Title: Best Batteries
Post by: ThreadJack on December 24, 2010, 10:23:19 PM
I looked around on the old forum and so far I can't find a real answer to this. All the answers I found depend on what type of LED, but I don't know what that is, only the color. So:

What batteries are recommended for use in a Malice stunt with a Consular Green LED?

In a Malice with a Green LED you can use either Alkalines or Nimh rechargeables.

Thank you Ultra.

My all time Fav Alkalines are the somewhat pricey e2 by Enigizer. But the NiMHs are quite impressive! I haven't use Alkalines since. But they're even more. Are they worth it? ...To me, Oh Yeah! But run time IS shorter so they're not what I use on say, Halloween.

Wow. Is all I can say! I got some Rayovac  Nimh AAA's at Walmart today just as you guys suggested, and they're great. The color is MUCH brighter! I can barely look at the blade for a few seconds before my eyes hurt!

Here's something I've been wondering and I think it fits perfectly in this thread. I've got two initiates on the way and they both have TriRebel setups (VA & SRD). I've got some AAA NiMh batteries from TCSS and they run at 1000mAh so...

If I use these, will they pop the LED's??

No, the LED will be fine.  The rating on batteries is milliampere-hours (mAh).  It's a unit of electric charge.  Not to be confused with a milliamp (mA) which is a unit of electric current.

1000 milliampere-hours means that one battery will power a 1.2v device at 1000 milliamps of current for one hour.  Four in series will power a 4.8v device at 1000 milliamp for one hour.  The LED will not draw more current from the battery than it can handle.

Thanks a bunch for the help! I never really noticed the difference in abbreviations for that, I always kinda thought it was the same thing haha

Thanks to Ultra and the others who have contributed on this thread. Looks like we have the definitive battery topic. Definitely going to pick myself up a set of Nimh re-chargables.

Just an FYI to you guys.  I used NiCd batteries for like 10 years, then I switched over to NiMh because of the increased run time (larger maH rating).  Now I switched over to Sanyo Eneloops.  They are NiMh batteries BUT they are "low self discharge" (I've heard them called GEN2 NiMh).  That means that that they hold their charge a LOT longer if you leave them sitting around.  They are spec'd out at about 800maH in AAA size.

I have 5 sets of Eneloops (appx 800maH), 1 set of of the Tenergy (1000maH) from TCSS, and a few bags of Energizer Ultimate Lithiums (appx 1200maH).  I use the Eneloops 99% of the time in my sabers.  I've hear people say that the Lithium Ultimates can change the blade color of the RGB mixes, but I've used all kinds of batteries in them and cant tell any color difference at all with freshly charged batteries...

Sanyo Eneloops are the best rechargables made (1.2 Nominal Voltage)    ;)

Energizer Ultimate Lithium are the best disposable batteries made (1.5V Nominal Voltage)     ;)

If you're going for the Eneloops, Amazon has the BEST deals on them right now.

Don't even get me started about chargers LoL!!!  I went through about 10 different brands before I finally found one that met ALL of my needs...  Maha makes an AWESOME charger/conditioner that can do AA, AAA, C, or D rechargables.  It's like $100 but it's totally worth it if you charge stuff as much as I do.

Is this a pretty good deal as a starter pack type of thing?: Sanyo Eneloop Ni-MH Charger and 8 Rechargeable AA and 4 Rechargeable AAA Batteries, $28.65

Thinking of going for that.

Yeah, that's an awesome deal.  That's like $8 per set of (4) and then getting an almost free charger on top of it LoL.   Go for it man, you'll really be happy with them...

Keep in mind though, most batteries you'll use for UltraSabers are AAA (I think).

Cool, will do, thanks for the advice and good info. No worries, I have other devices that use AA,  so I'm sure I'll find a use for everything in the pack.

Well, if you're ordering from Amazon, pick up a few 8 packs of the AAA Eneloop too :)  If you buy enough stuff from them, you can get free shipping if all of your products qualify.  I think it's usually $50 of stuff to get free shipping.

I try to have two sets of batteries per saber, that way I'm never without.  As soon as they die, I slap them on the charger LoL.

I JUST got my sanyo eneloops and put them in my sabers...as predicted I'm temporarily seeing blue from my now SUPER BLAZING RED DOMINIX V1!! As with my Adegan Silver Steel Standard Issue, it resulted in a brighter more electric green color!! These batteries are as amazing as everyone here claimes them to be!! ^w^
