Title: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Coruptous on July 25, 2013, 02:51:39 AM This is a unique saber right now. Because it's a prototype it's not finished so I'm showing some options Im considering.
This saber was offered to me when I placed an order for the crimson reaper and the order went through even though it was out of stock. This is the saber as I received it. (http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/kk396/iceberg909/ccr002.png) (http://s309.photobucket.com/user/iceberg909/media/ccr002.png.html) (http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/kk396/iceberg909/ccr001.png) (http://s309.photobucket.com/user/iceberg909/media/ccr001.png.html) As you can see the curved body is rough mill. So I decided I would do a wrap on it, like the handle of many swords. I am still experimenting with options but this is my first go, it's a basic spiral wrap. (http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/kk396/iceberg909/ccr003.png) (http://s309.photobucket.com/user/iceberg909/media/ccr003.png.html) (http://i309.photobucket.com/albums/kk396/iceberg909/ccr004.png) (http://s309.photobucket.com/user/iceberg909/media/ccr004.png.html) I dont like the way the spiral wrap looks or stays together. My next wrap will probably be a long turks head knot if I can actually figure out the knot. Everyone on YouTube make it look easy but trust me it's anything but. When I have something I like I will move from paracord to leather. I have black and read leather that I will use on the final. Of course I'd like to hear any ideas you all may have. Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: remdog on July 25, 2013, 03:55:19 AM I wanna see it with some claws
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: srams on July 25, 2013, 04:04:36 AM I had heard of this in another members post where he had the same situation happen but he chose a different option. I was wondering if we would ever get to see this.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Adak Cyrnoc on July 25, 2013, 04:26:47 AM SWEET!!! I hope they'll sell just the curved piece. I'll buy a few of them.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: spidie2000 on July 25, 2013, 06:23:34 AM This is going to make a lot of people's day
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Khaalis on July 25, 2013, 08:09:27 AM Aye. This would make a lot of people very happy. I hope that they move forward with the idea in more than just the reaper body piece. If they could extend the idea to be an MHS coupler or extender, this would create all kinds of possibilities.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Zren Tobas on July 25, 2013, 08:56:45 AM I'm in! I'm totally getting a curved saber if this starts selling regularly. =] Or has it already? Now I'm even more excited for Ultra Sabers. =] I knew they would find a way for curved hilts.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Darth_Phobius47 on July 25, 2013, 12:09:56 PM They actually sent it to you like this?! Wow I think I know what the next saber they'll put out will be.....maybe

Definitely a prototype, I guess, but it does look like the idea has been thought about at length. Thanks for sharing, and kudos on a unique lightsabre!
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Coruptous on July 26, 2013, 12:52:12 AM Yea I was very happy to get it. I'm also happy to be able to share it with you all.
As far as pics with the claws, I may wait to see if I can get my mod to the claws done first. I want to grind them down into blades instead of jus claws. Finding time is rough because I'm working a lot to have extra money at GenCon in 3 weeks so time is short. If you have never used a curved saber before, let me tell you it's amazing. Unlike a normal blade it feels more like an extension to your arm. There are certain moves you can't do, but there are others you get more speed and power from. The other advantage is that with the location of the Obsidina board, it's motion is slightly exaggerated so you can fine tune it a lot. Hopefully I get some time this weekend to work on my turks head knot to see how that looks on the handle. Now I just need to find someone to take my designs of a sith mask and sculpt it, make a positive so I can vacume press some mask. :) I'm building a full character up. Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Zren Tobas on July 26, 2013, 01:51:05 AM This makes me want to order a Crimson Reaper even more. But I'm wanting an AB saber next. Lol. Or if they are doing it on all sabers for a short run thing or something. Looks awesome though. Wouldn't mind a curved Bane.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Liselyn on July 26, 2013, 02:09:44 AM Phwoar that is stunning! I really hope they do a release version of this - I'd love to see the final product

Check out the Rebel Legion (http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/index.php) or the 501st (http://www.501st.com/forum/). These are two of the leading places to go for all things costuming. One for the rebel side and one for the Imperial side. I'm on the Rebel Legion boards and there are ALL kinds of help there. I have seen people on their who either tutorial mask making and even those that sell custom masks. I'm not on the 501st but I have heard that their community is just as good. After getting into reading through RL, I found the vendor I want to make my outfit as well as so much other help on costuming. Definitely worth the trip over their. Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Zren Tobas on July 27, 2013, 04:37:39 AM I think its better to do your own costume. Mask and everything. Someone on the Facebook page did a complete mask and turned out awesome.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: jedicri on July 27, 2013, 05:11:54 AM The curved section is way off --- it's too centered; but then again, it is a prototype. It should be closer to the pommel.

It should be closer to the pommel. I very much disagree. I wish I could let you use it so you could feel how it handles the way it is. Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: jedicri on July 27, 2013, 03:55:13 PM I very much disagree. I wish I could let you use it so you could feel how it handles the way it is. Ergonomically speaking, I guess you are in the best position to say how it handles. But design-wise, I think it still needs to be refined such as where the curve is to be situated. IMHO, the curve is too abrupt. But design-wise, I think it still needs to be refined such as where the curve is to be situated. IMHO, the curve is too abrupt. I kind of agree with this. It's not really curved. More so, it looks like a bent saber to me. However, it is a prototype it seems, so I give them props to attempting. Process is progress. Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Manroon on July 30, 2013, 06:03:24 AM As I understand it, even the original Dooku curved hilt is really just a couple of angles that give the impression of a curve. Much like this. I for one... would like to get one. Reaper... cool but not my favorite, but if it's the only way to get a curved saber, I'll more than likely buy one! It's just too cool to know US is actually making this. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the first of it's kind? Has there ever been a non MR or Hasbarf curved saber that was mass produced? I don't believe so, or the demand for one wouldn't be anywhere near as vocal as it's been for so long. lol
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Zren Tobas on July 30, 2013, 06:58:42 AM Lol Manroon. Hasbarf. That's new. :P This will be one of the best sabers though once its released and will go QUICK first sales. I can already see it.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Rina Ascura on July 30, 2013, 01:38:17 PM Wow!
Finally! A prototype curved hilt! Everything we said, wrote, asked, demanded about curved hilts was not in vain. This is a definite sign of the new, v3 Dark Apprentice coming soon! Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Coruptous on July 30, 2013, 04:39:05 PM Well for anyone that actually wants to get your hands on it and see how it feels, I will have it at GenCon Indy, and most likely at ComiCon Indy. Im taking a dermal to it to smooth out the curved part that is unfinished then I will polish it. I don't have the chems and equipment to anodize it which is why Im working on finding a leather wrap technique that I like.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Manroon on July 30, 2013, 09:02:50 PM There was a tutorial around here someplace to use beeswax and leather to get a nice tight heat shrunk leather grip. You might see if you can scrounge that technique up someplace. :)
And thanks Zren, I'm rather fond of that joke. ;) Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Rina Ascura on July 31, 2013, 03:50:32 PM I hope they'll try this process on other sabers. Curved Dominix = a pretty good approximation of Ventress' sabers. Curved something with a Scorpion emitter/claw = Dooku.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Adak Cyrnoc on July 31, 2013, 09:33:00 PM I'd like to see it without the AV switch on the curved part. Having it there just
makes it so you cant put that part on a different saber. Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Coruptous on August 01, 2013, 06:32:24 PM I'd like to see it without the AV switch on the curved part. Having it there just makes it so you cant put that part on a different saber. Not entirely true. You can locate your switch anywhere you want but you will have to cover the hole somehow. Depending on how creative you are it could take away from the appearance this is true. I have worked GENCON many times...back when it was still the mighty giant in Milwaukee! I could sculpt the mask for you. Let me see the design you had in mind. Did you need someone to also vacuum form the mask or just make the positive mold? :) Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: thiefone on August 10, 2013, 08:10:03 PM Looks pretty good. Glad to see some concepts for a curved hilt design.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: Kal-El on February 26, 2014, 07:52:42 PM All about the modular design.
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: presstilton on June 19, 2014, 11:21:18 PM beautiful i have always been a fan of count dooku's curved saber (not sure if i spelled his name right) and have want a curved hilt myself but im very particular about the curve. dooku's looks perfect to me so i have scoured saber sights looking for a good curve and none are to be found but this is superb even though it is an angle and and actually curve i would pick this over the other sights curves any day. it looks a little long so i was wondering if thats my imagination or if it really is long and how easy is it to handle in spinning and dueling?
Title: Re: Curved Crimson Reaper Post by: OISIN NOM on July 15, 2014, 06:30:25 AM Rather than milling the saber as one piece, why don't you mill two pieces and connect them with a curved pipe? If you weld them together it should help the strength of the hilt.
