Title: Consular Covertech?
Post by: Khaalis on August 05, 2013, 02:45:16 PM
Has anyone customized their Consular with a silver covertech wheel that they would share a picture of?  I'd like to see how it looks compared to the standard black.

I just purchased a consular for the 1st summer raffle and mine came with a Silver wheel standard.  You can see it here my video review.  About 18 seconds in I briefly roll the saber over and you can see the covertech.

Thanks. It definitely looks better to me in silver. I will have to order a silver clip and swap it out. On a side note, has anyone else gotten one they ordered (ie not a prize) that had the black wheel? Or was spedie just special getting his in silver?

Dang now you have me wondering, I just checked the item page for the consular, in the pictures and in the video from Emory they both have the black nob.  Maybe its something they are doing on Consulars now and your raffle prize was an older version.... no idea or maybe I'm just lucky lol

Was your consulars that came with the black wheels Nickel plated shroud or silver?  Maybe they give back with Nickel and silver with silver?

I ordered mine in silver. I didn't want to go Nickel because you cant get any of the other accessories (emitters, pommels, extensions, etc.) in nickel.  I believe black is standard so you just got lucky.

You could try to ask them what color is standard or if they will put the color wheel of your choice on there. US is a pretty user friendly company, it does not hurt to ask.

You could also just order the extra covertec wheel for a few extra dollars. I have found it never hurts to have extra parts on hand. Having extra parts has lead me to trying different modifications that worked out very well.

Last suggestion, if you do not want to ask and you do not want to spend the extra money, you could just roll the dice and see what you get. If it is black and you do not like it, there are ways to remove the anodizing. Look on the internet. There are some tutorials online using household chemicals to eat the finish off. I never tried it, but the video results speak for themselves.

Thanks CJ. Yeah I already received mine. It was my order to enter the 1st summer raffle. Mine came with the standard black. Oddly Speedie's came in silver. After seeing it with the silver, I decided I liked it better and ordered a silver one to swap out the black.

I guess I really did get lucky, maybe it just depends on who puts your saber together?  I honestly didn't think about it until you brought up this thread.  Well it shouldn't be hard for you to swap it out.

Silver shroud, not stainless
