Title: Mantis customization help
Post by: nathanielreykun on November 20, 2016, 07:37:00 AM
Hey guys! So I just bought the Mantis CE as a Christmas gift for my wife, but there was some customization I was wanting to do so it could better suit her needs, but to do so I have to remove the infamous bottom shroud. As many of you know, this can not be done without removing the bottom half of the body altogether, which is impossible due to the speaker holding it in place. I have read where people managed to accomplish this, but I could never find exactly how they went about doing so. As far as I can see, the only was to do this would be to cut the wires holding it together and then solder them back together, and while I'm decent enough with a soldering iron, I'd rather just avoid that altogether so as to prevent mishaps. So if you have any experience with bypassing the speaker on this or any other saber, I would greatly appreciate it if you'd share how you went about this. I don't have a Mantis. Just a curious observer. From the examples, it looks like it has lots of MHS compatible parts that can be unscrewed. If you unscrew the curved part from the handle part, can the shroud be removed without getting stuck on the speaker?

In short, no. While everything unscrews just fine, the speaker seems to be made to fit right into where the threads end, and wouldn't go any further. I didn't try to force it, as I thought that might not be in my best interests.

However, I have had a thought. Another thing I was going to do was switch out my red AV switch for a purple one, which Ultrasabers unfortunately does not offer. Now by my understanding, the switch is what essentially holds all the wiring in place, so theoretically, when I remove this, the rest should be able to slide out, with a careful and sturdy hand. It's a lot of movement, but it should work, but anyone feel free to correct me before I go and do this if I'm wrong.
