black the aluiminum soon as i get the material. Parts also came for the 3 cell which i will start on in the next few days. Still need to clean the excess sticky goo off the hilt.

Anakin TCSS FX adapter as the emitter Cut down the Flash tube 3/8th of the inch cut a channel in the emitter to mounth wires for the switch More info to come (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u266/demonbunnyman/20121128_200617.jpg) (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u266/demonbunnyman/20121128_200747.jpg) (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u266/demonbunnyman/20121128_200830.jpg) (http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u266/demonbunnyman/20121128_184224.jpg) Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Manroon on November 29, 2012, 08:12:59 PM Okay, those are just all out SICK. You definitely went the opposite direction of what I did on mine, and I LOVE what you are coming up with! The Anakin emitter ring inside the Heiland shroud is just genius. It looks fantastic. The silver shroud on the 2 cell is really nice, it helps keep the saber from going too dark with the black grips, which are every bit as unique as you promised. This pair is going to be beautiful when it's finished!
Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Temple on December 10, 2012, 04:04:25 AM Dalek Saber... reworked lol had some issues with the dots sticking.

Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: eerockk on December 10, 2012, 02:35:29 PM Are you kidding? You turned that metal flash tube into that awesomeness? Is there any limit to talent of the people that visit these boards? Monday's inspiration came early this week! Absolutely, stunningly, awesome!
Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Temple on December 10, 2012, 04:53:24 PM thanks guys will be doing some more work to this one and have to still finish the counterpart to this one too
Title: Re: Heinland Saber Project Post by: Manroon on December 10, 2012, 06:54:59 PM Loving the progress! I saw the Graflex pins! Excellent way to deal with the original switch hole, and I really like your new switch. I was curious how that would turn out, and I like your solution even more than I thought I would. Excellent work! Very unique, very cool. I love that there's two of these out there now, and yet both of them are so completely different from each other! 2 Cells FTW!!! 8)
