So I got all the saber sounds recorded in the kit fisto and general grevious fight, but I'm not sure how to get just the lightsaber sounds done. So any help would be good. Like I'm trying to figure out how to get the power on, off, impacts, swings, and lock ups. So thanks if anyone can help me out with that. I fallowed all of errocks steps though.

I need answers by tonight if possible because I got all the recordings I needed. "Hey R-6 where are you? Meet me at the platform!" For the boot. I just don't really know how to time everything else. Like each swing, each impact, lock up, etc. I want to kick in atleast once for free custom sounds and I promise it'll be nice and loud. =]

I guess I'm just not cut out for this kind of stuff. I haven't had any practice or anything. I can't figure out how to get the timing of Fisto's lightsabers or anything. x.x I wish there was a tutorial on this part.

I'm still working on the font. didn't realize how frustrating this all was. I didn't notice too that you guys do one sound at a time. x.x Getting all of the swings and clashes will be hard same with the lock up. I wish the youtube converters were working because then I'd just upload it directly and edit on everything.

I could use some more help on this. x.x Everything is still kind of confusing to me. I know how to cancel out noise now but I just don't know. xp You guys seem like pros to me. Like I recorded the entire Fisto and Greivous fight. But I don't know what to do after that. Should I just record each saber sound seperately, is that how you guys do it? My hands just isn't that quick enough. x.x

I'm not quite sure what your question is.  Did you record all the sounds as one big file?  If so, you'll need to edit it down into each separate sound.  You can trim the audio clips in Audacity.  Longer sounds (lockup, etc.) can be around 4 seconds long.  Things like clashes should be shorter.

If you haven't played around with the Obsidian Launcher yet, you might want to download one of the free fonts and play with that first.  It'll give you a better idea of what you can do for a sound font.  The spaces for sound files are:

Boot (only heard when replacing batteries or uploading the font)
Power On
Power Off
Idle (the "hum", you want a longer clip)
Motion (swing noises; you can have several, short)
Impact (clash noises; you can have several, short)
Lockup (for flash on clash; should be a longer clip, can have more than one)


I'm no expert either, but I just played around with Audacity until I figured out how to get the sound I wanted.  I loaded it up on the saber, tried it out, and discovered I hated all the motion sounds.  So the Thunderfont is on hold until I can get some better sound clips to play with.  You can't get better until you practice, right?  Good luck!

You can work with your one big file easily. You'll just have to do the following:

1) listen for a sound you like.
2) try to mark the full sound by drawing your cursor
3) you can edit the beginning and end of your selected sound easily by drawing the edges in the right direction
4) All "effect"-changes you do now will only apply to your selected bit
5) After having modified your clip to your liking, you can use the "export selection"-button, and you will have a clip of only your desired sound extract.
6) listen on and proceed as shown above and you should be fine!

It'll still be somewhat difficult because Fisto moved so fast in that scene. x.x I kinda get it though but stopping at the right moment will also be hard. Do I save each section I stop at?

Believe me, it's not that hard.

You start your big wav in Audacity and look at the waves. If you hear "your" sound, you stop, go in with your curser and mark the area roughly. When you now press play, you'll hear just that extract you have marked. Now you can fine-tune it by pulling the left and right marker (and listening in again) until you have isolated your sound to your liking. Than you put on your effects (and they will only apply on your short extract) and press "Export selection". Than you have saved your sound and can go on in your big file until you hear the next important sound.

And of course: zooming in makes things much easier!

I got the "R-6 I'm at the platform! Where are you?" part for the boot sound. Now to capture his lightsaber sounds. I kinda get it more now. Should be done today sometime hopefully.

Got the ignition but it starts at like the 13 minute line. How can I shorten that without losing the saber ignition? Same with the other sounds? Getting closer. :D

Do as I wrote above and you will be fine, regardless of where you are in the big file (and you don't ever have to cut something!). Marking the area(left-click, hold, pull, let loose) is the key!

Working on the impacts at the moment. Getting more easier by the second. xp When I upload the big finished file I just hope I can make things louder for you guys.

Mind: the big file's just a tool. The important things are the small extracted files, that will find their way to us. And if you don't want to edit them all again at the end one by one, you should raise the volume (green) when you start working in the big file right at the beginning!

I'm actually done with the impacts. Just gotta get atleast 4 swings then a lock up and done. :D Thanks for the extra help. I hope the first font works out okay. xp I'm saving each file individually, then going to try and figure out how to remove the music and voices for the impacts, swings, and lock ups, I got the power on and off okay though. Bith from Kit Fisto by the way. Should be done here in the next few hours as more help is provided. Though I noticed your Audacity was in German and I don't understand it anymore. xp I took classes but they blew. LIke I felt like I didn't really learn anything.

There might only be 4 swing sounds. Sorry guys. Hope 4 swings and 6 clashes will be okay.

Finally got all the sounds but I can't seem to cancel out any unwanted noise or vocals. I finally got a good lock up but its when Fisto is talking. "You might have been a proud warrior once but you are now just a pawn in Dooku's game!". I want that out but I'm not figuring out how to do it. x.x Its almost done by the way. :D

You're welcome. I have no experience in removing music and voices; just found sounds without, so I can't help there. I have a guess, though: the program say you'll need a stereo file where the voices are all on one side. Then the program can remove them (I guess). That would mean again: right at the beginning before turning your file mono.

So make voices/music on right side?

Still no luck in removing the music/voices. xp Wish Lord Vane or someone would chip in.

Only thing I need to know is how to get rid of unwanted sound, music, and voices, then I'm set to go. Then I will re upload everything and do a bit more tweeking.

Never mind I got a different lock up scene. Its when they kind of slide sabers together and it makes that cool different lock up sound. So I'm good to go. =] Just wish I could get more swings.

And I'm done. I got a boot, power on, off, 6 impacts, 4 swings, and a lock up. Just gotta figure out how to remove the extra sounds and make it more clearer. So basically I got a full font for you guys just having troubles with that one thing. 2 of the swings are kinda slow because I thought they sounded cool, its when Fisto got that blue lightsaber and it did the 2 slow swings. Something different.

@Sabre or anyone else if you feel like helping me getting the rest of my font done go ahead. I'm going to take a break and watch the new Resident Evil movie. Let me know if anyone comes up with anything.

Once a freaking again re-do everything. Every time I go to upload a file it plays the whole scene. I had everything perfect too. Only thing I got fixed was the boot sound perfectly. Now it'll take even longer.

Woohoo I got it! :D But I forgot the hum. xp The font isn't as loud as I thought it would be. Got any ideas on how to fix that one? Just the loudness? I want this one thing fixed before posting and sending it off to errock to demo and loading the download link.

Cool saber hum with Fisto's voice in it yes or no? Its when he says, "That power will only consume you!". Though I'd like to get the hum louder but with the voice still in if possible. Still trying to figure out how to get unwanted noises and voice out though. But other than tha I got it all done.

Why not both? I mean, you might as well. It would give more options for those who might use it.

I could do both I guess. For the first one I just gotta figure out how to remove the voice and make the hum file longer.

And I'm still trying to figure the voice thing out to where its just noise. I had it lastnight but then forgot how to do it. Plus I need to figure out how to make the hum loop longer.

Any furthur help would be greatly appreciated from the pros on here. xp I want to make all the sounds louder like power on, off, swing, impact. So its not 100 percent ready yet. Plus to remove Fisto's voice for the hum I got.

Hey errock, can I just shoot you an email with all my Fisto files? I'm just having no luck at all. I just need them tweeked and fixed up is all. I tested them out on my saber but no go. Sounded way week and kept blipping.

Can you just duplicate the hum to double its length?

Okay. PM me your email and I'll send you the original sounds I got. They are just too muddy for me to work with. But I did do a test run and they seem to work fine on Obsidian. But I just want some more tweeking to the sounds I got and removing voices and music. Though for an extra lock up keep Kit Fisto's voice in. I got school though so go ahead and PM me your email then I'll send you the files later. I only got 3 good swings though so if you want to add more go ahead.

errock is helping me out with my Fisto font. Hes a cool dude. =] So it should be ready here shortly for you guys since hes super quick but good at making fonts. I told him what I wanted in the font and he said no problem. So thank him big time when its done and ready. xp Maybe some of these guys will take requests for us for awhile?

I'm loading it on the saber to review it, and then I'll throw the link up! Almost there!

Edit: The upload of the font to the saber was "interrupted" and now I can't see to get things going. I emailed Emory and will get back to you. Sorry guys! I want to test the font before letting it go public.

Like asked before. If the files all work okay go ahead and put the download link up for everyone unless it hasn't been tested yet?

Font is done I think. Just needs to get uploaded for you guys. =] Just don't upload Swing2 to the board, we think its messed up. So when you download the sound font just delete Swing2 and ignore it.

And it works! errock is awesome. Sounds just like Kit Fisto. Font should be up for you guys here soon and some more might be made when I get more ideas.

Really is a nice font. I'm getting used to the power on/hum. I think its just the way Fisto's certain sounds were. Does anyone else think the timing is off or is it perfect? I'll have to do a video later and I hope your Bellicose gets fixed@errock. Perhaps you uploaded it too soon with that one goofy swing2? I got rid of that myself then the font worked perfectly for me. Thanks for the new font by the way. =] We need more Jedi sounds though since like I said the Sith seem to be taking over again. xp Anyone else with me on this one?

Not bad at all...I actually kind of like this font quite a lot.
