Title: "Premium" Bane Review Post by: Darth Caugnien on August 01, 2011, 04:48:31 AM Hello all, I am very new here, so hopefully I do this right! I just recently recieved my first order from US, and I must say it is the finest I have ever created (haha Lama Su reference). I happened to have a large chunk o' change I had been saving for several months, and decided to take my US order to the fullest extent possible. This manifested in me ordering an RGB Bane with Obsidian sound, Li-ion setup, illuminated AV switch, Ultraedge blade, and- BLADE RETENTION WRENCH INCLUDED!! haha, sorry I'm a bit silly sometimes. Anyway, sorry in advance for no pics or vid, I don't own any cameras, but perhaps I can add some if I could borrow a friend's or something. But I will be as visually descriptive as possible. I will start with the pommel and work my way to the blade.
So let's get started. The pommel is very nice, it compliments the rest of the hilt well. It also serves a secondary purpose, by acting as a very effective resonance chamber. It's about an inch deep, which is perfect for sabers- less than that and it sounds tinny, any more and it gets quieter. Next, the black grips. Again, very nice, not much to add to the description in Deep's vid. Now, the AV switch, I'm very happy I added. It adds a little flair to an otherwise very... utilitarian hilt! The only gripe I have is that the way it is mounted, it can be a bit wobbly, the way it's push fitted in the hole. Now, this could just be mine, I don't know, but it's very minor. Next, the RGB switches. One thing I was wondering about, and was very pleased with, was that the ignition sound does NOT play every time you switch the colors around. I forget why the thought ever popped in my head that it might be the case, but nevertheless, my worries were assuaged! Finally for the hilt, the emitter. I really like the flanged style, it provides a really good position to rest your top hand when swinging it around. And, the retentions screws are nice and effective- one holds the blade in the holder, one holds the holder in the hilt. Lastly, what we've all been waiting for- the blade! Despite what I've read some places, I think the Ultraedge compliments the RGB very well, but of course, this is very personal. I've had the thing for 6 days now, and I still don't know which color is my favorite! I think it's a 3 way tie between the cyan (Arctic Blue), purple (Violet Amethyst), and red. Anyway, All colors are complimented very well by the Ultraedge (which btw is a mid grade) and extremely even and bright. Now, the sound. I can't say enough about the Obsidian SB, it is just fantastic. One thing I think people tend to overlook is the fact that this baby has digital sensors. This might not mean much when read on a screen, but trust me, when it's actually in your hands, it actually feels like a real lightsaber! (Not that I would know how that would feel haha). Plus, the fact that the ignition is a Luke ROTJ ignition, and that a Darth Maul swing sound(s) are featured, it's like it was tailormade for me! Having just royally screwed up a DIY saber project recently ( short circuiting unprotected Li-ion cells AND alkaline cells= not fun), I was a bit nervous to take out the batteries and charge them. However, I should have never felt this way because the process is a breeze. Just literally unscrew the pommel, pop out batteries, pop in charger, wait for green light, pop in saber and enjoy! In short, I am very, very pleased with my recent transaction with US for making my dream come true! Of course, anything I haven't covered, please feel free to ask about and I will try to answer! Got my spare batteries yesterday, charged 'em up and fed the Beast today with 'em lol, worked out great! I figured this way, I'll never have to wait on charging batteries, I can just swap out fresh batteries while I wait for the dead ones to charge 8) Title: Re: "Premium" Bane Review Post by: padawanjohn on August 12, 2011, 05:48:24 PM im in love with how awesome this saber is!

All the colors look equally awesome too. And while I'm personally not too fond about the 4 buttons, for some reason it really fits on the Bane :) Title: Re: "Premium" Bane Review Post by: Darth Caugnien on August 13, 2011, 05:40:02 AM Why thank you both! Yea, I think the 4 buttons work on such a long hilt.
Title: Re: "Premium" Bane Review Post by: Darth Morttas on August 13, 2011, 11:21:30 AM Nice choice! I'm really looking forward to getting one with sound, and this helped. However, the RGB is supposed to have seven different colors. What is the seventh?

Title: Re: "Premium" Bane Review Post by: Master Nero Attoru on August 30, 2011, 07:16:23 PM Thanks guys! I was very impressed with my first US purchase. I hope to get a simple costume from twinroses to go along with it in time for Long Beach Comic Con in October... More to come on that! ;) Do it! Twin Roses is awesome. You better get something in if you haven't already though, they're cutting off orders so they can get the ones they have done before Halloween! If by "simple" you mean something pretty standard (the stuff they have standard on their site) then you can probably get that though. Sorry for the thread jack... to get it back on topic I'll say that the Bane is friggin sweet, I'd love to own one! Title: Re: "Premium" Bane Review Post by: Darth Caugnien on August 30, 2011, 07:22:42 PM Hah no worries on the 'jack, I kind of started it anyhow. And yea, I'm just gonna go with the black crinkle cotton complete set. They only have two left tho... and I hafta wait till the tenth of Sep. to order. Do you think that'll be ok?

And yea, I'm just gonna go with the black crinkle cotton complete set. They only have two left tho... and I hafta wait till the tenth of Sep. to order. Do you think that'll be ok? I'm not sure honestly. I don't really have a gauge of how fast their standard stuff goes, sorry. If it were me, I would get it as soon as possible but the tenth of September isn't that far off I guess. If you REALLY can't get it til then and they run out, you can always get creative - I'm actually throwing together some ideas for my friend's outfit, really you can use a dyed martial arts uniform as the tunic with self-made tabards and obi or something. If you have any other Twin Roses questions feel free to PM me, I have their stuff and love it. Title: Re: "Premium" Bane Review Post by: Darth Caugnien on August 30, 2011, 07:32:01 PM Ok, sweet! Might just have to hit you up on that. And that's a good idea about the martial arts robe. It seems pretty simple to make.
Title: Re: "Premium" Bane Review Post by: grave13 on September 15, 2011, 05:59:31 AM I can't wait to get this saber. I got a car payment to make on my next check. Then the last check out of this month is going all to ordering my own bane

Then the last check out of this month is going all to ordering my own bane Niiice! Be sure to post a review of it when you get your hands on it! After you play with it, of course! :P Title: Re: "Premium" Bane Review Post by: Qui-Tom Helms on October 03, 2011, 03:39:19 PM Wow! I have the regular Bane in BR. It's 13 inches long, and it's huge, the additional buttons must add about three inches to the total length of the hilt.
Title: Re: "Premium" Bane Review Post by: Zren Tobas on October 13, 2011, 10:37:45 PM Nice saber. The violet and blue button is actually what I'm wanting to do to my Bane when I order it next month. :D The Bane actually doesn't look that big in person then. I was thinking the Bane was a hefty saber. How is spinning the Bane in person? Thats all I really do with my sabers is spin them, I don't fight with them that much unless my bro wants to join in. xp

I gotta get a couple pics up of me with my bro's Bane. Not only is it 13", but it's got some weight to it. That said, spinning is actually surprisingly easy. It's actually rather balanced - I think it's because the hilt is so long that the weight of it counterbalances the blade nicely. I use a 36" blade if that helps. |
