Hello!  I am trying to put together an awesome female Sith costume.  I'm a tough chick who doesn't take anything from anyone, unless it's by force.  So far, this is my costume.  Any advice on what else to do or anything to do differently I'd very much appreciate. This is my first time doing anything with a costume that isn't for Halloween.  Thanks in advance!!

Hi there. You seem to have a good basis for your costume there.

You may want to look into a different pair of boots, as heels aren't really a thing in the SW universe.

What kind of Sith are you? Sith Lord? Sith assassin? Sith inquisitor?

Will you be wearing a robe? What about gloves?

Surcoat, tabards and obi? (Yes or no)

Does your character have a backstory, as that could help you narrow down the final look.

Sorry for all the questions. These are things I asked myself when I was designing my costume. I'm sure if you saw it, but there is a cosplay guide to help newbies out. It might be of use to you.

I was thinking different footwear mostly because I don't know if I'd be able to pull off "tough chick" while teetering in those boots! What kind of footwear should I think about?  I've got a pair of arm bracers coming, I will also be investing in a hooded robe - as soon as I can find one that fits the picture in my head.  Lord Rapine says I should at the very least get a belt to hold my saber so I'll be looking into that as well but I'm worried anything else (tabards, obi, etc.) might not suit and would just look funny on top of a corset.  What do you think?  My backstory is that I was wronged by a man and now I will lure them to their demise, if it so fits my purpose - I will never be messed with again.  That's all I have so far!

I would definitely think balance would be an issue in those heels.  I assume your character is intended to engage in lightsaber combat?  If so, balance and maneuverability are both sacrificed with those.  At the very least, a thicker heel would give you better balance.

Working a "standard" tabard into that outfit...I'm not sure how I would do it, but then I am a bit more of a utilitarian Knight of Ren kind of girl, meaning that practicality and comfort tend to trump most other considerations.

The only thing that comes to my mind if you ever wanted to invest in it as an option...I have an image in my head right now whereby the top you have would flow into a long robe bottom that would resemble Darth Revan. You would (IMO) also pick up the opportunity to get more practical footwear with a long robe.  The rings and chains look would probably be a suitable match to the corset top.  BUT!  This is YOUR costume, your vision, and like I said, I'm a bit more Knight of Ren in what I would be comfortable wearing.  You need to do what feels right to you :)

Thanks for the advice!  I've been looking around and I'm interested in a longer skirt and a shirt to go under the corset.  I don't want to pop out if I'm fighting! I might scrap the corset completely and just go for the tunic which would allow me many more options for tabards, obi etc.  I'm still looking!  Getting more and more excited.

Considering that I am way too small up top for a corset, I wouldn't know anything about that particular issue. ;)

But then it sounds like you have a lot of different looks in mind--so again, it's about what feels right to you. :)

So with the help of Lord Rapine, I've decided on a long ready for battle skirt, a tunic, leather armour (arm bracers, a pauldron-type shoulder covering and a tasset belt as well as either a different type of corset/kidney belt or belt/obi) and a cape.  It has the same feel as my first attempt but is way more comfortable and practical.  I'm super excited.  Going for more of a Sith Inquisitor - Sorceress character.

Oh, careful how much credit you give to me.  I'm very new to this myself.

I will say that we have complimentary tastes, and desire to look beyond amazing...

Holy fast shipping!  I ordered some pieces for my new, more appropriate, outfit two days ago and they arrived today!  Now I just need to get a belt and some kind of cape/robe and order my armor (I already know which ones I want!).  Saber has already been ordered, and I successfully managed to change my ordered blade colour to Violet Amethyst to more appropriately represent a Sith Inquisitor.  Here's a picture of my new outfit so far (and I love it!)

That looks awesome. Cannot wait to see the whole thing put together. In terms of s belt, may I suggest looking on Etsy. There are a lot of people on there selling Star Wars inspired belts that are quite affordable.

In terms of robes, there are a few options available.

Very nice. Why not a black top though? :P And will those buttons be hidden somehow? Looks good so far though. Also can't wait to see the whole thing put together. For my updated Sith I finally found a graduation gown to use as an inner tunic I was searching for forever and it did the look perfect of how I wanted. Got me an outer tunic from largemouth on amazon and with the gown made a cool collar look

I'm still new so I don't know what I did wrong with the pics, sorry! I'll find help and try to repost them.  For the buttons, I think after I put the belt/obi on most of them will be covered and if it doesn't look right I'll figure  a way to cover them.  And for the tunic, I didn't want to be completely in black.  Plus, with the pauldrons and the corset, bracers and cloak most of the beige will be covered.  :)

I'm opting to leave the Photobucket issue alone.  Not going there...lol

I realized that the tunic I received is not the one I ordered, so I've contacted the seller and they're willing to let me switch for the one I wanted, but in black.  Originally I didn't want to be all in black but once I put everything together the brown was just too... brown.  So I will be exchanging the tunic for a black one (even though, apparently, the one I got is better than the one I ordered) and then waiting on the rest.  I'm super, super excited though... can't wait for my saber to arrive (or even just the shipping notice will do for now!) and to complete my costume.  Lord Rapine and I have aspirations to visit different events dressed up.

Little tip - if you are planning on wearing all black for your costume, make sure to use different textures and materials for the different layers to give the costume depth.

Hey you could put like a leather thing over the buttons to hide them? Hope this tunic turns out better for the one you wanted. KhloesCustomClothing is good though, I got a Jedi tunic set from her, good to talk with too =] What saber did you get to go with your costume?

I've got a leather obi-like belt coming that I'm hoping will cover most of the buttons.  As for the saber, I got the Dominix LE V4 with the violet amethyst blade, flash on clash to silver.  I'm hoping it will be as awesome as I expect it to be based on Lord Rapine's Manticore that he received. 

I love my Manticore.  I don't think that US makes non-awesome sabers though.  I mean, I guess if you emailed them and asked...

I can't wait to try that actually. :)

My raffle entry and prize arrived today!  I ordered two Dominix V4 LE and a coupler to make an awesome staff.  My prize is a Dark Menace with Violet blade, which has been given to my daughter and we will be sending it in soon to add sound and change the blade to orange.  Lord Rapine's surprise arrived too... I bought him a Dark Catalyst, red blade, red flash on clash (he'll post his own pictures, I'll upload a video of him unboxing it soon!)

So this is what I've got for my costume so far... I'm doing away with that brown belt, need something to cover up those buttons with, and have armour just waiting to be bought.  I'm in need of a cape/cloak and then, I believe, I'm done!  What do you think?

I actually quite like the brown belt. It stands out just enough to be interrsting, but doesn't detract from the rest of the costume. Where are you getting the robe from? Jedi america? Twin rose? Mystik merchant?

I like it. what form of armor do you have your eye on waiting in the wings.  <---- always curious.

I like it, and it seems like it would be pretty decent for combat too, and give you fairly good freedom of movement. :)

Thanks, I shall think about keeping it.  I do have a similar belt coming in from China so it will take a while to get here.  Says end of next week on the tracking email so we'll see.  The robe I'm not sure.  I've found a decent one on a LARP website from Canada so prices are similar but no exchange rates/border fees.

As for armour, I found A really cool tasset belt and jacket that's purple and black and would look great so that's what I'm going for.   Here's a pic from online...

If you're planning to cosplay all day in an outfit, comfort is a huge consideration.  For example, for me a heavy, layered Kylo Ren outfit is fine because I need to be warm (even indoors in air conditioning!), but for someone else that would be completely intolerable except for a short time.  You look less likely to get cold in that outfit.  It would probably still be too cold for *me* but at least now I don't freeze just by *looking* at it! ;)

That belt has a nice Old Republic feel to it...I like it!

I've been told our venues are quite warm, and they're taking place in summer so I'm thinking I'll be ok.  I tend to run cold all the time too so I think with the cape and everything I should be just right lol

I think the brown belt looks quite good but it may not go quite as good with your armor being purple.  ;)

The outfit looks Sithy and like it allows a large freedom of movement.  Very promising.

It's that stern look on your face that terrifies me more than the lightsabers, I feel like you're going to Force Choke me through the screen.  I get the feeling that between the two of you that you are the Master and LR is the Apprentice.

Agreed.  Will have to wait until I get the armor to see how it looks.  I have a black belt on its way which is a similar style just black so I might use that or just scrap the belt all together.

Odd question, but just looking for some size comparison for the wife, as shes somewhat vertically challanged.

How tall (short??) are you, and are those the 32" blades or the 24"?

I'm 5'7 and I have the 24" blades

How does that work for you? Too short? Right size? My wife is about the same size as you.

That picture is misleading. The blades look longer than 24".

It's a great size for me.  I haven't hit the ground with it yet, if that helps.  Any bigger would be too big, I think.

Nice thanks. The wife is getting the Phantom Initiate V4. Little shorter hilt, but i wasn't sure if the blades would need an upgrade in size or not.

That actually helps me(I'm the same height). I'd been going back and forth between 24" and 30" but I guess I need 24's.

I'm using 24'' too, it's perfect, and I would recommand it even for bigger persons. the saberstaff is a beast with the hilts itself, you can just shorten it more with initiate/apprentice hilts, and lengthen it with big hilts; no need for longer blades, really

I'm 6'3" and I have the Force FX Darth Maul Staff, which easily stands at 7' and I have a hard time managing it. Methinks a shorter one would be great for even me.

Well Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada's 2016 Comic Con was a success.  My costume felt good, I felt good, and I got good reactions.  :)  All in all I believe we were a success!

Thanks for sharing these pics as it saves me having to ask whether the colour of the scales was graduated - the pics show they are. (I wasn't sure if the colours came from the ambient glow from your staff!)

I like to think I'm Malevolent Melaina when I'm in costume.  It's more fun and easier for me to hide my nerves! LOL

I think that's how a lot of us feel. Costume does change more than just your appearance. I feel mentally much stronger in costume, its pure escapism I think.

I'm with Darth Acervus on that.  Wearing your costume does feel like an escape, and I think everybody needs that once in a while, especially at Comic Con when there is so much going on.

Just saw this, and I'm loving the blue and purple together on the costume.  Always did love those two colors together, and it's a great change from the typical red accents you see on Sith!  Really reminds me of a SWTOR Sith Assassin.

Yeah, it goes perfectly with the saberstaff.  I think the blue and purple actually make it more menacing than red would.

Edit: And assassin is a subclass of an inquisitor - DER!

Haha yeah, that was what I intended.  Figured Inquisitor wasn't specific enough, since the Sorcerer subclass uses a single saber.
