Title: She said yes! An Ultrasabers Proposal
Post by: Laethyl on February 11, 2016, 11:34:59 PM
TL;DR—Look! I proposed! With Ultrasabers :D

https://youtu.be/sQm00N94Fr0

Background:
My then-girlfriend and I started our relationship on many mutual interests. We're both programmers, we like similar foods... and we love Star Wars.

On our first date, I brought her a bouquet of red roses in a cheap red Darth Vader lightsaber hilt. She loved it, I still see the photo of that passed around from time to time.

When it came time to propose, of course it had to be special. But it wasn't until several rounds of (admittedly brilliant) ideas that I dreamed up hiding it in her saber.

Bunch of twist-ties later, and I'm an engaged man! The video explains most of it. I didn't plan any of it out, so my "choreography" is pretty bad! But the whole goal was to suck a little and eventually have HER "put me on one knee"! Which as you can see, worked perhaps a little too well. Given the lower light, she thought the weird shiny thing in her saber was a sign it was broken! She had no idea what I was trying to do haha. Fortunately, the Prophecy's hilt cap lets you very much see anything that might be attached to the speaker.

Oh, and for the sharp observer... yes, the tip did pop off, it is already glued back on and happy :)

Thank you Ultrasabers!

Lightsabers:
-Consular, Dark Violet Amethyst LED & 36" Midgrade blade
-Prophecy v3, Consular Green LED & 32" Midgrade blade

How awesome...congratulations!  Best proposal ever.  She is a lucky lady...if only I had a boyfriend like this!

A point for that! (I am assuming LS based on your saber...if that's wrong, I can correct it.)

It works because they're all set up for their marriage - he got a pretty good idea in that saber fight of how terrifying a foe she can be ;)  There's just something about ladies, they don't seem to hold back in duels (my wife is the same way lol)

Thanks so much guys! It's been so awesome to have the sabers, they put joy and smiles onto the faces of full-grown adults like nothing else I've ever seen.

Worth every penny. Will update with pics after the wedding! We will no-doubt cook up some way to include them.

While this is military, and you may not want to do anything like this if you feel there are any current or former service members in the family or wedding party who might not be cool with it, this could well provide a starting point for ideas if you do want to find a way to incorporate your lightsabers into the wedding: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saber_arch

Did you use midgrade or heavygrade sabers?

Actually did that at my wedding, with my groomsmen (the swords were their gifts).  Worked very well, and if you can do it with lightsabers I would imagine that would be neat too.

Was actually thinking of sabers as gifts, actually... it could get pricey, but then again I imagine swords would be more so!

I thought it would be, but I ended up finding some good prices on some pretty solid swords on Kult of Athena.  With how much the groomsmen end up helping, they're usually worth it ;)

They're about the same, actually. Less, if you buy cheap.

My issue was that I'm a sword snob, so most of the options I wanted were $150+ a piece.  Finally found some that I felt were adequate for around $50 a piece (which is crazy)

Contact US.  People have done this in the past, giving sabers as groomsman (and in a couple of cases maids as well) gifts, and they've been able to work something out on the pricing.  Given how busy they are, I'm not sure if they can, or will, do that now, but it's worth asking.

Oh, and congratulations. :D
