Title: Lightsaber Carrying Cases
Post by: Zren Tobas on October 30, 2011, 07:11:21 AM
Whats a best way to make a lightsaber carrying case or to buy an aluminum case? I would like to get one big enough to hold 2 future Obsidian sabers. Thanks for the info. =] My first one is going to be a VA Bane and then a GB Bellicose both with Obsidian. Anyone can PM me with info on local stores to buy em if you want that way you don't get in trouble. I would want one big enough to hold both sabers and the re-charge system. I will have the Bellicose sometime next spring then I will be good with my US Obsidian collection. Then I will be working on my brother's and wife's sabers, for my bro it'll be the Consular in BS with Obsidian still, my wife a Jedi War Glaive but with black claws and in CG. Unless a new flanged saber comes out then I will get that for my wife.

Do you want to store them with or without the blades in?

Store without the blades in for like when I travel and such.

Gun case and pick foam?

Someone around here made a kick ass wooden case but I'm too lazy to dig it up.

polio

A gun case would be great.

Maybe pricey, but it would work.

I made my own using a cheap wooden case.

Yeah, that.

Also, you can get pretty decent gun cases for not too much money, especially considering the cost of what you'd be putting into into them.

I will see what I can do. My city actually has a gun shop so I will check into it. Or maybe if I can find one, maybe like, those cases that you get with the deluxe poker games and such, I was thinking one big enough might work too plus it would cost less too. I figured being proud to own 2 kick ass Obsidian sabers deserved to have a cool carrying case incase I decide to bring the sabers along. I think the Bane and Bellicose sabers are US's best sabers next to the Consular and Archon V2 sabers.

Oh and I looked at Toys R Us for the poker aluminum cases but they all come with the games, i'm just wanting the case alone. Got any ideas of where to look? I might be able to do my carrying case project. =] US should start making stickers too! For anyone who has a carrying case for their lightsabers they can deck their case in some US stuff. xp Do some stickers with the traditional logo then some of with their best sabers too, that'd be cool. Do like a Bane, Bellicose, and Consular signature sticker series.

Redacted per forum Rule #3 - No mentions of competitors

I'm a broke bloke so I got me one o' these

I don't need a tools pocket because I use thumbscrews to retain blades, and I stunt so I don't care if hilts scratch each other up.
Works dandy. Fairly low-profile.

This is cute

I'm leaning more toward gun cases just because the decent ones are also water proof which is a plus, but the downside is it looks like you're carrying rifles around... I guess that's almost unavoidable in it's own way once you're carrying the blades concealed anyway. I do suppose logos and customization lower the level of intimidation/"what's in the case" though. I'd prefer to make something but waterproofing just feels like a must have in the long run. Might also be worth considering if there are cheaper instrument cases with straps for ease of carrying them around? Research time...

Guitar cases?  They used those in the old movies to carry firearms around, though, so that might not be the best idea for avoiding funny looks, and you’d need a short blade and hilt combo to fit, anyway.

Towels. Wrap inside towels. Find huge rubber bands. Get affordable duffel bag.

I put my uncoupled saberstaff into a sword carrying case I picked up for under $30. It has two main compartments, so I can keep my sabers from banging around directly against each other, or you can keep a single saber in one compartment and other larger items in the other, and there are two smaller compartments as well for batteries, tools, couplers, pommels, tape, etc. Nice adjustable strap as well, and a few color options. The Chinese characters on it may be something that's a pro, con, or indifferent to everyone though. Length is ~42.5", so if you have a longer saber, it likely won't fit with the blades attached to the hilt. I'm thinking a 32" blade would be a really close fit, if it fits at all, for some larger hilts, so maybe that's not the best option for most people.

I'm partial to stuffing the blade and hilt into two separate pool noodles and then cramming the lot into a tripod case or dufflebag, lol.

Lol, pool noodles, I am preferable to the pure functionality of the concept... currently I've always got a towel and a backup to wrap my hilts in so they don't bump too much. Then yeah the good ole stuff them in a bag approach hasn't failed yet, but I'm desirous of an upgrade.

If you are looking to have space for sparring gear etc. in addition to your sabers, here is something I made a couple years ago.  Works great!

Tube socks also work well as protective sheaths for the hilts.  As far as getting some affordable duffle bags, I would try an Army/Navy surplus store, or maybe your local thrift shop.
