Title: Liberator V3 review Post by: Darth Gorous on April 28, 2013, 08:49:35 PM Hey guys
I got my ultrasabers more than a month ago and I now felt the need to do a review. I know a lot of you guys have done this, but it is nice to be able to compare experiences. :) My review is based on the Liberator V3 and I own two of these sabers. My review is put into different sections and I will rate each section and give an overall rating, I will be using the numbers 1-5, 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest. Blade: We(a friend and I) chose to order the UE Heavy Grade blades, since we really wanted to use these sabers for their primary purpose heavy duelling. The foil in the blades does crumple quite a bit which did dim the light through the blades. This happened to all our blades. But after removing the foil the light looks really good. The blades do get quite scratched from duelling, but I did not expect anything ells and I do not see this as a problem since you cannot see the scratches when the light is on. I am very impressed with the durability of these blades, they are flexible and still very strong when we duel we strike with full force! Rating: Heavy Grade: 5(BIG TIME), UltraEdge: 2(If the blade is bought for display, UE does look quite good but not for heavy duelling.) Hilt: Aesthetics The hilt is very beautiful and does look very elegant to the writer, I find the few but great details very nice and gives the hilt a very stylish look. The windowed emitter is the icing on the cake it looks great, especially on the standard model, because the bare aluminum reflects the light very nicely. Rating: 5 Comfort I have tried 7-8 different ultrasabers, and I have to say that this is by far my favorite, it is very comfortable and the lack of knick knacks provides you with a very comfortable grip. If you, like me are a big guy with paws, then this hilt will be very nice for both one handed combat as well as single handed. Rating: 5 Durability I have found these hilts to be very easy to break, unlike the testimonies from most of the users on this forum: But due to the material being aluminum which is a very soft metal they do bend and dent quite heavily from a drop. I for one like battle damage on my hilt and do not really care about this, but I have learned that the pommel and the threading on this suffers quite a bit it tends to luck up, so you cannot screw the pommel back on/off. Furthermore the retention screw and the pommel have a tendency to rattle lose during dueling, a bit annoying, but not a dealbreaker. Rating: 2.5 Electronics So far I have nothing to say about the main electronics, I have experienced that the sabers sometimes die from a drop, but this is due to the batteries rattling lose. This is the only negative thing about the electronics, it would be nice if the battery pack had a more snug fit in the hilt, and both of my battery packs have cracked due to this otherwise quite good, the LED is very bright and looks really good. Rating: 3.5 Overall rating: 3 This review is based on my experiences with my sabers and what I have found to be positive and negative. I hope that other potential buyers find this helpful. I am aware that other people might disagree with me at some points, but we all use our sabers in different ways and have different opinions, which makes for a great point of comparison. :) Cheers. Title: Re: Liberator V3 review Post by: Kenstah on May 11, 2013, 04:03:14 AM When you say the battery packs cracked are you talking the new and improved and ultra high tech lithium ion packs? I have cracked two previous battery packs, the quad AAA holders with integrated speaker. These are the old standard type that I am still able to reorder when they break. I am receiving a brand new saber tomorrow (thanks Ultra Sabers!) that will have the lithium ion pack and am now scared that moderate dueling will crack it the same way. Just curious. Maybe putting some extra foam around the pack in your saber will keep it from rattling and cracking. Most of the reviews seem to mention there is no rattling going on with very solid builds.
K ;-) Title: Re: Liberator V3 review Post by: loosekannonn on May 11, 2013, 07:55:29 PM you may want to try wrapping thin foam padding around your battery pack in an effort to cousin them eliminating the
mechanical shock when receiving a blow and cutting the sound of rattling. Title: Re: Liberator V3 review Post by: Darth Gorous on May 12, 2013, 09:10:53 PM Thanks JediStavland and Skydragon. I am not quite sure whether I will do a video review, but I might.
From day one I noticed the rattling battery pack, so I use foam to prevent this. But it still broke in two after I dropped it a couple of times. I had a sponge-like foam crammed in next to the pack - then foam meant for music studios(isolation) between the pack and the pommel. So I have to get a hold of a new battery pack, to get my LED to light up again. But I think I will order a new one from Germany, to get something a bit more solid. Thanks for your comments. :) Title: Re: Liberator V3 review Post by: Zren Tobas on May 13, 2013, 09:16:24 AM Hence why I love the Liberator, Dominix V2, and Aeon V3. There isn't any extras to get in the way. I do have a Bellicose though for Obsidian sound and its pretty cool. But for my main dueling saber its either my Aeon V3, Dominix V2, or Liberator. I even have a blue anodized Liberator from a Grab Bag like 2 years ago. Its cool too. :D Its all blue so Guardian Blue blade. My brother has the red anodized Liberator also in Guardian Blue. We wanted a brother saber theme thing.
