Title: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Karmack on April 21, 2014, 08:19:26 PM Hey all, a question: My daughter and I are working on a long chase/duel for our fall festival. For various reasons we're trying to stay away from the obvious SW Jedi/Sith costumes in favor of a "Street Clothes' look.
So, what are the essential elements of a "modern Jedi" outfit? Thoughts? Comments? Right now I'm leaning toward a "mercenary" kind of look for myself, as I'm the dark character, with black cargo pants, black T-shirt and loose black over-shirt. And of course my Dominix V3... Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Karmack on April 22, 2014, 06:12:21 PM Hmm... Actually, the "ninja mask" that many snow boarders use would be very cool. Get the "Winter Soldier" look going... I like it. :-)
Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Darth Mortuum on April 23, 2014, 11:21:53 AM For a Sith/bounty hunter/bad guy - you can't go wrong with black leather. It's durable and fits/wears very well (if you're planning to play the character more than once), and it can look cool and mean. I don't recommend a jacket if you're duelling (it will severely hamper movement) but leather jeans and/or a leather vest/waistcoat would be neat. Try a local second-hand store/thrift store/factory seconds outlet for potential bargains. Velvet would also work well for Sith, I think - a dark coloured waistcoat (dark red, burgundy?); a little flamboyance never hurt a bad guy's look!

Going off of this, I am planning on buying a black gothic trenchcoat, and I am going to see if I can get a local tailor to put one of those black oversized hoods that Jedi/Sith robes have onto the coat. It will be both my costume coat, and my actual coat. Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Karmack on April 23, 2014, 03:51:46 PM Actually my daughter had a great idea last night to go with a "western" feel. Long dusters and "gun belts" as it were for sabers and such. Also will probably throw in a holstered blaster. Never know when having a "conventional" side-arm might come in handy. :-)

It will be both my costume coat, and my actual coat. That is a spectacular idea. Pretty sure I'd copy that if I had the cash to do it. Never know when having a "conventional" side-arm might come in handy. :-) Also a great idea. And I love the idea of carrying a lightsaber and a sidearm. So here's a little Space Cowboy inspiration: (http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i167/browncoatrebel/Firefly/Mal/z005ff.jpg) Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Karmack on April 28, 2014, 05:40:02 PM oh, point for the Firefly reference. :-)

Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Karmack on April 29, 2014, 04:16:32 PM Very nice Aletani!
We're getting close to finalizing the look. I'll post some pics as soon as we get it settled. :-) Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Aletani on April 29, 2014, 09:33:41 PM awesome! I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!!! I'm sure it'll be fantastic!
and thank you for the compliments! ^_^ Star Wars and Lightsabers are so much fun! I just can't help it! :D Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Kresnik on April 29, 2014, 11:21:47 PM awesome! I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!!! Just hand them a lightsaber and whatever they are wearing is a costume ... Lol Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Zren Tobas on April 30, 2014, 01:16:21 AM What type of shoes/boots would work for this idea? I might throw something together. I have the perfect leather jacket that can work. :)

Lol I think that's a little bit exaggerated, but i'll try to take that as a compliment.... ;) such is my normal everyday wear after all, us nerd ladies have to stay sharp. ::) What type of shoes/boots would work for this idea? I might throw something together. I have the perfect leather jacket that can work. :) I have a pair of Romika's that I use, black leather, inside zipper, modern sleek look: (http://s.stpost.com/eccstorefront/product_images/2813c/f_2813c_1.1.jpg) Also, these Cushe sneakers that I have work well for a more urban look, the above following along the star wars guildlines of no obvious lacing or zippers: (http://www.drdenim.com/images/P/UM00531_BLACK_1.jpg) obviously sneakers like these and a male equivalent of the romikas i think would complement the urban outfit well, especially coupled with a leather jacket like in my pic. :) and I'm sorry, I don't mean to take over the thread, just giving my examples of what i would use for an Urban Sith/Jedi type outfit. :) Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: ThreadJack on April 30, 2014, 06:45:12 AM Hmm... Actually, the "ninja mask" that many snow boarders use would be very cool. Get the "Winter Soldier" look going... I like it. :-) Ummm, it's called a gaiter, and it's very useful for keeping cold wind and snow out of your face and neck area of your jacket.... And I wouldn't, they're deigned to keep that area warm, and will be pretty uncomfortable unless it's cold out. Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Karmack on April 30, 2014, 01:40:46 PM Thanks! Good point. Alabama is not a good evironment for something like a gaiter. :-) 'Gator, yeah...
Oh my. I must be tired... My young daughter pointed something out to me yesterday: Bibleman carries an SY "lightsaber" as his primary weapon. So now I have another whole tack to consider... :-) Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: scraver on April 30, 2014, 05:38:16 PM I know what I'd use for a non-traditional Jedi costume but it's not exactly modern and it wouldn't be comfortable in warm weather.
I have an ankle length (I'm 5'8) grey greatcoat. Heavy wool. It's German military surplus and I've had it a good long time. I'd probably put my grey hoodie under that - so I have hood. Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: Yetso on May 01, 2014, 01:16:46 AM Adding something like this (Crisiswear Wasteland Cowl w/ Hood) to the modern Sith would add another layer of texture, connect you back to the canon (The Sith LOVE their hoods), but still be fairly modern.
(http://www.fiveanddiamond.com/store/images/W/Crisiswear%20Wasteland%20Cowl%20-%20black.jpg) I'm thinking of using it in my modern Grey Jedi/Bounty Hunter along with my Tripp Pants. Title: Re: "Modern" Jedi/Sith outfits Post by: SteampunkSith on May 01, 2014, 03:15:59 AM Ooh, that hood thing is really, really cool!
