im thinking about creating a costume for an exiled jedi, or one that has fallen out of the orders strict rules. the costume should represent a jedi that is not the standard brown robes and tunic. this jedi sticks primarily to the outer rims. so im thinking that the inspiration from the costume comes from the cross of bounty hunter + cowboy + smuggler. i not opposed to having this costume have a robe or a poncho, but no tunic. what do you guys think?

here is the hat and i was thinking about adding a chinstrap to it, as well as maybe adding some decoration to the strap.

haven't figure out how the rest of the costume would look like.

I am curious to see how this outfit turns out...the cowboy hat will be fairly different.

i just think i found my coat. i have one of these lying around somewhere from my World War 2 re enacting days. only problem is that it is wool and will be hot an itchy. also its od green, so i may have to find the dimensions and make it myself in a metallic grey color.

This pattern is retired but is a great one...that is a very good price...of course wait til the last minute to bid  :)

I've got a black leather duster I'm seriously trying to work into a costume... but I don't want to be Sith.  I'm thinking some sort of pilot/smuggler that's maybe Force sensitive without being under the discipline of the Jedi Order... heck maybe as good with a "blade" as he is with a blaster...  I'll try different combos and see what look I can come up with.  I think I'm working on modifying my existing renfest garb, which is all black except of a hunter green tabard I wear with it.

May just have to get a robe eventually.

Seriously.  This was honestly my first thought after reading your description.  That said, since you probably don't want to rip off one show to costume another, I'd probably stick with something very very practical.  

Also, if he's a banished Jedi would he have had his lightsaber taken away?  Or maybe also use a blaster?  

Anyway, I love the idea!  I've never really liked the super strict Jedi methods, so I'd probably end up in the same position as your character were I in the SW universe.  Point. (I'm assuming from your avatar you want Dark Side points?)

im thinking that this character would be in the old republic universe. (before empire returned) after a 15 long  years in service to the jedi way, this individual grew tired of unending politics and diplomatic missions that consumed the jedi order. this individuals personality and behavior was geared more to direct confrontation then subterfuge. Because of this direct nature the jedi order decided that he would be perfect for outer rim assignments where diplomacy often didn't exist, and arguments were settled with blasters (basically exiled). this is where he spent the next 3 years of his life traveling around the outer rims quelling territorial disputes, and winning the affection of many. but when the empire returned and attack the jedi temple on coruscant, the jedi order had no choice but to recall him for action.

hope this clears everything up. whenever i create an outfit for a specific series i like to create a backstory for them. this makes it extremely easy to get into role playing.

True it would have been taken away, but before becoming a padawon, younglings must first learn how to make a saber so whose to say he didn't make a new one after being banished, just my thoughts on it but it would probably be orange or yellow.

Sounds interesting.  Maybe look up some pictures of Cad Bane to help keep the Western-in-Star-Wars look.  :)

just watched hamlet in class and saw something i might add to the jacket of my outfit, plated shoulder armor. might have to sand paper the darn thing to take away the shine :P. Kind of stupid to be mister shiny in the deserts of tatooine, where tuskan raiders or robbers could see me coming a mile away. then ambush me for my gear and supplies.

That is great!  Course, as a Sith I'd have to paint it, but it would work great.  And it'd probably qualify under the armor requirements for dueling.

I was going for a bounty hunter type look as well. Have some ideas but nothing concrete yet. I would also like to see what you come up with.

If you took this picture to any seamstress or tailor and have one made...I would think $75-80 in materials at the most and $150-200 for labor...so $225-280?

Could be more or less, depending on their schedule and interest level...contact the costumers on the forum (like AEthereal Designs or Twin Roses) and see what they think  :D

check larp stores for cheaper replica shoulder armour mate. larp inn and primal forge work well.

I'm going for a similar costume idea, and I think I'm just going to do a trench coat/duster that isn't quite as long. it looks really good in some of the pictures i've seen.

Or if you are crafty and want a cheap alt and it'll work for the look you want, you could always try making foam armor

The only sources of Lightsabercrystals are under the guardianship of the highest security measure the Jedi can muster.
Pirates and others try to get to the crystals since countless decades for profit.
There is not much that is worth so much on the black marked than a kaydrin crystal. (just saw the clone wars episoder about it ^^)

When he was able to obtain a lightsaber than there is a very adventurous story behind that. Or he made enough money to buy one on the black market and that is nothing they have in stock every day so the opportunity as well as the money must have been given.

Hmm another thought. How about the other force user groups? The Jensaarai for example (one of my faves) are able to construct lightsabers somehow. They take more pride in their armors yet this would be a group where your charackter might have been able to obtain such a seldom weapon.
