So I always wanted to build an “original” blaster. I struggled to find a base gun that was not from the movies but also not overdone. While at the toy store I saw a little NERF blaster. This blaster sort of reminded me of the general size and shape of the Biker Scouts blasters which I always loved. So…..

The gun had some small electronics in it that I wanted to preserve so I completely disassembled the gun for painting.

I used Krylon Fushion Flat Black and added the metal look with Rub N Buff. I used a little bit of Gold Leaf Rub N Buff on the stripe running along the barrel to add a little color. I then clear coated it.

A trick I will pass on…. This was something used to do when model building and it works well here, too. The area I live in rarely has ideal conditions for spray painting. I usually end up with a little bit of tackiness to the finish. I find that if I leave the model/blaster on the bench with an open jar of Vick’s Vapor Rub next to it for a few hours, it takes the tacky away. DO NOT PUT THE RUB ON THE BLASTER! Just let the vapors work their magic. There is probably a chemistry reason for this that I do not understand, but it works. It makes sense since I remember as a kid when I had a cold and mom would put that vaporizer in my room, all of my posters would fall off the walls.

If you want to try this style of blaster mod, be aware of the world’s smallest nut that holds on the battery cover plate. You will spend lots of time chasing it around the floor, ask me how I know.

I am pleased with the way this came out.  If I had to do it all over again I think I would paint the trigger gold as well just to add a little more color but I did not feel like taking it apart and repainting one part.

Next I want to make a holster for it, but that is a project for another day.

Amazing work! I would seriously pay $ for something like this. Point!

I think that might be the nerf gun I've been eyeing off to do mods on :) very nice, and if I do get one I shall heed your warning about the nut :P

It might fit a holster for a full-size pistol with a laser.  Something like a Glock 17 with a laser. 

This is fantastic, really came out looking like a blaster!  Reminds me of some of the Old Republic style guns.

OK, here is the holster I made. It is made in the styling of the Stormtroopers' holsters. I made it from gray/green canvas and used dark gray bias tape. It is hung from an old pistol belt I got at a surplus store years ago.

Because once the ball gets rolling, I just can't stop it, I made a few accessory pouches and a covert lightsaber pouch. I had an idea of a Jedi on a secret mission posing as a smuggler, wanting his saber close by but not so noticeable.

I didn't realize how small that was, that's nice and concealable!

Looks a bit like a Mara Jade style 'hold-out pistol'.

Nice blaster. I like it. So that certain Nerf has firing sounds and duh or just the lazer pointer?

I wonder how it would look on my nerf sniper... >:)
