Title: Grab bag review
Post by: Jedi_Nasther on May 02, 2013, 05:37:57 PM
I purchased my first Ultra sabers earlier last month.  I ordered two completely random grab bags, one with a standard mid-grade blade and another with a ultra edge mid-grade.  I received them about two weeks ago and I am now just getting around to sharing my sabers.

The first saber I pulled from the box was a dark standard issue v3 with the vertical grooves.  This one came with the Ultra edge and it is in Arctic Blue.

The grooves are really nice but a bit on the sharp side.  It takes a little getting used to it but overall it provides a really good grip.  I would imagine the non-vertical groove version is more difficult to hold on to.

I personally love the contrast of the arctic blue against the black anodizing of the hilt.  Also the blue looks amazing in the Ultra edge blade.

Overall I really like the dark standard issue v3 but I would say that because of the sharpness of the grooves it would be better to use gloves if using it for extended dueling or spinning.  The only other issue I have with it is the fact that the blade does not go very far into the hilt and to me it feel slightly wobbly, perhaps a shorter blade would work better.

The second grab bag saber I received was a v3 Dominix in Sun Rider's Destiny with a standard mid grade blade.

This saber just feels solid.  The blade recesses really far into the hilt, about 3-inches and just gives it an arm extension feeling while swinging it.  I am rather on the short side so the way the blade recesses into the hilt makes it slightly shorter and the perfect length for someone who isn't quite 6 foot tall.  The overall construction of this thing reminds me of the most rugged version of any product you can buy.

Once again I really enjoy the way the color of the blade contrasts with the darkness of the hilt.  Pictures do not do the color justice and it seems that SRD is very difficult to accurately capture on camera.  The mid grade blade in my opinion looks much better with this color than the Ultra edge does (I have switched them multiple times and agonized over this opinion).  With the Ultra edge the color just fades too much for my taste at the tip but with the mid grade it's completely vibrant all the way up.

This saber just to me screams duel.  Its construction is solid and I just feel its durability while holding it.  The only thing that needs to be changed for me is it's a little slick and it slips a little in the hand.  I think I will fix that by adding o-rings to the grooves.

Personally I love my Ultra Sabers and I will definitely be buying more in the future.

Nice sabers dude. =] A little something for May The 4th for today. I'm going to be doing some pictures with my brother later.
