Title: Archon V3 before and after Post by: jhazard on March 04, 2016, 08:40:09 PM Well, just the "before" right now. Inspired by PITT FORCE FIVE's Obi conversion, I purchased this with the intent of converting it into an Obi-Wan ANH but the more I learn about the Luke and Obi-Wan sabers, I'm thinking this will go more towards the Luke V2, with perhaps a couple Obi-Wan elements.
For now, there's a matte black vinyl wrap on the lower handle, with a vintage and "naturally" weathered Graflex clamp. The clamp card I made with some gold foil cut vinyl, clear pvc, a layer of frosted vinyl on the back side, with a layer of green on the bottom. Not perfect, but I like how the gold shines :) This weekend, the body will get the full weather treatment. The grenade section will become mostly black, and I have stencils for the handle and emitter parts. Will post up as I make some progress. By the way, I'm stoked on the Archon design, and the quality is awesome. Its not bad for spinning or practice, but I think I'll have to hold back from dueling. Probably have to get a Prophecy or Menace for that. So many sabers.... I know its not canon anymore but still

I know its not canon anymore but still Thanks, lol. At first, I was going to just go all black and be all dark Luke like... So after my next build, I'll have to come back and change to Green. Can't wait to see what else you do?

I've just placed my order for the Archon v3.1. I've been telling myself I'll get the clamp for it after I get the saber, just to make it more visually accurate to ROTJ. Does the clamp fit snug enough that it doesn't move around? Is there any drilling involved or anything just to add the clamp?
Title: Re: Post by: jhazard on March 07, 2016, 04:43:08 AM Thanks!
The clamp has 4 tabs you'll need to file/grind down to make them smooth. After that - it's going to be a bit on the small side diameter-wise. A real Graflex is about 1.5", the Archon body is just slightly wider. So the lever that fastens the clamp will need ....."work". It'll make more sense when you have the clamp, just needs a little tweaking. I drilled and tapped holes in the side to attach the resistors, but they are not necessary to secure the clamp. I'm enjoying watching the process unfold.

Fairly satisfied with the weathering, in spite of a huge mistake (used a Rustoleum version of plasticote for my blacks, hence the peeling edges - grrr). I'll live with it for now. Not sure if I'll weather the "grenade" section or not... maybe when the lever arrives.
Would like to put a larger d-ring in, but not sure I can make the hole any larger. Since I went with a BR blade for the build, I made a red card for the clamp. Also drilled, tapped and inserted the transistors. That was nerve-wracking, but I dig them.
