Title: Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and its influences.
Post by: Tal-Rin Onjo on June 01, 2014, 10:23:45 PM
So, I have been through all 6 seasons of The Clone Wars (some seasons and episodes more than once), and loved it! As it progressed I couldn't help but notice some of the influences the series drew from. Two particular episodes come to mind immediately for me. First, Season 2 Episode 17 "Bounty Hunters". Anakin, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan team up with four bounty hunters to save a farming village from the marauding band of pirates led by Hondo Onaka. This one is basically a short animated version of Akira Kurisawa's "Seven Samurai". This one stuck out due to George Lucas' love of Kurisawa's films, which he paid homage to, in minor ways, throughout the Star Wars saga. The second was Season 5 Episode 19 "To Catch a Jedi". This one emulated "The Fugitive". The only real connection I can think of between the two is Harrison Ford. In both episodes the did a great job of taking amazing and classic movies and fitting the basic storylines of each into the Star Wars universe. 'm fairly sure they likely did this a few times throught the run of the series, and that these aren't the only two isolated instances. Can anyone else point out other influences I might have missed?

I haven't watched all of it (probably less than half of it, if we're being completely honest), but I'm pretty sure the Zillo beast was influenced by Godzilla.

Very true. Also following that line of thought.... since they captured it and brought it back to Coruscant it could also be based off of King Kong as well.

There was a "Wizard of Oz" themed episode that was about 3P0 & R2. Didn't like that one. Then again I don't really like 3P0's episodes, though R2 has a few good ones.

The malevolence story arc and Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode – "Cat and Mouse"  were inspired by the ship battles in ww2
