Title: My newest saber purchase and first review. Pic and text Heavy!
Post by: srams on February 15, 2014, 06:55:47 AM
This tax season has come and gone for me already. I know, I move quick. So with my tax return I finally got a new saber after almost a year and a half. After much deliberation I decided to buy an Archon in Pyrestone Orange.  I made this decision on a few factors, price, particular parts, design, and other saber forum reviews. Nearly all reviews are very positive for this saber. And I have to add another.

But first funny story... I was certain that the Fed Ex guy was going to come while my kid was napping so I put a note on the door for him to just leave it at the door...(don't know if they can actually do that with out a sig.) Any way I was home from work on my lunch break and my wife was in a hurry to leave, I thought Fed Ex guys is going to come for sure while were gone, and I won't be able to get my saber until tomorrow after noon at the fed ex place! We're walking up to the car and I almost run right into him! I sign the stupid electronic pad, wife makes some stupid "my husbands a total nerd" joke, fed ex guy laughs, I ignore them both and I run back up stairs to open my box. Play with my new toy, then take it on the car ride back to work. Now my review.

Order/ Shipping 9/10

From order to arrival it was literally five days. Ordered it Monday 2/10 evening, got it today, Friday 2/14 (VDay) afternoon. Love how fast it was... I think this time it took them less time since they moved to Texas than it did last time when they were in California, only about 3-4 hours away from me. That's unbeatable.

First impression: Saber Hilt 8.5/10

The first thing I said when in packing it was "oh (bleep) packing peanuts!" Lol, second thing I said was "wow its so light weight!" I finally held it in my hand, after fighting with bubble wrap. It felt just so comfortable, and I just had to swing it around, this thing just has so much natural kinetic energy to it. Its beautifully machined, the choke is very ergonomic and I like the emitter much more than I expected to. The ribs were not as I expected. I thought they would be deeper, but they are nice that they are not too deep, or sharp. The cover tech knob is a very nice addition.  I love the body and pommel, those were my main reasons for buying this hilt. I also bought a vented flush coupler too. It looks and feels amazing! And I plan on adding more MHS parts later. Then I turned it on!

Blade Color: Pyrestone Orange.

First impression: Saber Color 7/10

I hit the blade on and was a bit disappointed. I ordered PO and was a little PO'ed with it. Not really I just wanted to write that pun. The color was much more yellow than I expected. It looked more like Fire Orange. Which I still do love, but I was expecting a more red orange. I already have an old FO and I really wanted a redder orange. Though it could be my saber's LED in particular, as each forum color is hand tuned. As the batteries wear it turns more reddish and more of the color I expected, as you can see in these photos. But I'm still very happy with it.

And... so I also got a few parts from another online vendor, and of course got those in the mail today too. I got a female/female coupler to work off of the Archon's choke and flush coupler, and another emitter.

Over all, I love this saber. I may try to modify and redden the color some more, but for now I do enjoy it.  I love how it feels, I love how versatile it is, and it was a great price too. I can see why it is so popular. Ultra, great job! My year and half wait was worth it!

Nice Archon. I more like the saber with the original parts. That's just me though.
