Does anyone here read Comic Books?

Almost on a daily basis.

My wife (MJ) and I are huge fans of "Justice League", "Superman", and "Aquaman."

However, MJ was fiend for anything "Deadpool", "Doctor Strange", and "Doctor Fate" when I met her and still continues to this day; she is over the moon that her favorite characters are getting their own films.

I'm also a reader of comics, life has me behind on them right now though.
The only things I'm currently keeping up with are all the various Star Wars stories and Radioactive Spider Gwen.

Archie Andrews and Friends.  Some Star Wars and Dr. Who.  Generally I don't like the style and drawing of most of the animators out there.  Liking the simple clean lines of the older comics that didn't need to draw your attention into multi- sized frames to follow the story.

Lots of people really didn't like Spider-Gwen but I loved her! I really likes Thor Girl as well. However I am a huge DC fan and always have been.

You should definitely check out the new 52 reboot! They have released some great new titles! The current run on most of the mainstream heroes is really good! Captain Atom is an amazing Comic Book, it really shows you a version of Captain Atom that is only really grasping the full extent of his powers. Suicide Squad is good, however if you are looking for a villain/hero book where the characters are dancing between the lines of villainy and heroics, I would suggest Red Hood and Arsenal. There is currently two elseworld stories of the two biggest heroes in DC going on at the moment known as; Batman Europa and Superman: American Alien. Both are really good, I mean really good. The artwork is different per issue but so far no complaints from me. I also suggest Scott Snyders Superman Unchained and also Batman: Black Mirror it is hauntingly great at giving the reader a glimpse at the events leading up to A Death in The Family.

also MJ...Mary Jane...are you Peter Parker?

Greg Capullo is an incredible artist! I do suggest checking his artwork on the current Batman run!

New 52 Aquaman is what got my wife into the new 52.

Unfortunately, I am not Peter Parker, however my wife did legally change her name when we got married so that her initials would be MJ; her grandmothers middle name was Joan, so her name now reads Megan Joan.  ;D

That's so sweet man!

I suggest picking up Captain Atom New 52, it's good, the artwork is water coloring and it looks surprisingly well coloured.

I started collecting in 92' when I was 9.  My town didn't have a comic shop so Wal-Mart or the Grocery Store is where I got my issues.  My local book store didn't carry many at the time because the manger hate comic books and refused to keep them in stock.  I missed out on the initial run of Death of Superman because of that.  But a few years later a New manager took over and comics were now a main stay in the store.  My collection now stands around 1000 comics.  But very few modern.  IMO there aren't really a lot worth reading right now.  I do keep up to date on Star Wars as it is all canon now and I want to know whats happening.  I have been following the Masters of the Universe series as well.  A new on that caught my eye is Lois and Clark.  The premise is the Pre-Flashpoint Superman and Lois are living in secret in the New 52 universe with their son.

I've been reading comics since 1984 (still have my secret wars mini-series from back then). Am a big fan of the following:

Batman
Chew
The Boys
Fables

-and sporadically dip my toes in with-

Green Lantern
Spiderman
Justice League
Superman

Away from those I usually get TPB as it's easier for me to get thm that way. My collection is quite varied with the titles I have. I have stuff from Vertigo, Image, DC, Marvel, Dark Horse. I am very proud of my Amazing Spiderman issue 300 (first appearance of Venom) that I have signed by Stan Lee. Got a few other titles signed by artists/creators like Brian Bolland, Simon Bisley, George Perez, Mark Millar, David Lloyd, Bernie Wrightson and Neil Gaiman.

I've collecting comics for so long i was running out of space to store everything so i built two wooden cabinets out of reclaimed wood/unused pallets.

I do suggest picking up a few comics from the New 52 relaunch, I'm sure you'd be very much surprised.

Green Lantern is good, but I don't like him as much as other Characters. Kyle Reyner was a great GL.
Superman is so good!!
Justice League is pretty decent too.

I did like the Court of Owls batman storyline.
And I know there are some good new 52 storylines, but it's a case of finding the time to go buy them, hence me waiting for the TPBs (I prefer going to a comic shop than buying them online. support local businesses)

I think it's because of my age. I grew up with Hal Jordan as Green Lantern and Barry Allen as The Flash. Although, i LOVE the Green Lantern Corps. Awesome storylines.

Y'all need some Marvel love in all that...

been an avid reader since... uhm... forever.

I have almost all of the original Marvel GI Joe and Star Wars Comics, lots of X-Men, lots of Spiderman (various titles) Captain America, IronMan... pretty much was willing to give everyone a shot.

Never liked Rob Liefield's art style though...

Don't get me wrong, i love me some marvel. I just found it easier to mention what i'm currentk rewding rather than listing all the titles in my collection. If i did that we'd be here for hours! Lol

Speaking of Marvel I did start one today that I really liked, and am looking forward to the rest.  Old Man Logan.   It's about the Logan from the Dystopian future feature in the Original Old Man Logan run in present day (well 2015) and he is out for revenge against people who will wrong him...which includes Hulk.  and it gave us this awesomeness....

The problem with marvel is that nothing new is jumping out at me as if to say "this is amazing"

I do like Thor as a female though!

However; I think the Marvel Fandom mainly consist of the movie fans at the current moment in time. Most people only like Marvel because they've released some amazing movies.

If you ask a movie fan to try and describe a Marvel Comic book, they'll just describe a film. It's funny when they try and describe Iron Man 3....

Iron Man 3 was the worst Comic Book adaptation to of ever existed. It had two amazing story lines it could of explored more of, but it didn't and that annoyed me.

They had the Mandarin. He himself could of been a trilogy.

Then they had Extremis. That could of been a standalone film and could of been explained and used SO much better.

I hate Iron-Man three because it wasted two incredible story arcs to make one awful one.

Depends on the age of the person somewhat.  But agreed on Iron Man 3

Honestly, since the age of the MCU began, I really haven't picked up too many comics.

I'll read them at the bookstores and what not, but you're right, most seem to be following the films or the fanbase the films created...  Though I will admit, Deadpool actually looks like a proper Deadpool comic so far.

it's never too late to start collecting comics. personally, as there are so many titles i like and i don't have a chance to go to a comic book store weekly, i tend to get the trade paperbacks collecting all the stories in one or more volumes (like Batman: Court of Owls for instance). Trades are pretty easy to order from the comic book store. i know you can buy them online too, but support local business. and you can get great knowledge about upcoming titles by chatting with the people who work there.

I actually have all the dark horse alien, predator, alien vs predator, and termimator comics. you should also check out batman vs predtor and batman vs alien. those are really good too.

Dark horse did some amazing stuff in the 90s, which is when i seriously got into collecting. you can still buy those as TPBs now so look into it.

Write yourself a list, set yourself a monthly budget and there you go.
(FYI - my list has about 50 - 60 titles on it. everytime i buy stuff and shrink the list, i end up adding more stuff. a never-ending battle, which is what collecting is all about)

I read the first volume of The Flash, Green Lantern and Batman for the New 52. The Flash was probably the best. I just haven't had the time or money to buy more. I have a bag sets of Flash which I still haven't gotten around to readings.
I just find it hard to start.

There's no rush. Every great collection is made up over a period of years. I've been collecting since I was 7 years old. Sometimes I go 6 months without buying any though. It's line anything; if you really want to collect comics then it will happen.

In terms of where to start, what kind of storylines do you like? There are lots of comics out there there gave nothing to do with superheroes. Their stories are complex. And dark. Sometimes supernatural. Sometimes twisted. Lots of options out there.
