Hey all,

So my brother and I have always looked at getting a light saber, and we determined that the grab bag would probably be the best way to go about doing so.  I would just like to ask what kind of hilts everyone has gotten in their grab bag? Thanks for the help everyone!  :)

Welcome to the forum. You do need to read and acknowledge the rules before posting if you would please.
I think a grab bag is pretty up in the air on what your going to get. I've seen lots of people getting initiates, Aeons, sometimes LE versions and some of the other lower end sabers.  I think the grab bag link they post on the sale page gives you a brief description of what you can expect. Occasionally you will see a Prophecy from a grab bag, but that's about it. In my opinion at the moment I'd get a mystery box for $75. It's your best chance of getting a nice saber.

Thank you Jediseth.  Just as clarification, I'd like to know why you would recommend the mystery box over the grab bag.  Is it just the chance of sound in it or is it something else? Thanks! :)

By the time you add in a blade, the cost is about the same isn't it?  My grab bag was a Dark Sentinel LE with windows in Guardian Blue.  It's the one I take to cons so people can take pictures with me when I'm in costume.

I have that cued up on the last page, so that you can see what kinds of hilts people have gotten more recently.

Personally, I wouldn't necessarily suggest a Mystery Box over a Grab Bag.  Both can be pretty good deals.  I've personally gotten some really nice sabers in Grab Bags.  I've received: Initiate LE V4 with windows and AV switch in BR, Aeon LE V4 with AV switch in GB, (I requested GB on that one) Aeon V3 with AV switch in GB and a Dark Sentinel V4 with AV switch in FO.  With two of them I ordered blades, with the other two I didn't.  That's one nice thing about Grab Bags, you can choose to order it without a blade if you don't need one.  Though, you can add a 36" blade for only $15, which isn't a bad deal at all, and you can choose mid grade or heavy at no additional cost, unlike Mystery Boxes, where you pay more for heavy grade.  Also, for $5 extra you can choose your blade color with Grab Bags, Mystery Boxes are 100% random in hilt style and color.

Anyway, that's my take on Grab Bags.  They're still a good deal, even with Mystery Boxes.  After all, you could order a $75 Mystery Box and still receive something like a Initiate or Aeon, etc. with no sound.  (though, it's still a good deal either way)

I like the chance to get sound for $75. I just think your getting a better chance of getting something nicer than just getting a grab bag. Your going to get what you paid for and a nice saber either way at minimum.

I got a freakin Graflex with Obsidian 3 Sound and Emerald Driver. Amazing! For 75 bucks! Also got two Sentinels! I've ordered some more now.

This is EXACTLY why I hope Grab Bags never get taken away from the store. That and we all know that it's lower end hilts these days, so it's a great way to buy a random project hilt or an inexpensive add on to an order if you want an easy gift for someone or just a new beater to practice with.

The blade option should be on ALL sabers. I'm so close to throwing some of my blades out because I'm sick of them taking up so much room.

I wish I had that problem, I've broken a couple of mine and I have just about enough.

Grab bags definitely make great project sabers.  You may not feel comfortable taking apart a $200 saber, but a $55 one?  Sure, why not?  I've actually disassembled all of my Grab Bag sabers, two have been upgraded to sound and two I've done things to I wouldn't have tried on a higher end hilt, which are experimental cosmetic changes.  If I bought a $75 Mystery Box and wound up with a higher end hilt, I probably wouldn't want to mess with it unless it was something I was less fond of.

My advice is just get a saber. You will like it so much I predict you'll end up getting more down the road. The rest of us did. 😊

Does it really matter? Any saber you get will be an awesome one even if its simple as can be :P I think its all Initiates and V4's though now giving the covertech wheel option
