Title: Bringing your saber into Celebrations
Post by: drtdgr2 on May 05, 2014, 01:19:26 AM
I was wondering if it is common for a regular patron to bring their lightsaber into a star wars celebration! I want to to attend celebration Anaheim and was hoping a few of you who have been to Star Wars celebrations in the past could tell me if there are any problems getting them in or if many people even do it. Because I don't really want to be the only guy with a lightsaber. A little awkward in my opinion. Haha! Thanks!

I've never been to Celebration, but have been to Ren Faires. Some allow weapons that are "peace tied", I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed to, or that you would be the only one. If, when going to Celebration, they have a problem with your saber, pop in a blade plug and use it as a costume piece. That's all I can think of at the moment without further research.

I brought my lightsabre to a convention a couple of weeks ago, and the first security guard waved me through after seeing it, and the second directed me to a special area where they had a station set up to look over weapons. After inspection, they didn't have a problem with it. The only guy I saw whom they didn't let in had a metal sword. So, you should be fine, but you can always check the website etc of the con to see if they have specific rules. You might also check the net for pictures of past years, to get a feeling for what types of weapons are generally allowed, though it's completely possible that they'll change year to year, or a particular security guard won't let in something that was allowed in the past. If you're taking your car, you can always put the blade in your trunk and walk around with just the hilt if it comes to that.

Jokingly you could say hey its a real lightsaber! :D I would do that. Lol. But it'd be obvious that it wouldn't be a real lightsaber.

Considering Anaheim is specifically for Star Wars, many people show up with saber props. It's a STAR WARS convention you know, so they expect people to show up dressed as various folks that wield sabers. This also goes for blaster props. If you question a "Weapons" Policy, you can always look it up on their website beforehand as well to make sure.

Another way to check? Look up photographs from the event, and see if there are people using them at the convention.

Are these "celebrations" only in Europe and Cali? Is there one in Chicago ever?

I doubt those were ultra sabers. Ultra Sabers don't break like that.
