My name is Aletani, and I recently bought my first ever lightsaber!!! I just got it in the mail today, WOOT!!!

I bought the Dark Initiate V3 Fire Orange with standard length blade. At first, I was very interested in the Dominix V3, but since I'm only 5'5" and about 110lbs (21yr old nerd-chick if anyone was curious), I felt that having a hilt the length of my thigh would make me look like a child playing with big boy toys. LOL Also, I would like to have my Orange be a little deeper redish-orange, I feel like in daylight and kinda in the dark, that it looks like an Orange Sherbert Orange, not what I picture a badass sith carrying around. haha So if anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them! :D

Now, I must apologize, I don't have any pictures yet of me in my outfit, since I just got my lightsaber today, and I was waiting until I got it to get some taken. I'll try and have some pics taken soon, they won't be professional (yet... I'd like to get some taken in the future), just some good ones for appreciating the outfit. It's a totally custom outfit, I ordered different pieces from some lesser known fashion designers (off etsy) and I'm very pleased with how it turned out: all black, mostly leather and leather-like materials, wedge platform boots, tight leggings, tight scrunchy vinyl asym top with chain on one shoulder. You can see why I'm apologizing for no pictures, it's very hard to describe and give the outfit the credit it deserves. Lol

Anyways, back to introductions... the important stuff: I have loved Star Wars for as long as I can remember. I love reading the books, I have an entire bookcase dedicated to them, I'm short about 30 books (and counting...), and don't have any more space for more on the shelves (trying to read thru them all, sadly during my childhood I did not really know about the books, my hubby has remedied that and I have read several series so far).

I have an awesome gaming pc that I built myself, with top end gaming components, that I use for playing SWtOR and GW2 (used to play LotRO heavily [Nevanara was my main toon]) and occasionally replaying for the umpteenth time the KOTOR and KOTOR 2 games. Tried Jedi Academy and Battlefront again recently (both beaten back in the day tons of times, same as KOTOR games) but those were a little more buggy and wouldn't run well on Windows 7.

I've grown up loving the original trilogy and watching them again and again, often having sleep over marathons with a house full of friends and family. Honestly, don't really like the newer ones, but they are awesome in their own right. I have to say, probably my favorite thing about the newer ones is the Varactyl that Obi Wan rides while fighting Grievous, it's my dream pet, lol. AND I saw that they FINALLY came out with a mount for SWtOR that is a Varactyl! I so want it, but I'm waiting for my sub coin grants to replenish to try again.... GAHHHH.

My favorite Characters would have to be Boba Fett, with Han Solo coming in a close second, original right? But I would have to say, I love how Corran Horn's lightsaber can change length, thats pretty epic. I, Jedi is a pretty sweet book. I've always thought that Mark Hamill was ugly and his face contortions in the classic "Luke, I am your Father - No! Thats not True! *CUE UGLY DERP FACE* Thats IMPOSSIBLE!" I cringe/laugh everytime.  ::)

Ok, now for some silly frivolous girly things about me. I love fall, I have a double helix piercing on my right ear, I have an ankle tatt, ring tatt, and forearm tatt, I have short dark hair that I generally leave however funky spikey way I find it in the mornings (think awesome japanese manga/anime type spikes). I love playing soccer, miss volleyball and track, longjump and 100m dash especially (2nd fastest girl on the team, whatev  8) ). I'd have to say that Fruits Basket (Japanese Manga) is my favorite manga/anime, tho initial d, blassreiter, soul eater, trinity blood, guin saga, etc were awesome too. Grew up dirt biking, camping, hiking, rock climbing, recently offroading a bit too. Recently climbed my first peak (from bottom to tippy top and down again) on labor day weekend (2013). I love muscle cars, my favorite ever being the '71 Dodge Challenger Hemi with Hemi Orange paint job. also, i'm a bit of a nerd, if you haven't figured that out. I love awesome movies, obviously the original SW trilogy, bladerunner, riddick, gladiator, pacific rim was like the epic nerd movie (loved it), alien series, Matrix trilogy (classic), (all sorts of stuff) tho I have to say that Singing in the Rain is my all time favorite (grew up watching that). Lol

So, I don't know how much of this interests you all, but there it is. LOL So If you feel like I left anything out, let me know, as me questions, I'd love to share.

Also, on my V3 Dark Initiate hilt, the blade plug is stuck, chopstick method hasn't budged it, and I'm actively looking for alternatives, thx.

Well, I hope I haven't bored you all to death, but that is a little bit about me. Haha

Oh, and a note on my SWtOR sig: This is me as a star wars character, I recently made a toon that is named aletani, but she's not a juggernaut since I've already leveled one of those, so it's not an exact representation of a toon on SWtOR, but of what I would be in the SW Galaxy, just change the saber's color to deep Orange and have it a human female (not miraluka) and we're good. lol And I don't know if I would actually be an active member of the Empire, I have an affinity for Revan (considering I was Revan in Kotor) and do not think that I would be totally dark side or even remotely close to totally light side. I think I would dabble in the light side, but would still be strongly dark side oriented. Idk, i'd love to talk more about that in a discussion if someone would kindly direct me to a good thread for that sort of thing. I would not be opposed to RP, but I have only done informal stuff with my friends a long while ago, so I am not familiar with how it works now a days.  :D

Ultrasabers has given me a great experience so far and I look forward to checking out more of the forum threads that I haven't perused and getting to know some of you awesome nerdy people!

YES! Addictive! Tatts and sabers. I'm already plotting my excuse to buy another!!! (My husband was very very impressed by mine, but he's 6'5" so he needs like an aeon or something of that sort, stupid Jedi) lol

And I'll do my best at getting a good picture this weekend to show you guys. I'm going to be doing a customization on my pommel piece so I can affix a D ring or something along those lines to attach it to the chain on my hip for my saber.  Gahhh! Pictures. You will get pictures. Maybe tomorrow.... Lol

And Darth Brutus, about death to all Jedi. I'm thinking that sounds mighty good next to the dark side is my strength. I may have to come up with a 2-3 liner motto for us saberforum sith... If you like the idea. (I'm an artist and dabble in poetry sometimes.) 😁

Yes, pretty basic, but it fits very well in my small hand and I am interested in learning proper stance and grip etc for lightsabers.

Have you gone through the way of the saber topics yet?  i've seen several good tips and tutorials in there.  Here's one good for starters (that i've found so far.  they explain things far better than i: http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=7499.0 (http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=7499.0)

Although a good tip for holding the saber, hold it as though you're shaking the hand of a friend.  not weak and limp, and not in a death grip.  and about the same angle across your palm as you have in the picture should be good for starters.

this one shows the chain I intend to eventually attach my saber to, thinking about machining two holes in the pommel
and attaching a d-ring to it so I can get a lobster claw latch for the chain and use it that way

Basic front view

so the leggings are half cotton on the inside of the leg, and pleather on the outside half of the leg.
the top crushed vinyl, with cotton on the outside, with the seam lining up with the seam of the leggings.
the boots are custom OOAK leather platform boots with flame design wedges (hard to see from far away, srry)
and I have chain on one shoulder and for the lightsaber to mount to.
with my Dark Initiate V3 lightsaber (fire orange, tho i'm hoping to get a filter to make it a darker orange), blade plug is in,

I'm pretty interested in getting involved with the Old Republic Era RP, I know more about it than the stuff around the movies, ironic i know, but i've been an avid fan of Revan and all that, so. ^_^

I've been trying to come up with a good way to introduce my character to the RP, but I need to read the storyline so far, or as much as i can of the more recent stuff, i don't know how long you've been writing or how many pages are written, but I'm very interested. I've done some informal RP with a friend about, sheesh, ten years ago? maybe 7-8yrs ago? and loved it, b/c i'm totally into creative writing and story writing and what not, so i'll try and invest some prep time for that this week and there after. Hopefully, I can mesh in well. One of my problems is the fact that I know that I would be dark side, but i know i wouldn't be a petty power mongerer who kills anyone who pisses me off or doesn't affect me, but i would not call myself a "dark Jedi" b/c I hate the jedi, lolz.........  ;D So a sith with scruples...... so i need to get my character and back story down once i've seen more of the RP that's been going on, i briefly glanced thru some of the pages of characters and feel that i would fit well with possibly the grey sith, but dunno how i could get involved, trying to think of some sort of back story to drop me into their midst.... like i said, i need to do research into your guy's storylines and if thats even the right era that i read, or if i was reading the other one, tbh I don't remember the thread titles, so i need to see what era/thread i would work best with. blaaahhhh. sorry.

Yeah, you've got the right era. That's all TOR stuff you've read there. :) I'm really more the GCW guy, but ed_ification or BenPass can get you plugged in to TOR whenever you are ready. (Though Ben is currently on a trip overseas without internet) But really, what's so bad about joining the Rebellion? ;)

well..... as long as you'd take in a defecting sith...... there might be possibilities there...... hmmmmmmm :D

I must say that the TOR RP is looking pretty good right now.  I've got Nahal coming back from years of being a Sith after betraying the Order.  I like the class Archetype system as well.  Jedi Consular, Gaurdian, Sentinel then Master, Weapon Master and Watchmen, which is Nahal's ultimate goal.  Redemption, becoming a Sentinel again, then a Watchmen and then fulfilling his urge to extend the reach of the Jedi so on and so forth. and Sith Acolyte archetypes which lead to Marauder, Assassin and Lord.  I like these types of things.  Any Jedi can be a Master not matter his/her class.  Any Sith can be a Lord no matter his/her class.  I like that a Master or a Lord doesn't actually make you a Master or Lord.  GCW era had just Jedi and Sith.  Master and Padawan or Master and Apprentice.  Also, good luck escaping the rule of two.  It would be interesting, however, to see a Sith try to bring back the old ways.  A Marauder and a Lord would be an awesome team.

I do enjoy the dynamics of TOR better than GCW, I think what would happen for Aletani in TOR is that I wouldn't be power hungry enough or something like that and be outcast for not "being worthy of the title Sith" just because I refuse to perpetuate the folly of apprentice murdering master, idk. like I said, i'm going to spend some time reading thru the details on the RP stuff and figure out from there.

btw, idk if you mean marauder as in duel wielding like in swtor, but i'd def be a juggernaut, just single blade fighting. idk. i know so little about the forms too. haha, i hunger for all this knowledge, but it takes time!!!

Oh yes. It's much better and their new content is superb. It really is much better. I have 6 over 40, 4 at or over 50, and as of last night one at 55 (new cap). It's been so much fun and I grew up playing both kotor games tons of times, as well as battlefront, Jedi knight, Jedi academy, etc. so it's awesome to see more time invested in expanding TOR.

Just last night on Makeb, the new content, I had a striking moment of: this reminds me of kotor. And that was really awesome. A lot of it reminds me, but that was the first time it slapped me in the face that it was still my good old kotor, just on a grander scale.

Having a very high end gaming rig helps too. 😁

Oh yes, the Jedi Knight parts are really awesome...Kotor and Battlefront, too. And TOR was fascinating (if it would have been less buggy over the last months -.-), it was my first MMORPG game ever ^^

Wow! Your first! I played Lotro for several years and guild wars 2 for about a year and swtor for about 1-2 years. Fun stuff.

Swtor has been a lot better IMO as they bring in more new content. I also don't experience some of the buggyness because I am able to run everything on highest settings b/c of PC components. But I think they have also been working hard at being more smoothly run even on low end, so maybe you'll give it another try sometime. 😊 I'm on the Harbinger server. 👍

Also my first mmo. Sweet cosplay, and I married a tiny woman... You ladies tend to hit hard. My wife almost knocked out one of my Marine buddies once. Yes he deserved it.

Yeah, wasn't a fan of the first MMOs like WoW ^^ I never thought I would play one...until my neighbours dragged me in xD
Most bugs I experienced were related to the program code, since my PC is already high-end ^^
I'm on two servers, Red Eclipse and Vanjervalis Chain...I don't think I will start a third one xD It's already hard to care about my chars on both servers - 4 each, all Republic ;)

I've never been interested in WoW... bleh. lol

yeah, i've had one or two problems, but nothing major or game breaking.

all republic?? what a shame! there are some awesome story lines in the empire side. I'd have to say that I love the jedi knight story and how it follows the Revan stuff, but i'm kinda mad they didn't integrate more of the other kotor stuff into the other storylines. I've really enjoyed all of the storylines tho. I have two troopers, and two warriors just to replay them again, and i didn't want to level another jedi with my hubby (already have both fairly high levels), so i made a trooper for that lol and i wanted a cathar toon, so that's two birds with one stone.

Alright everyone, my custom build saber parts are in the mail, should arrive wednesday (i'll be out of town), but will post pics on thursday of the emitter, hilt, and pommel together as a preview before being built and hopefully slightly weathered.

HOWEVER, it does still need a name since the aesthetic pieces are from all different US sabers. I'm using the Manticore emitter, War Glaive body, and either the Archon Classic or Raven Plain as the pommel.

So, I'd love to hear suggestions for the name of my personally built saber, which I will probably design my (RP TOR) character's saber after when it actually comes to that in the RP.

My thoughts so far: I'll almost certainly be a sith, and I eventually want to be known as Aletani the Dauntless, is it too redundant for my saber to be called Dauntless?

It's late, and I'm heading to bed. So I'd love to hear what you guys suggest. and once I get my character fleshed out, I'll post the details here as well as on the characters page for RP. so that might influence what I name it as well.

Man, idk which I would pick for an empire toon, all of mine have sweet story lines and all have different highlights to them. Sith juggernaut and BH Powertech are pretty sweet, but my Sith Assassin is very awesome, same with my Imperial Agent......

The new content is quite good and I am getting back into playing the game more now that I am getting into the TOR RP section.  They kind of fuel each other.  Sounds like you have about as many toons as I do at those levels.  I look at it and I'm like "sheesh, do I really have 14 toons?"     Also, NEW SPACE CONTENT!  I don't care much for PvP, but I think the new space content might get me interested.

Nice! The saber definitely compliments the outfit. I almost chose the black reaper with an orange blade for my first saber...it was a hard choice. Great first outfit!

here ya go... tough image to place, if you took a photo in a darker room with a nice light off to the side, I could put you into a darker - seedier environment.  this only took me about 10-15 mins, but I still put a little thought into it.  Hey - put on the gloves and re-take some pics.  I also only had some low - res to work with, so send some higher res pics next time and it'll improve a little...

On SWTOR I have equal toons on both factions on the Jedi Covenant server.  Though a lot of people here play on Ebon Hawk I think.

In the TOR RP section I am just starting out in the T&P section.  I am a Jedi Padawan, so obviously the Republic faction.  Should I "graduate" from the T&P section I have an "evolved" form of my guy as a Jedi Knight to move to the main TOR RP section.  I have a feeling you would be on the Sith side though.   ;)   Never the less, if you were perhaps we might meet as rivals or allies against a common foe.

Haha, I'd love to see how an alliance would go. I've thought about even letting my character be in the republic faction, but I think I would be booted for not accepting the Jedi way and their platitudes, lol. But my PC isn't even a sith to start out with, just a force sensitive making a living as a messenger for a hutt, and i'm hoping one of the PCs will be willing to purchase me or something like that to insert me into the plot line. No sudden appearance from no where with no connections. lol trying to be thorough.

You could just change the levels and brightness of her alone to help her fit into that environment better. Try Nar Shadda perhaps?

This is the difference between FO (left) and PO (right).

Yeah... I've had family describe FO as "orange soda" colored. lol
Anyways, if you want a redder orange: you could try a Pyrestone Orange saber. My dad likes his better than his old FO.

Haha. Yeah, the right one is the pyrestone orange. It's more of a white core orange look. While the fire orange is an orange sherbet, the one on the left. I own these two.

As for the FO/PO mixup, I always refer to FO as "Fanta Orange" and PO as, well, orange I guess  :D

The benefit of being creative and having a mother with a jewelry business. Woot!

I did this all myself. The knot on the hilt is a turk's head, I wove the ends down so they would hang naturally, then used some gunmetal chain, beads, and odds and ends, and using a wire wrapping technique for the end pieces.

Great job on the creative factor overall on the saber!

The painting is by an artist I love named Michael Parkes.

And the small japanese ceramic with the orange orchids to the left of the pic is something I put together. And the bamboo is a live plant my hubby got for me from the grocery store. ^_^ and the tapestry runner on my desk is one that I made a long time ago. Hope those are what you're referring to. for me stances are easy as I have studied Bo kata, kendo, and bushido. If you need pointers though they have nice videos on youtube for saber basics.

I would have loved to have had the breadth of cool Star Wars stuff available to me when I was younger.  I would have been SOOOOOO into the costumes, and cosplay scene.  As it is, I live vicariously through all of you.

thanks! The Sith outfit (the black leather one) was pieced together from various small businesses.

the Dark Jedi (samurai style) took me probably around 50 hours or so - I completely custom made it from scratch, using newspaper patterns and what not. ^_^ It was a ton of fun! but now I think I should make a sleeveless tunic for it to show off my sleeve hehe.

Hi Aletani.  Nice to see you on the forum again.  I think that there was a huge cosmic joke or collective joining when I became the owner of your first personally built saber earlier this year.  I had no idea of your character's full name, background or saber's name and just read about it or perhaps had totally forgotten.  Only knew that I liked it from the first time that I saw photos of it, I am thinking a while back in the gallery photos of Manticores ?  If you still have a close up of the saber would you please post it here so that everyone can view the final customized outcome ( I'm not yet able to post pics ) and perhaps a final description.  Thanks oodles.

Edit:  Found some photos of the saber on your other thread under Costumes and Props.

Dauntless - Pyrestone Orange Stunt, Manticore Emitter, War Glaive Body, Archon Classic Pommel. This one of a kind saber was painstakingly made by myself - my "initiation" build - it was a special project between my retired electrical engineer grandfather and I - all connections are well soldered and it's in perfect condition. Lacing and tassels were hand made by me placed over supple, patterned leather.

Glad you're enjoying it! It'll always be a special hilt to me. Awesome cosplays! I really like your use of colors. very different from they typical browns and blacks you see in many Jedi Cosplays. I am currently awaiting my first US then it's off to the fabric store to collect the materials for mine. Just still debating on a robe or not.. Anyway..rambling.. Great work!
