Title: The " Menace Project" A Grey Jedi's Saber Post by: Bulvoy on April 02, 2016, 01:37:43 AM Good Evening,
As some of you may know i just can't leave anything alone, I decked out my manticore a while back, This time I have my concept for the Menace. 2-channel Emerald B+S FOC V4 sound. Extra parts, I ordered a Raven SS pommel & an extra menace emitter in black since i will be providing various contrast on the entire Hilt. (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/Original_zps5n2l2prq.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/Original_zps5n2l2prq.jpg.html) I will be making the windows bigger, texture on the inner sleeve, slight paint job on lines, risers on the grip, My method of leather a wrap, a medallion. project will be in a couple of phases. Tools for this phase- Drill , Dremel & Needle Files Phase I - windows in the emitter Bigger. As i quickly found out the aluminum is alot tougher than some would think. the outer sleeve, easy, the inner core MUCH thicker. i drilled pilot holes, took some meat off with my dremel,( careful not to mess up the existing shape & weaken anything) then switched to needle files to get the shape/angles i wanted. (LONG PROCESS, 7 man hrs LOL.) This is just the outcome on the fit, Of course later on ill touch up the lines with paint. PILOT HOLES (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/Emitter%20cut%201pilot%20holes_zpsah9is9vd.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/Emitter%20cut%201pilot%20holes_zpsah9is9vd.jpg.html) Dremel, Them Filing Begins on outer sleeve, I decided i wanted the top when looking at it different from the underside (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/Emitter%20cut%20outs_zpsmxj58lwp.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/Emitter%20cut%20outs_zpsmxj58lwp.jpg.html) Inner Sleeve work, again Dremel then needle files, this part took a long time, because of the thickness. (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/Inner%20Sleeve%20Marked%20amp%20filed_zpsqumdi4ur.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/Inner%20Sleeve%20Marked%20amp%20filed_zpsqumdi4ur.jpg.html) As i worked i thought lets make some texture to show off the inner sleeve (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/Texture20Inner20sleeve_zpsqftxjl5l.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/Texture20Inner20sleeve_zpsqftxjl5l.jpg.html) After many test fits to line up the new exposed windows Im pretty satisfied with the outcome, the edges will be touched up with the paint job later. (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/Emitter20Fit20with20cut20outs_zpsnqmdcde6.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/Emitter20Fit20with20cut20outs_zpsnqmdcde6.jpg.html) Thanks for checking it out. Lots more to come..... Title: Re: The " Menace Project" A Grey Jedi's Saber Post by: Bulvoy on April 02, 2016, 02:58:57 PM Thanks everyone for the warm appreciation. I'm no professional by any means. Long ways to go. But fun. Going to do some emitter work and distress some leather today somewhere between my daughters softball practice. ( Coach 4 yrs running) And the woman wanting to go out tonight lol
As someone who is constantly putting holes in this aluminum I appreciate the man hours statement lol. This gave me even more respect for your projects. The dremel can be a little too wild at times for very small controlled lines even with the flex attatchment so yeah sore fingers with needle files was the way to go. It defiantly surprised me the toughness of inner sleeve.Title: Re: The " Menace Project" A Grey Jedi's Saber Post by: Shield madien on April 03, 2016, 02:51:12 AM Very Sweet !!! Amazing like always. That's how the windows should come :D. Can't wait to see your leather work +1
Title: Re: The " Menace Project" A Grey Jedi's Saber Post by: Bulvoy on April 08, 2016, 01:34:33 AM Alrighty phase II.
work done: Cut grooves in Emitter itself Added Angled holes in Emitter for more light. Scroll work in Aurebesh start of the paint job. Its still ROUGH, need touch up on paint, and smooth out some lines on the engraving, here i cut/ filed grooves on the Emitter itself, to match the grooves on the raven SS pommel, Added some Aurebesh. It spells out " Fortitude ". Been a long time i engraved something so, its a little sloppy. Gave it a quick paint job so i could see it better, will be going back for re- lines, and a surface polish. added some texture to the outer grooves. I added some more holes to pass some more light through. I drilled at an upward angle, so that the light when passes through goes downward, and it produced a unique reflection. (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/engraving%20emitter_zpsu2dq60mz.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/engraving%20emitter_zpsu2dq60mz.jpg.html) (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/new%20holes%20lighted_zps8tot9cfm.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/new%20holes%20lighted_zps8tot9cfm.jpg.html) Finally painted the sleeve housing, i will be going over it with more black, cause at this point it makes me think tie-died shirt pattern, i may remove it all and go for a crackle pattern. thats it for now, next up leather risers and wrap (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/emitter%20painted_zpsryeh938p.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/emitter%20painted_zpsryeh938p.jpg.html) Title: Re: The " Menace Project" A Grey Jedi's Saber Post by: RevanReborn on April 08, 2016, 07:40:02 AM Wow man, this just keeps getting more impressive! LOVE the aurebesh on the emitter. The windows are a nice addition too, they do throw the light down in cool way. Engraving is such a pain lol, I'm STILL working away at mine- I need to give myself breaks by working on other aspects of my mod for periods of time just because i get sick of the etching! I find that when I return to engraving again, even after such a short break, it feels like I'm totally rusty/ starting all over again lol- so can only imagine what a pain must have been if haven't done for a long time. Point incoming.
Title: Re: The " Menace Project" A Grey Jedi's Saber Post by: Bulvoy on April 23, 2016, 05:07:11 AM Ok short read But I AM DONE :) , After 4 different paint jobs, and numerous changes until i was satisfied, she's done
Just a side note this Raven pommel makes the POB balance Perfect just up onto the blade , compared to the original pommel which is too light.Moved the Covertec wheel to the bottom ( for better carry). removed and sealed some of the decorative buttons, the black paint finish on the emitter and pommel, was an experiment. tried a splash, hated it.... tried a brush hated it.... tried a crackle paint hated it.... tried a wrinkle hated it...... so the experiment came out something i liked, basically, black paint base- dry, applied a thin layer of wood glue ( yes wood glue), then another layer of black, mashed that around with some saran wrap, then hit it with a hair drier close and far for some effect. Done, Distressed leather wrap, sandpaper for distress, sealed with tandy sheen. added leather cord design, to cap off the edging on wrap i slapped 2 O rings in the edge grooves, added my electro etched medallion. Im sure im forgetting to mention stuff, but was an over haul. I will be making some other post on the blade plug, and a small written & pic tutorial on my leather wrap process which i had promised some of you a while back, BEFORE>>>>> (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/019dacb6-347d-4fa5-a472-6d81596e5288_zpsnued8dl4.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/019dacb6-347d-4fa5-a472-6d81596e5288_zpsnued8dl4.jpg.html) INTRO FOR>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/Sig%201%20named_zpsazlfygsn.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/Sig%201%20named_zpsazlfygsn.jpg.html) (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/1.%20Main_zpsl2ggpkpy.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/1.%20Main_zpsl2ggpkpy.jpg.html) (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/2.%20emitter%20group_zpshm6jeian.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/2.%20emitter%20group_zpshm6jeian.jpg.html) (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/5.%20Grip_zpsuju5xmza.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/5.%20Grip_zpsuju5xmza.jpg.html) (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/3.20Pommel_zpstkcqbbxq.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/3.20Pommel_zpstkcqbbxq.jpg.html) (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/4.%20Medallion_zps2pj0wkln.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/4.%20Medallion_zps2pj0wkln.jpg.html) If your wondering why the color looks funy, I didnt feel like plugging it it to take the Pulse mode off (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/6.%20In%20Hand_zpsyamvwpai.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/6.%20In%20Hand_zpsyamvwpai.jpg.html) (http://i1144.photobucket.com/albums/o488/Bulvoy/Menace%20Project/Blade%20Plug%20Group_zpsfjjkyexz.jpg) (http://s1144.photobucket.com/user/Bulvoy/media/Menace%20Project/Blade%20Plug%20Group_zpsfjjkyexz.jpg.html) Title: Re: The " Menace Project" A Grey Jedi's Saber Post by: shade_1313 on April 23, 2016, 05:36:04 AM (https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/2f/91/49/2f9149fb25376bef4067eda1e6812c57.jpg)
Title: Re: The " Menace Project" A Grey Jedi's Saber Post by: Giglamesh on April 23, 2016, 07:29:46 AM I'm just gonna hang out here and give you points for a while. The custom emiter end with the engravings and that awesome blade plug, that is effing amazing. Don't know what distressed is but guessing that how you got the leather super tight, and that triangle in it is also awesome. While it probably tiny little touch I like the most, the black button to accent the painted emiter piece just frelling sings to me nice work.

The Raven SS pommel looks great on it, and I love the hilt wrap and emitter engraving. Will definitely give you a point now and come back for another later ;)

I'd go so far as to say some of the best leather wrap results I've seen here on saberforum . . . . +1 :) Thanks. I've had a little practice :). Use any ideas ya like. That's why we're all in this section for creativityI also especially like the grooves and symbols cut into the emitter, very creative . . . . I'd like to borrow some of those idea's one day also . . . . cheers :) Still here still with points, but got to ask what kinda of leather is that? Next project I'm using some actual leather so looking I. To the distressing like you mentioned. It's leather my preference is lambskin or goatskin.. This piece is lambskin around 1- 1/2 oz. Ita strong yet supple/ can stretch enough whwn moistened. For wraps your best bet is to stick to 1 oz range leather. The thicker it is the harder it is to shape designs. I'll send you a pm when I put up a small tutorial this weekend including methods & materials. So you can check it out. Along with resource links for anyone interested.on hides, sample squares etcTitle: Re: The " Menace Project" A Grey Jedi's Saber Post by: Giglamesh on April 27, 2016, 08:01:55 PM Awesome got a bag of scrap leather (ironically actually nice pieces) from hobby lobby and getting excited for my grab bag too see what color it's getting.

Crunched it up from the inside pressed lightly with an iron. Then I ran sandpaper over it lightly hitting only the raised parts. I had promised a tutorial leather wrap video. I have the writen version with pictures done . Just working on a short demo video then I will be uploading it
