Title: Obsidian V4 Review and Quick Guide [With Pics]
Post by: Darth Zephyrus on April 01, 2015, 03:52:04 AM
Hey Saberforum! Finally managed to sit down with my V4 Menace staff and get to programming it. I Cannot overstate how much better this new launcher is, and how easy to use the V4 board is. The new V4 allows you to easily switch sound effects on the fly, all with the main button. Simply hold the activation switch as you turn on your saber, and you can toggle between sound banks by pressing the button. Once you find a sound bank you want, hold the switch down again to confirm. Thats it! It's an incredibly easy system, but it makes others green with envy when you show it off.

As for the launcher, I've taken the liberty of taking screenshots of it for those of you who either haven't downloaded it, or have the V4 Board.

Those of you who have any saber with sound are probably aware of how to connect it to your computer, but for those who are new, its as simple as unscrewing the pommel and plugging in a USB cable. Fire up the program and it should connect instantly, and you'll be greeted with your settings screen:

Hitting the "Format Memory" button will take you to another screen where you can erase your sound banks. On a V4 board, this will allow you to set how many banks you want, as well as control how much memory they use. Useful if you have larger sound fonts.

Clicking "Sounds Wizard" takes you to your soundbank selection.

This part of the program is very user friendly. Simply select the soundbank you want to change, and it will walk you through setting it up. I have some sound fonts for my "Other Guys" saber, and these fonts will work with the new V4.

Certain sound affects can have multiple files, such as motion and swings. You can easily set up to 12 different sound files for these. When your donw, it will ask you to confirm your settings, and allow you to name your soundbank and save it as a preset.

And thats it! This new launcher is a massive improvement on the older program, and it takes out a lot of the hassle that similar products have when changing fonts. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a little extra in their sabers. If you would like to know about anything I haven't touched on, feel free to ask me, and I'll try to answer as best I can.

This looks like it will be really useful when I inevitably get a v4 board.
I'm already chomping at the bit for one.

Point!
