Title: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: Smokiewan on January 11, 2011, 03:33:20 AM Hi all.
For a few weeks now, my oppressor has been out of commission. I bought it quite some time ago from Chewbacca on the FX-Sabers forums. It was a stunt that Chewie had converted to have sound, but the modification of the saber meant it had a speaker glued to a battery pack. It also had a flashing LED in the pommel for *bling*. After only owning it for a good few months, the pommel LED broke when the saber got knocked off its stand. Also, the battery pack now had a crack in it. I removed the busted LED and taped the battery pack back together. The saber went on for a long time as the top saber in my possession, until the batteries died. When I removed the tape to change the batteries, the battery pack couldn't hold shape any longer. I went to TCSS and bought a new battery/speaker combo pack, some wire, and a bunch of shrink tubing. I started to remove the broken pieces and realized that the oppressor is a tight son of a gun. Still, I told myself that it would be possible. In that moment of dissassembly, I got a call from my father. My mother had been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Every day since I got that news, I have been spending whatever time I can find with my mom. I take her to her treatments, appointments, and wherever else she needs to go. Between work, household chores, and the hour commute it takes to get to her, I have absolutely no time for my hobby and my interests. This is why I am making a plea to Ultrasabers. Is there any way you folks can rebuild my oppressor? I have the parts and I'd be more than happy to pay some kind of fee. I just really miss it. C.A.T.S. (Chewbacca's Auto Trim Special), as I have named it, is the saber I hold when I'm in need of cheering up (it's silly, I know) but with it out of commission, I feel at a loss. I know that it has been void of its warranty even before I owned it, but I would take it as a personal favor and a sign of great generosity if you would help me. Thank you Ultrasabers, for hearing my plea. Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: Ultra on January 11, 2011, 03:55:09 AM Yeah, dude, I can help you out with that. Not as an official Ultra Sabers project, but just as me, Alex, helping out a friend who needs it. Ship it to the shop and include a detailed note stating everything you need done and I'll work on it for you personally.
Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: Kaiser Xander on January 11, 2011, 04:07:42 AM Smokiewan - I sincerely hope your mother gets better and that life in general improves for you. Hang in there. :)
Ultra - yet more proof that you are an outstanding human being. Thanks for being here, and being you. Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: Smokiewan on January 11, 2011, 04:15:40 AM Wow.
Thank you Alex. You have no idea what this means to me. And thank you Kaiser. I hope so too. I'll ship it out as soon as I can find some time. Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Alex, if for some reason you get bogged down , I can also help out Smokie, too. Good of you to offer, man. Smokie, I wish your mother the best and pray for her recovery. Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: ThreadJack on January 17, 2011, 03:37:13 PM Here's hoping you mother gets better Smokie.
And Ultra I think we should link this to some of the haters on "The Old Forum." Just to prove to them that you in fact are not a jerk. Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: Smokiewan on January 17, 2011, 06:41:23 PM Thank you all for such kind thoughts.
I love the forums, both old and new, and I would never want this situation to start anything negative. Quick update for those interested. My mother is combating treatment like a jedi battling a sith. Third treatment in. She has lost her hair (as is expected) but is in such good spirits, she rocks the troll hair sunhat I got her. (http://i794.photobucket.com/albums/yy226/smokiewan/AdultVisorBlackTrimwithBrownHair.jpg) She's really doing a great job and I'm über proud of her. I would like to say thanks again to Alex for the offer. You're forum family to me, and one of the many reasons I LOVE this community! The world could really benefit if they took a page or two from these pages.[/crazy forum patiotism] Anyway, I just grabbed a box from work yesterday and it's the perfect size, so I'll be sending it off to you payday(Fri.) as quick as post allows. I assume I send it to the addy listed on the site.... seems the logical choice... ;D Thank you to Caine as well, for offering your time. If Alex needs/prefers to send it to you, I have no problem with that. It would be an honor to have a sensei work on my blade. Just post here and I'll check before I send it off , to change destinations. Anyway, I'm off to work. Have a good day :) Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: Ultra on January 17, 2011, 09:33:25 PM Just send it to us in San Jose. Caine lives just around the corner from me ;D. If I need his help, he's not far.
I love that your Mom rocks the troll hair hat. Your Mom is cooler than a penguin on an iceberg! Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: ThreadJack on January 17, 2011, 09:46:14 PM That is definitely awesome! I bet she looks stylish in that hat. ;D

Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: Smokiewan on February 04, 2011, 04:54:04 AM It looks and sounds great Alex!
Quick mom update: Although it isn't for sure just yet, treatment seems to be kicking the cancer's proverbial butt! I haven't seen my mother in such active spirits in a long time, and the doctors are all impressed with how she's carrying about. My hand eagerly awaits its reunion. Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: ThreadJack on February 04, 2011, 04:56:45 AM That's good to hear Smokie! Tell your mom we're rooting for her!
Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: LordDesann on February 04, 2011, 01:25:59 PM This is one thing that I completely love about Ultrasabers, the customer service is 10/10, after reading so many reviews from other sites (including the «Old Forum») The reviews on customer services are always 9/10 or 10/10, and seeing how dedicated Ultra and his staff is for customer satisfaction.......it makes me smile. ;D
Smokiewan.....I wish your mother the best ;D, remember...humor is the best medicine. :D Thumb's up Ultra! Nice job on the saber! Me likey like! :) Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Good luck with the "Oppressor" Smokiewan :) and may the best wishes come to your mum..
Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: Smokiewan on March 19, 2011, 05:06:41 PM To answer the question in the thread title, YES THEY CAN!!!
For a month now, my Oppressor has been home and it is awesome. Just as loud as before and just as bright. The only downside to this whole ordeal is the inability to switch pommels, which isn't really an issue but I now have a TCSS pommel that is currently not in use and the stock pommel that US provided has to be super tight and then loosened a smidge in order to work. I'm still okay with that as it not only works as a sort of kill key, but I'm not duelling with it anymore. "CATS" has been through a lot. Within regards to my mother, she is done chemo treatment and it looks as though she doesn't need to go for another round. She goes for what is called a PIP SCAN today. It somehow measures her energy and other medical stuff. All I know is she seems to be cancer free. WOOHOO!!! Way to kick cancer's proverbial butt, Mom!!! Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: Ultra on March 19, 2011, 10:41:57 PM Hey Smokie, if you don't mind, send me the hilt of your Oppressor when you also send me the Wraith. I want to get those MHS pommels to work and just make it cooler all around. The exterior won't be changed. This would give me an opportunity to field test some ideas, so I'd appreciate it :)
Title: Re: Can US fix my oppressor? Post by: Smokiewan on March 20, 2011, 04:25:32 AM Sure thing! Anything I can do to help. ;)
It's funny. I was actually just thinking that the box I got was too big, but now it's perfect size again. :D |
