Title: You ain't never seen a Flamberge like this... Post by: shade_1313 on December 13, 2015, 03:40:35 AM Well, you MIGHT have. But, while I've seen the idea thrown around before, I've never actually seen it done before:
(http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k83/shade_1313/IMG_03381_zps0zkpzovy.jpg) What a lovely Bane's Heart style magenta. (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k83/shade_1313/IMG_03391_zpsnfyj0vf5.jpg) The classic red. Picture distorts it a little, but that's pure red LED on the main blade, just like a BR saber. (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k83/shade_1313/IMG_03401_zpsuh2p52jg.jpg) Man, I wish purples photographed better. This one is VERY DVA looking. (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k83/shade_1313/IMG_03421_zpsyjw0wk35.jpg) Pure GB blue. (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k83/shade_1313/IMG_03411_zpsrcjdbrmx.jpg) A really, really bright yellowish-green. (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k83/shade_1313/IMG_03431_zpsyywpirfb.jpg) And, in person, this is as dead on a match for my EG Apprentice V4's blade as you could ask for. This, saber friends, is a beautiful work of lightsaber art. A Flamberge V2 with Emerald driver, V4 sound, and AS side blades...coupled with LEE filters, I have a world of choices for my crossguard saber. Not every filter works, though. Some are simply too dark, some are way too light, and some...well, you just have a hard time matching hue and brightness to a usable standard. Orange and Yellow, for example, are giving me a hard time, but I haven't done more than one of each color of filter yet, it takes time to cut the blasted things out, then play around in the launcher to try to match it. Haven't yet found the filter to match straight up CG yet, but I will, or close enough. I'll be testing and refining some more in the coming days, and adding more pics, as well as my settings for each filter that I find a usable setting to match. Love this thing. I can be Jedi, I can be Sith, I can be every shade or nuance between, too. Title: Re: You ain't never seen a Flamberge like this... I considered buying this saber, but for me it is so blasted bulky and heavy. Yes I know that Lady J has one similar in the Renegade. I bought two different Kylo Ren plastic sound sabers and that will have to do. I'm painting them to look more metallic.
Thanks for displaying in so many colors. +1 point. 8) Title: Re: You ain't never seen a Flamberge like this... Post by: Locutis on December 13, 2015, 05:47:30 AM It takes time to cut the blasted things out Buy a one inch hole punch. Much easier. Title: Re: You ain't never seen a Flamberge like this... Post by: hazard502 on December 13, 2015, 06:26:03 AM I haven't seen the variety AS side blades can provide with an emerald main blade and you have proven the concept quite nicely. In pics the side blades mate up very well to the main and I can imagine the work that went into fine tuning the colors.
Point well earned...it looks so good in every color, which is the magic of a beautiful black hilt with silver accents. Title: Re: You ain't never seen a Flamberge like this... Post by: Prowl 1701 on December 13, 2015, 07:13:26 AM BH looks good on that flamberge, you get a point, sir!

A few answers and further thoughts: I do have a 1" hole punch, but it doesn't cut perfectly most of the time, and I am kind of unsatisfied with the fit, and wanted a little bigger circle, so I got a 1.5" punch and trim it down slightly from there. I agree that it looks spectacular with the BH setup, although my first priority was finding a setting and filters to get me my two favorite US colors, EG and DVA. I will be using the BH at times, because it IS so very nice. When I was first starting to plan to actually buy the Flamberge V2 I'd been lusting for ever since it was released, my goal was an EG saber. It didn't take long to realize that only the single LED colors are available for the side blades, I'm sure due to power consumption. So, I could get the EG main blade and AS sides HOPE that I could get a match with the filters, but that seemed an iffy way to approach one of the higher priced sabers. Then, I realized a few things. The side blades are well suited to filters or color discs, as they're short, and can stand a little dimming better than a long AS blade. I also realized that I don't need to set a main blade color and hope for the best with filter matching, the better approach is to find a filter that gives me a color I like, and then use the vastly more flexible Emerald setup to match the main blade to the sides. There is, though, a certain irony to NOT being able to do an all AS saber...unless I want my battery life to be around five minutes, at any rate, since my W channel on the saber goes to the side blades, and I therefore don't have a white LED in the mix for the main blade. But, boy do I have a huge amount of awesome colors I CAN do. |
