Greetings all, I would first like to say thank you Ultra and those with UltraSabers who work hard to make the works of art we buy from you :D

This is my first saber, The Catalyst, and I have to say it is beautiful. It is made from aircraft aluminum and has a polycarbonate blade. The blade I chose is the UltraEdge blade, and I must say that that thing lights up VERY well. I got a blue LED with it, and it shows up VERY well, it is VERY bright. My two favorite things is the emitter is attached by a choke, which is perfect for holding and makes it easier to spin the blade around in your hand. The second thing is that the emitter has four.. prongs that give the Catalyst a nice distinction. Now, I got my Catalyst with the Obsidian Soundboard, and I must say I am very happy with it. It responds to swings very well, and sounds beautiful. I plan on doing some work on my Catalyst soon, but that will be posted (later) on the Customization forum :) And now... Pictures! To be honest I do not think the pictures do the brightness and equality of the blade justice..

First, the entire saber and blade. I hope you can see how bright that thing is. And this is in light too. The only time you can't see the LED's lights is in direct sunlight. Even if I'm in a tree's shadow it shows rather well.

Second is mostly just the hilt, you can see some of the blade and maybe better brightness.

Third is the blade, and hilt separated. The blade is REALLY easy to take out, though I am a bit paranoid about how deep I can put the screw in. Sometimes it seems wobbly and then I'll tighten it and it's fine, but looking at it it seems really... deep? I dunno.

This next picture you can see the "prongs" really well, and part of the choke.

This is the bottom of the saber, opened up so you can see the battery pack (holds 4 AAA batteries btw) with the built in speaker, and unfortunately it won't come out much farther but it's connected to the obsidian soundboard there. The wires always pull it back in, and I don't want to pull it any farther less I risk yanking wires. I just noticed you CAN see the USB port for the obsidian soundboard. So there you go :) and the speaker holes in the pommel, and reflector in the emitter.

And the last picture, this is the emitter and pommel removed, the choke unscrewed a bit, still holding the LED, and it all turned on. Now it looks like a really nice flashlight, but.. that's okay because that's what a lightsaber is without a blade. A very nice flashlight. At least what most people think..

And that's it. It's really easy to take off the emitter and pommel, the blade is wonderful and sturdy, and the color is bright and..well.. right :) It is blue and it shows. Thanks for reading! Thanks I will! Me personally I think it sounds very nice, high quality, decently loud. It's loud. But not too loud. My girlfriend thinks hers is a little quiet, but mine sounds great honestly :)

Ahh... the catalyst.  I would own one, but every time I build up my funds Ultra comes out with a new saber that I have to get.  Maybe sometime I'll get one.  Until then I'll just stare at pics...

Same here, I've been itching to get this saber for a while.  The choke point and awesome pronged emitter combined with its overall elegant look just calls to me...

Thanks I am! It is a lot of fun. Very easy to twirl and stuff. You guys should get one if you ever get the chance. And I think you'll be able to get quick disconnect when the custom division gets underway and stuff :) so yeah you should be able to get it.

How does it balance out ?

All reviews i saw, all say "it's balanced well" but i would like to know, where the balance point is. Is it spot on the Chokepoint ?

Well well balanced to me is you can do a lot with it easily.. twirls and stuff. Yeah I hold mine at the choke point, if I want to twirl it one way, it doesn't go off balance or anything. I can spin it closer to my body then most other sabers I've used.

Ughhh I have also been aching for a Catalyst in one of the green shades.  Of course, lately I've been thinking of either Sentinel Yellow or Dark Violet.

i really like the catalyst and idk if i would want the first 1 or the dark 1. i think a dark one would look awesome in srd and a blue anti vandal switch. i like both of em alot though

How sturdy is the saber? Is there any loose components?  Does it rattle at all or is it a sturdy build? I been thinking about possibly getting this saber

Nevermind. It is a beautiful saber but it doesn't have a quick disconnect option. Untilled it does. It think Ill wait. Still all in all its a beautiful saber

Yes it is a very sturdy lightsaber, the only issue I've ever had with it is that the little prongs at the end can sometimes make it seem like the saber is "bending" more then it should be but it works out fine. I have to tighten the blade every now and then as well but that is because of my own shenanigans. :)

Is it arctic blue or gaurdian blue?

How does the blade sit? Does it sit pretty deep?

No, the blade doesn't sit very deep. It ends where the emitter, screws into the top of the choke.

It can be a bit blade heavy IMO, I just took some pennies and duct taped them in a roll and they added a nice counter balance.

This is a sick saber though.



If you do get this saber get is with the QD option that way you can take it apart if you want to.

I've been thinking of getting a dark catalyst with a fire orange blade ever since i saw this beauty >_< My only worry is with how shallow it sits i'm worried about the strength or the bottom of the blade during a duel. Is it still pretty strong? I just don't wanna take the risk of messing up the emitter section of the saber by putting too much stress on it.

The Catalyst is a pretty amazing saber, I hope you've been enjoying it!! ^-^ I hope to get one myself, this is one elegant saber design, but the dark one is nice too.   ;D

Here is the blade out of the emitter with the dimple lined up to the retention screw - the Cat blade sits pretty shallow...

Here is a comparison of how far the blade sits in my Overlord vs. my Catalyst.  Maybe because I got the Overlord first and I'm used to it sitting deep the shallowness of the Cat makes me a little nervous, especially since the prongs on the emitter are not snug to the blade.

I've also been thinking about getting a Catalyst for my GF to be dueling partner, but I was worried too about that as well.
From what we can see on the photos above, it seems obvious that the Catalyst would be more stressed at the bottom of the blade / choke than other sabers without that kind of choke.
Looks very nice on display, but then, how does this saber respond to duels?

The Catalyst is a tried and true design that we have offered for years.  It is more than adequate for dueling. 

Oh, I believe it; I'm just saying I get nervous though by comparison to a deeper sitting blade.  :) 

If I'd owned my Catalyst first and then got the Overlord I'd probably have thought the blade depth on the 'Lord was overkill.

I absolutely love my Catalyst. I love the feel of it so much, that this past Dragon*Con I picked up a second one, and a coupler.

Myself & my daughter mugging for the camera.

Specs: one cat with Adegan Silver/Councilor Green foc & a heavy duty blade one with reversed colors and a UltraEdge blade. Both have obsidian soundboards.

As an aside: on my original,  I have a plastic reflector around the LED, but on the new one, I have a polycarbonate lens. Is there anyway I can get another lens to upgrade my older saber?

Nice saber actually seeing up close detailed pics. The saber just hasn't really gotten to me yet for some reason. I might get one in the future though.

Beautiful saber, and although the hilt is beautiful in general, the color added makes it look even better, points!

Post from 2011 and still popular :P What Ultra said makes me officially want one but in Sun Rider's Destiny. Would be a sweet one for sure
