Title: Dominix V3 Staff Dark VA and FO
Post by: wings516 on November 09, 2011, 01:33:54 AM
First off, I would like to say that I have only had this saber for around 2 hours.  So I won't cover anything major at the moment.

First impressions:
Came out of box, batteries charged, ready to go!  +1 for US on knowing that the first thing I would want to do is turn it on and not charge batteries.
Heavy, about 3 times the weight of my heaviest wooden staff, but balanced right (to me) and the choke points on it are fun for spinning.
the 32" blade lengths are a good length I feel.
Colors are perfect.  I am glad I didn't go with Pyrestone and I really love the color of the Fire Orange.  The heavy blades I have on don't diminish the vibrancy or the luminescence of the colors at all (to me).  If these get brighter with the standard blades, that is some intense light.
I have no intentions of dual wielding these.  It already feels perfect as it is.  I would only go single saber for duels with my wife >=)
For some reason the alan they gave me doesn't fit the screws for the blades.  Meh.

Well I know most of these threads are useless without pictures so.

A lot of people say its hard to capture the true color of the blades in pictures, but this image pretty well displays what my eyes see.

The grooves in it are ok.  I am still playing around with a sweet spot that fits me, but I personally think the choke points are phenomenal for grip and manipulating the blade.  I won't hold it on the flat surface, only the choke points.  With four choke points on a staff setup you really have a nice selection of things you can do.

Did both sabers come with separate li-ion setups or ?

Call me dumb but I'm not grasping the "Staff Setup" option.

Anyone care to explain if you have a moment?

Kham, I think he went to the "Double Bladed Sabers" section and ordered a Phantom V3.  The Li-lon set up is a few more dollars than a standard saber, ya probably get four batteries and one charger.

Thought I would do a quick update since I have owned it for a while now.  I find myself using single blade a bit more than the staff setup.  I think the two hilts together are a bit longer (1-3 inches) than they should be.  If I get another staff setup I will most likely get the initiate hilts and combine those.  I could probably opt for the longer blade option as well.

I also couldn't imagine using a coupler to increase the gap.  I reallllllyyyyy want to get sound for this setup but I just can't bring myself to increase the hilt length any more.

I see a lot of people using the staff like mine but with full length blades.. I don't know how they think it is comfortable.

As far as use, I have beat the living hell out of this thing.  I am still using the same blades.  My wife, friends, etc, get into heavy fights, and there have been multiple occassions where the tips at the end have flown off, but glue fixes that.  It seems to be the real weak point to the blades.  One of my friends thought it would be ok to duel with a normal blade, and I had hit a little low on his blade but the tip shattered and his blade was ruined.
