Jedi Nox beat me to posting cast info - nicely done! - but I had to highlight this one for a couple reasons.

First - has anyone heard who he is playing? If you hear any rumors, please post here!

I am crossing my fingers he may possibly be an existing character from the Star Wars universe rumored to be in it; I couldn't imagine who could play that role well & figured the rumor was BS - but the second I heard he was in it - it clicked for me.

I could see Mads Mikkelsen putting together a decent live action take of - Cad Bane.

It wouldn't be just like Clone Wars - but I can see it.

(I'm sure he'll just be some Empire stooge, but I can dream.)



Second - he is one of my favorite actors working today.  I enjoyed his Bond Villain and his take on Hannibal Lecter is just mind blowing.  Shame that show got canceled - one of the most ambitious & great shows of the last 10 years.

And I told him myself - I expected to HATE it; I said I expected it to be the lowest common denominator police procedural with Hannibal in it.

But boy, they swung for the fences.

And yes - that means I met him at a Con and he was awesome.  If you haven't seen the Bond movie 'Casino Royale' you won't get this reference - but he happily agreed not only to take a pic with me - but do the "chip flip" trick he did during the poker scenes with my Casino Royale chip props for the pic.  And apologized for sucking at it because he hadn't practiced since the filming.  Nicest actor I have personally met.  :)

Not really interested in Rouge One but I can admit it has a great cast.  Shame Yen isn't going to be a Lightsaber wielder though.   Mads would have made a great Thrawn if he had been kept canon I think..him or Jason Issacs.

Rouge One is a whole different genre of film......

Would love to see Cad Bane brought to the big screen.

Holy crap, YES!  I would LOVE to see Cad Bane on the big screen!  He's one of my favorite side characters.

Another bit of news is that Alan Tudyk of Firefly fame was also cast.  ;D

Oh yeah, my favorite Bond of all time. Can't wait for Spectre to open up.

But tell me, what is this Rogue One I keep hearing about?


I was kind of pegging Cumberbatch for Thrawn. From what little I know of the character, he is a military genius. And given how well Benedict plays men of intelligence, not to mention the similar facial features (minus the blue skin of course), I would say he was a shoe in for Thrawn.


And I know Tudyk from way more than just Firefly.

In a nutshell- in the Odd years we're getting a Trilogy movie starting this December.

In the Even years - we're getting a stand alone story.

The first of these will be Rogue One - basically about the Rebel Unit that steals the plans for the first Death Star, just before the start of A New Hope.

The word is we are getting a very different Star Wars movie - I've heard it described as Blackhawk Down set in the Star Wars Universe.

I'm personally psyched for it - I think there are plenty great stories to be told and the "standalone" format allows them to write the best script possible without having to think 12 moves ahead.  All we know about that event is it - it happened.  (I have no knowledge of the EU other than the Darth Bane Trilogy, so I'm not burdened by that. If there is a book about the Death Star plans being stolen, I am unaware.)

Other people- not so crazy about this idea in general, meaning the Anthology movies.

You officially have my attention. It will be nice not to have to rely on trilogies to get a new SW movie. Gives me new hope that depending on the success of my novel, that it may get made into a stand alone movie of awesomeness. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Apparently he (Mikkelsen) told a Danish newspaper that he is NOT a bad guy and the character is important, but that is all he will say.

Interesting!

Evidently he is a playing a character named "Galen".

(I seriously doubt it's that Galen.)

Galen is probably the equivalent of John in the SW universe.
