Title: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: eerockk on February 21, 2013, 03:47:04 PM Hi all,
It was an amazingly frustrating day with how busy things have been at work, but I'm happy to report that the day ended on a very high note for me. My Overlord had arrived, and most of the day's frustrations simply melted away as I held it for the first time. I'll drop a text review here and now, but I'll work out a video review later this eve and post it below when it's ready. My camera's batteries are charging too for the glorious production of the saberpr0n that is to come as well, (for now, it's the iPhone to the rescue). The hilt: (http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff407/EeRocKK/IMG_0087_zpscbc0a845.jpg) There was not one flaw on this hilt - none. The anodization is amazing and the details are very subtle yet the saber is very striking. My first impressions were 'OMG, this looks like a true lightsaber!' (as if my Bellicose and Prophecy didn't :P). It's not as heavy as the Bellicose, but it's heavier than the Prophecy. It's comfortable to hold and it seems quite balance with the HG blade I ordered with it. Fire it up! (http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff407/EeRocKK/IMG_0088_zpscd8645d1.jpg) After swapping the batteries for fresh ones I had waiting, and removing the pommel in favor of the Bellicose's short groove one (I think I found a new home for my saber's original pommel), I struck the blade. My first impression of BR is a very good one. Even with the HG blade on it, the red is incredibly intense, and after staring at the blade for a few minutes, the blade starting turning orange. I then realized that it wasn't the LED causing the orange; my eyes had adjusted and relaxed to the assault of red that it was receiving. I know this cause my off-white walls were a strange shade of blue - eye adjustment! If your eyes have to internally adjust for colors, well, then you know that the saber is pretty bright! The hilt and blade: (http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff407/EeRocKK/IMG_0089_zps15b25dc7.jpg) I got a blue AV switch for the saber despite getting the red MLS. Now I have one of each color on my three sabers. The blue works very well for me. In the future, either a GB or AB MLS module will be acquired, so it will match in the future, but blue and red really look great together, and I'm very happy with the outcome of this 'experiment'. The MLS unit removed properly and my Bellicose's CG fit perfectly. I have to say, I love the Overlord in CG as well, and it was much easier than I thought it would be to swap them out. Cool! The Obsidian 3 is my next order of business. The board is every bit as loud as the version 2 Obsidian, and the new software is amazing - with the Bellicose pommel. The low-profile Overlord pommel looks great on the saber, but there is no resonance chamber because it's so flat, so be warned that the Overlord's pommel isn't going to give you as full a sound as the other available pommels from Ultrasabers. I had no issues nor hiccups when loading a sound font on the saber, and the new interface is really awesome. There's also an option to have the launcher run a cyclical redundancy check on the board's memory, so one can always ensure that the sounds are loaded up, and that nothing will be out of the ordinary when you spark the saber. I also liked how you can conect and disconnect the saber to the interface at the click of the button. No more closing and re-opening the launcher like it was in v2. Version 2 was installed right after the version 3, and both work flawlessly side by side. The new Obsidian board is 100% FLIPPIN AMAZING! Nuff said there... my future custom sound font reviews are really going to benefit from this upgrade! Overall, Ultrasabers has, for the third time, surpassed my expectations with the quality of this saber, and of course the turnaround time was stellar as usual - I had my saber within a week of ordering it. Alex and Emory do it again, and my love of Ultrasabers and their products has only been edified with the service and quality I've received for the third time. Outstanding, gents! These sabers are just plain mind-blowingly awesome. As in holy $#!t awesome. Thank you again! Video review to come, folks, as well as some more photos and side-by-side shots with my other sabers. Thanks for reading. Title: Re: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Ricos on February 21, 2013, 04:40:11 PM Congrats on your new Overlord!! Lightside point to you sir!!
Will be looking forward to that video review! Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Saint on February 22, 2013, 12:16:02 AM Congrats E! I just wish you could relay the tiniest bit of excitement in your textual preview. ;) The Belli-Pom-SG looks stylin' on your new baby. Looking forward to your vid-rev. Cheers!
PS Don't forget to update your sig from "ordered". ;D Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Sky Dragon c5 on February 22, 2013, 06:42:35 AM Glad you confirmed my doubt about the pommel. The Bellicose looks great on it.
My overlord will have a Dark War Glaive pommel on it. I still cant decide on my next saber XD I want an overlord but also a Shock LE Title: Re: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Ricos on February 22, 2013, 11:30:57 AM My Overlord has the Archon/Dark Arbiter pommel on it. Not for sound reasons though was more for balance. I have no around yet. Waiting for my taxes! lol
Great video review long winded and very descriptive as usual. lol Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: eerockk on February 22, 2013, 01:24:46 PM Thanks guys! Here's the video review, though I'm now wondering if I should have posted this in the review section since the thread became a review.

Great review, never was the biggest fan of the Overlord, but everyone needs at least one Sith saber, right? Here is your point Mr. Rock. Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: eerockk on February 22, 2013, 06:18:38 PM Well if need be a Mod will move it for you. Great review, never was the biggest fan of the Overlord, but everyone needs at least one Sith saber, right? Here is your point Mr. Rock. Thanks Kham! As usual, no photo of the Overlord that I've seen shows it for what it truly is. That's the beauty of Ultrasabers: like the LED colors themselves, the true glory cannot be captured on camera. I hope I don't start getting DS points for this! ::) Thanks again, man! ;D Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Zren Tobas on February 23, 2013, 08:38:57 AM Nice nice. I want a Sith Obsidian saber so bad. xp How does the Heavy Grade blade look in person? And it sounds like Obsidian 3 is louder than Obsidian 2.
Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Sky Dragon c5 on February 23, 2013, 08:46:06 AM I can say obsidian 2 and 3 are identical for sound.
Only big dif is the launcher and 2 button presses for the first lockup. Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: eerockk on February 23, 2013, 01:20:40 PM Thanks Zren and Sky Dragon c5!
The heavy grade has mixed results. It rules with BR, looks pretty good in CG, but doesn't do too well with VA - UEHG works with that. As I mentioned in my OL review video, it's the pommel's size and shape that determines how loud any saber is. Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Vex on February 23, 2013, 02:15:46 PM Nice!

Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: jedicri on February 24, 2013, 04:58:55 AM You look like one happy dude! Took me long enough to find your review.
Nice overview with the blades and pommel. I agree with you regarding the pommel. On my Consular's stock pommel, the sound did not resonate as deeply as did the archon pommel --- huge difference. Happy you got your sith saber man! Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Holt on February 26, 2013, 01:07:39 PM I allways enjoy your videos eerockk! looking forward seeing your sith font reviews on this saber. you could srart with doing the vader again ;)
Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: eerockk on February 26, 2013, 01:50:38 PM Thanks everyone! Holt: the Vader font just happens to be loaded on right now. The red blade really makes the font, and I'm itching to try Darth Sabre's Sidious font. I was considering the Reaper, but the Overlord has been on my short list for a while. I'm so happy with this saber! (A lot of forum posts certainly helped with my choice - thanks again everyone for the advice!)
Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Holt on February 26, 2013, 01:57:33 PM cool! I hope I'll be seeing it. :D

I hope I'll be seeing it. :D When I get it done, I'll post it at the bottom of thread that already exists. Mind the bump! :) Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Holt on February 26, 2013, 02:18:17 PM will do 8)
Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Master Bluespike74 on February 26, 2013, 04:54:49 PM The Overlord ranks as one of the most prized sabers anyone on the US forum could own. The base model is very simply but when you begin changing pommels and emitters, you find that the Overlord can truly become anything you want it to be. It is incredibly solid, have nice hold points, allows for endless customization, is awesome as the two handed beast that it is. I have tried as many colors as I can in it and it looks just perfect. I am glad that you have joined the long list of Overlord owners and with you sound font reviews, that saber is simply going to grow in popularity.
Looking forward to seeing it in more of your vids. Blue Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: eerockk on February 26, 2013, 05:22:03 PM Looking forward to seeing it in more of your vids. Blue Thanks Blue! I'm eventually getting a GB/AS MLS unit for it too, so you'll have an adjunct member of the Blue Army soon enough. It would be an honor, truth be told! Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Holt on February 26, 2013, 08:11:22 PM I think why the overlord is so popular i because of the classic emitter and grip grooves on a black hilt. kinda Luke v2'ish.
I know when I get another hilt it probbaly would be the overlord. I know when I get another hilt it probbaly would be the overlord. You won't be disappointed, Holt! I find the hilt is slightly easier to hold on to than my Bellicose (my go-to and training saber), so that is a bonus for the non-ham-hock-handed among us. It's a very comfy saber to hold, and the emitter also reminds me of Luke's v2, along with the machined grooves (which are the reason the saber is so comfy to grab). The fact that I can Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Holt on February 26, 2013, 09:02:21 PM Looking forward seeing one in person then! :) I'm in the middle of a CF starkiller build and right after that I'm getting an ultrasaber again.
The starkiller will be using some Ultrasaber parts so I will do a small review here to. Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: eerockk on February 26, 2013, 09:09:26 PM The starkiller will be using some Ultrasaber parts so I will do a small review here to. My love of Starkiller's hilt was a strong determining factor for why I chose the Bellicose. It is I who can't wait for your review/photos. There's nothing better than the promise of good saberpr0n on the way. ;D Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Holt on February 26, 2013, 09:16:38 PM I know your feeling! I too love starkillers saber but not the ''in game'' open chamber saber. nope, I love the trailer ''promo'' saber. (bellicose source)
I will be using MHS parts. ( yeah it can be done :) ) Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Saint on February 26, 2013, 09:47:29 PM ... The fact that I can LOL. E, you'll be happy to hear my meds have finally taken hold. I haven't changed saber configs in 5 (!) days now. :-[ :P Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Darth Sabre on February 27, 2013, 04:10:47 AM Hey eerockk,
welcome to the Overlord club, my friend. As you have already stated all the things I love about my weapon, at least have a point for good taste and BR!!! Ah, the Dark Side is getting stronger in you ... as I have foreseen it! :) Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Holt on February 27, 2013, 07:54:59 PM I hope to be seeing that overlord with that vader font soon. Looking forward to it ;D
Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: eerockk on February 27, 2013, 11:43:43 PM There's going to be a slight delay with the reviews as I investigate a small issue I'm having right now. Hopefully, I'll be ale to clear it up quickly. Sorry all, I haven't forgotten!

Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: eerockk on March 06, 2013, 12:27:33 AM How's that issue coming along E? Still coming, man. Shipping costs weren't in the budget this time around, so I've just been swapping out the MLS to satisfy my red blade needs. I suppose the Force wants me to avoid Jar'Kai, and keep on my Shii-Cho for my Initiate trials coming up soon. :) Later in the month, or in early April at the latest, I'll have another surprise in store as well! Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Master Nero Attoru on March 06, 2013, 12:32:04 AM Man... I'm away from the forum for a while and suddenly I realize eerockk has gotten a Sith saber! I have to say man, I'm loving your taste in hilts - Bellicose, Prophecy, and now this. If I were to go for a pure Sith weapon, the Overlord would be it (and just may be one day).
Very nice! Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: Holt on March 06, 2013, 12:50:38 AM awesome! Looking forward to it.
I'll probably have my saber finished in april as well. Title: Re: My New House 'Sith Saber' - The Overlord in BR/FO Post by: eerockk on March 06, 2013, 03:56:03 PM Man... If I were to go for a pure Sith weapon, the Overlord would be it (and just may be one day). Very nice! Thanks Master! As my other two sabers have, the Overlord exceeded my expectations. The control it seems to have with a midgrade blade is amazing. I'm considering using it for any Makashi training I work on just because of that. It does feel different than a Bellicose with a heavy grade blade on, and [spoiler alert] maybe a Manticore emitter will restore the balance point to something I'm more familiar with. The milled grip under the emitter is perfect for one handed use though, and feels solid yet light at the same time. It looks awesome in CG as well, and soon, GB, EG, and SY. ;) [ooops, spoiler 2] |
