Title: My First Saber / Customization
Post by: znz212 on May 16, 2016, 12:00:44 AM
Hello all!  I'm brand new to the Ultra Sabers community.

I've liked looking through everyone's custom saber modifications and wanted to contribute my own.

After much deliberation, I finally ordered my first saber, the Archon V2.1.
I'm incredibly impressed with the build quality of the saber, as well as the amazing turnaround time.  I ordered it on Sunday, and had it in my hands on Friday.  This includes build time, plus shipping and customs clearance into Canada.

I decided to take it one step further and personalize it a bit, as many of you have.  Turns out my idea for adding leather isn't as original as I thought, but here it is.

First I added a coil of twisted brass wire to the emitter.
Then I bought some leather, punched some holes, and laced it up with 2mm leather cording.  As a finishing touch, I added some stitching to match my blade and power light colour.

With the Canadian exchange rate, and shipping, I'm not sure when I'll be able to afford another saber, but I'm more than thrilled with my purchase and will certainly try to become a repeat customer.

Happy dueling, everyone!

Thanks for the warm welcome and the positive feedback so far!

I'm actually debating adding some weathering to it.  Nothing too drastic, just some light wear and tear.
What are your opinions?

Considering you have a silver hilt, you'd probably have to dry-brush some black paint on there (make sure to apply a clear coat afterwards)!

Looks aweome man :). Nice job- I def hear you on the CA exchange... I swear sometimes I'd have more luck placing orders with wooden nickels lol.  Lotta Canadians getting into the mix these days, eh? love that :).

UPDATE!

I decided to try adding some weathering to it, make it look more rugged like it's been used by an epic Jedi for years. Scorch marks and grime.

Pretty happy with how it turned out. I may try some dry brushing on the black metal to add some more wear to it.

The weathering around the emitter is a great idea...scorch marks.... Makes perfect sense. Nice work on the pommel as well.

Nice job. I like the stitching and the wire work. I may have to look into wire for a mod. What size and type did you use?

Thanks!

I grabbed some decorative wire from Michaels.  It's 20 Guage, twisted wire.
I originally grabbed some thicker stuff because I thought it might look more like a magnetic coil, but it wasn't too easy to work with.
