Title: Modern day (everyday) Jedi
Post by: Master Lucien Kane on December 02, 2013, 09:53:03 AM
Hey everyone, I've read a few threads where people are looking for ideas for modern day Jedi costumes... Stuff that they can wear and be a Jedi while not straying too far from the norms of society. As some of you are aware (those of you who aren't get ready) I carry my lightsaber daily. The lightsaber by far is the most distinguishing feature of a member of the Jedi Order. I don't want to say it doesn't matter what you wear as long as you wear a lightsaber (but I'm not, not saying that either). lol

I have a peculiar sense of fashion as I'm a huge nerd and I like dressing like some of my favorite heroes out of costume anyways. So here's some of what I wear daily, and has come to be part of my "Urban Jedi" attire.

Let me know what you guys think!

Edit: Also I apologize for the terrible pictures. I've been meaning to get my wife to go out with me so we can do a proper shoot, but we just haven't had the time. So you get my sloppy 2:00AM pictures. I look like a Jedi who's been out on assignment for three days without a cup of caf...

I'm glad I'm not then only one awake at 2-3am. The attire looks a lot of how I dress, I usually wear jeans, boots, T-shirt or long sleeve and later in the year I wear a dickies jacket that my wife hates! I've often thought my normal sence of fashion could be similar to some kind of galactic scoundrel like Han Solo. But I couldn't carry a blaster on me!

I like and respect that you carry a saber around on you. I can only hope your job is OK with that. Mine would definitely not be OK with it. Do you ever take it off your belt for any reason? To show it off, or if it gets in the way, etc?  Is that the saber you carry? What kind is it? Your sense of honor and discipline to carry it around on you is definitely inspiring.

Those are pretty cool.  I especially like the last few.  Look more like fighter/brawler types.

Even though I don't wear my saber on me every day (School probably wouldn't appreciate it) I'll definitely try and posts some picks of how I would envision my Modern/Urban Jedi/Sith.

Thanks for the interest, I've had a few jobs over the past few years, some have required that I take it off during work hours, some didn't. The career I have now is nothing short of a dream job and I carry my saber daily.

This is my beater saber, it's weathered, it's a stunt, it's based off of the old republic saber you get as a Jedi.

I have another saber that I made for my son (he's too young to carry it) I wear that one out, and I use it for our saber combat class.

Thanks for the interest! Not everyone can carry their sabers daily, and I totally understand, I've made it the norm in my life, to the point that it's weird if I don't have it.

Thanks for those pictures Master Kane. You pull off the look well.

I think if I grew a beard it could help me pull it off but I am not allowed to have facial hair at work....so that is out.

I also cannot have an electrical device that is not intrinsically safe so a saber is out.

I bought a saber key chain from the other guys that I wear to fill the void but it is not the same.

You have inspired me none the less. I just need to work out the logistics of it all.

Thanks for sharing your style.

Lucien can definitely give off the Kyle Katarn vibe... I think it's the beard!

This is a great demonstration of a modern-day Jedi, a bit of style but still humble and combat-ready.  Mine tends to be a little more edgy looking, since I wear a high-collared black jacket (what can I say, I like Dark Side fashion!).  Same idea though!

I've definitely worn my saber a couple days at work... but considering I work for the army, I usually have to be careful what I bring to work with me.

Love the pics.  For a moment there, I imagined you with Adamantium Claws shooting from your hands as well.  Great look and great pics.

Looks great!  It looks like basically a more "streetable" style, if that makes sense.  I like the jacket.  Adds a good touch to it, plus it looks comfortable.

I will admit, I'd feel really really weird carrying a lightsaber every day opposite a gun.  lol.  But I suppose it still would be very Jedi-ish, since Luke carried a blaster too!

This is exactly what I will be doing. Can't get any better boots though. Got me a Jacen style top the other night so I will be using that and my black dress pants and belt. I do got tall black shoes I could use though but they are laced. Let me know if I'd be able to use those. There about ankle high.

Plus, the gun /saber combo would have a sort of "Jedi Mercenary" feel. And that is what I would be going for.

I like the take on the "present day Jedi" look.
It's definitely got that ESB Luke outfit vibe going on with it, jacket, tank top, sorta monochromatic... I'm diggin' it.

And Oramac, I guess you could count your saber hilt (blades might get awkward) as a tactical flashlight, if anyone said anything.

I got boots figured out so I will be posting my modern day Jedi costume here soon. The boots might seem kind of Sith but I'm wanting my costume to have some edge to it.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Master Attoru I do have the attitude for a proper Katarn I suppose.

Bluespike, I need to put on like 20 more pounds of muscle to pull off a good Wolverine, but thank you! lol He's the one Superhero I'm not too short to cosplay as.

Oddly enough, Hugh Jackman is like 6'3" or something.  Way way taller than Wolverine in the comics.  They had everyone standing on boxes during filming so it'd look right.  lol.

This is absolutely fantastic. It definitely looks modern yet still holds to some of the "old" appearance of the jedi. I could see you fighting off a sith or two.  :-P

Now I feel like a rip-off. this is kind of the outfit I plan on using to raid my buddies house this christmas. :-P

Yeah but wolverine is supposed to be a short guy

Yeah but wolverine is supposed to be a short guy

That's my point.  Everyone was up in arms when they cast him, but it turned out all right.  The reverse is probably also true.  You could do a much taller character just fine, I'd think.

Not that you'd be a bad Wolverine, just that appearance doesn't always matter so much.
