Title: Pyrestone or Red?
Post by: RLYHYPERGUY on September 09, 2011, 02:04:21 AM
Okay, so I have an old Phantom V1, but only one have is still working lol. This particular half is in green, but I also have a green Archon and I've been wanting to get the Phantom changed. I'm torn between Pyrestone and Blazing Red and I was wondering if anyone could help me with this decision.  :)

Pyrestone!!!

I love my orange saber, not a big fan of red.

If you have a character think about what kind of character they are. ;D

preystone is a dark orange while red is well red. i love preystone but thats my opinion. it would be cool to see if can get a custom color like a dark red.

My wife just asked me about that because her favorite color is burgundy.

Like a deep blood red. She likes the VA but it's too pink for her and she has something against pink. lol

I am thinking of my character actually! Actually several. I like to use my sabers for multiple characters and change the color using filters (I can get a wonderful red or blue with my violet saber!) I really want to see what a full brightness red blade would be like... but Pyrestone is very appealing also since it can be both a Jedi and Sith color (I love variety!) My mind isn't really made up haha. Maybe I could get a red color using a filter and Pyrestone? Ugh decisions, decisions!!

I'll have to agree with the "Kind of character" you want be...or what color ressonates with you. For me, it was Sunrider's Destiny. It just "spoke" to me more than the norm traditional colors. Take a look at those colors and find one that speaks to you, or represents you best.

I think Pyrestone does appeal to me more than Red since I love unique colors... ugh why is this so hard?! I am leaning towards Pyrestone but I'm not quite convinced yet.

Has anyone actively toyed around with a silver blade and just using filters? I've heard LEE filters mentioned, but I haven't seen what they look like or any end results from combining them with an LED?

Look at it like this: Even if you were a Sith would you really want a red saber. I don't want to hate on the Sith but they all have red sabers.

I got Orange because I love the Jedi but can appreciate the Sith. My character walks that line, a guess you'd say a grey Jedi but I'd say a sentinel connected with the Dark Side. Using Vapaad and so forth.

Sorry to go off topic but hope this helps you decide.

Here is a link to a good example of the filters.

@ Kham-Ryn Kurlos: That definitely is a good point. I do have my Dark Side tendencies but for the most part I am a Light Sider. I think I'll go with Pyrestone.  :)

Pyrestone is a good choice, very unique.  Only a few here who really use it.  Honestly the Blazing Red is VERY nice, I have it myself and I love it (then again, red is my favorite color).  You can't really go wrong either way.

Good luck with your choice!

Out of curiosity which one would you choose? Acceptable ansers are "Pyrestone" and "Red."   :P

I would choose red myself, but as I said it's a personal preference.  YOU are the only one who can decide for yourself, which one appeals to you more?

Pyrestone of course! I was just wondering. Besides, I don't want to fully associate myself with those Sith amputees!

Now now, I'm a Jedi and I use a red saber. Color does not determine alignment. 8)

Well, my vote is for Pyrestone, as that's what I recently ordered for my Sith. This pic just reaffirms my choice! That's one beautiful saber.

Pyerstone!!!!

I'm a Sith and a traditionalist so all my sabers are blazing red in fact when my next order arrives from the guys here at US, I will be purchasing yet another, this time an Anakin ROTS conversion from US in blazing red (alternate universe what if Lord Vader won on mustafar saber! lol).

In my own little close-minded world there is no such thing as a "grey jedi", I mean jeeez pick a side already!  ;D

And I am looking forward to doing a large and comprehensive review of the 3 sabers I have purchased from US in the last 2 months, once my latest beauty arrives.

I believe the same thing! I just think red is too "standard."

I hear ya there. It's unique if you're a Jedi, but if you're a Sith, not so much.

I was actually just thinking how I might use blue as my Sith color.  The Guardian Blue gives such a nice deep cold blue, it would be perfect in a Sith hilt... kind of reminiscent of Anakin from ROTS.

Any more the color of your blade doesn't reflect your alignment and I'm ok with that!  I think it brings a new and fun element to meeting your "enemies"  :D

Exactly! A Jedi could go undercover as a Sith! Or vice versa!

Anyway, since this topic has served its purpose I'm going to lock it. I will, however, be starting a new topic about saber colors! Keep your eyes open!

Title: Re: Pyrestone or Red? Update: Broken Saber.
Post by: RLYHYPERGUY on September 13, 2011, 06:13:12 PM
I have an update on the saber I wanted to change: it broke.

You see, in the old PVC Ultrasabers there is a "holder" that is drilled into the emitter to house the retention screw. That "holder" has now completely made its way through the PVC and now I have no way of retaining a blade. This isn't the first time this has happened though; it also happened on my Adegan Silver Dominix V1 (the other half of my Phantom V1.) Let me just say this: I'm very disappointed. I've also had problems with my Liberator where the retention screw hole lost its threads, luckily I was able to fix that by drilling and tapping a new hole. My point is that Ultrasabers are not as durable as they are said to be. I have invested a lot of money in these sabers and I hate to see it go to waste. Basically, I'm saying that I won't be buying any more Ultrasabers. I will still participate in this forum and help others in whatever way I can, but I will not be investing any more money in this hobby.

I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. I still love this company and I will support it in any way I can, but I will not support it financially. I sincerely hope that this company continues to do well.

That's very unfortunate, sorry to hear that.  I believe that's one of the reasons they have moved to metal sabers, that sort of thing would never happen with the aircraft aluminum they use to make the hilts - that "holder" is only there because threads in the PVC made to hold a retention screw wouldn't last very long.  I would HIGHLY recommend trying the new metal sabers, I'm sure they will not have that problem at all.  You can't really judge a company based on its outdated products - that would be like expressing frustration with Microsoft over Windows 98 not working.

Oh I know. I have some metal sabers and I do like them a lot. I'm just very frustrated because of the money I lost.

Yeah it is tragic when a saber has to be retired... how long did you have your staff?  I know some of those PVC hilts actually snap for people who are intense duelers... I personally have had my Dominix v1 for about two years and it's still going strong, seemingly indestructible (knock on wood!)

A bit over a year. I'm not a heavy dueler though, in fact I barely duel. I think it happened because of too much "unscrewing" if you know what I mean. Ugh.  :(
