Title: Old Republic Shockstaff WIP Post by: Kouri on March 30, 2016, 02:16:03 PM Finishing up a build for MegaCon. Here's the reference image:
(http://i.imgur.com/NGxcNrw.jpg) And a quick snapshot of the progress so far: (http://i.imgur.com/0GosRJv.jpg) Cosplay build I'm working on from spare parts. Heavily modified Standard Issue pommel, Shock emitter, misc MHS body. LED's a one-up Luxeon Rebel Blue. A bit greener than the Guardian Blue LED, it's almost Arctic, but without the color-mixing. Video demo since I just got the electronics wired up last night: http://www.instagram.com/p/BDjigzxsnmS/ Heat-formed a threaded PVC adapter around the Standard Issue pommel to make an MHS-PVC adapter. Staff extensions are 1" conduit with an extra layer of PVC to make the staff a uniform 1.45" OD. Hand guard in the middle of the blade is more 1" conduit, this time with the extra rings only at the ends. Detail painting later this week. Title: Re: Old Republic Shockstaff WIP Post by: Zren Tobas on March 30, 2016, 05:51:37 PM Very cool. We need more staff wielders :P As in longer hilts and such like this or a Royal Guard inspired type thing
Title: Re: Old Republic Shockstaff WIP Post by: Karmack on March 30, 2016, 05:57:38 PM That is to cool. Nice work to date, and very nice indeed. While I might not really 'get' the idea of a saber pike, this makes great sense and it looks awesome to boot! Well done.
Title: Re: Old Republic Shockstaff WIP Post by: Kouri on March 30, 2016, 06:20:51 PM Good job on the creativity. I like it Thanks a bunch Very cool. We need more staff wielders :P As in longer hilts and such like this or a Royal Guard inspired type thing Yes! Planning on building a pike with the leftover 16" piece of day blade. This one's only using a 24" blade. That is to cool. Nice work to date, and very nice indeed. While I might not really 'get' the idea of a saber pike, this makes great sense and it looks awesome to boot! Well done. Mm, I wouldn't have understood the mid-blade grip on a saber, but since this is more of an ancient Electrostaff, I'm enjoying the design quite a bit. I enjoy seeing this crative approach to a saber pike! That is to cool. Nice work to date, and very nice indeed. While I might not really 'get' the idea of a saber pike, this makes great sense and it looks awesome to boot! Well done. It becomes much clearer when you spar against one. Formidable weapons that can keep multiple enemies locked out with no risk to the wielder. It is simply a lightspear. At a glance the outfit looks simple but that cant be further from the truth, its gonna take a lot of work Title: Re: Old Republic Shockstaff WIP Post by: Caedyss on April 15, 2016, 10:27:47 AM At a glance the outfit looks simple but that cant be further from the truth, its gonna take a lot of work Oh trust me I know. I just wanna see it when its done. Seeing all the hard work and awesomeness people put into costumes is one of the best parts of any Fan Expo. I dont make my own costumes so it never has that perfectly tailored feel, so I also respect those who have the talent to make them themselves. Title: Re: Old Republic Shockstaff WIP Post by: Kouri on April 15, 2016, 02:59:11 PM Ah, sorry guys, I'm only responsible for the staff on this build - my own MegaCon costume's Kylo Ren with a scratch-built crossguard.
Should have some progress pics on this staff next week. Two more coats of highlights to wrap up this weekend, a coat of clear, then some shading on Tuesday. Would love a tutorial on how to make this, atleast the basic design. Title: Re: Old Republic Shockstaff WIP Post by: Kouri on April 18, 2016, 01:25:40 PM Would love a tutorial on how to make this, atleast the basic design. If you've the money to spend, it's basically a standard saber hilt with 24" blade and a couple of Yari extensions. Only difference is I made a custom MHS-PVC adapter and made some PVC staff extensions. ----------- Anywho, I finally wrapped up all the paint last night. Still need to snap a proper gallery, but here's a shot of the hilt alone with the staff endcap screwed in. It definitely harkens back to that time period nicely. Have a point! I really love this.

Didn't get too many pics, since I had to have this delivered ASAP, but here's a shot of the individual components and a full-body shot. Top grip's just a 1" sleeve slid over a single 26" blade. Title: Re: Old Republic Shockstaff WIP Post by: GQtattooed on May 13, 2016, 12:29:23 PM I like it a lot. Awesome work!
