It wasn't designed for sound resonance, or internal board space, and didn't have the internal machining done that a sound-capable hilt would normally have (which also increases the price of sound-capable hilts). When making a saber with sound, we like to design it from the ground up for that purpose so it sounds really good. Hope that answered the question.
