Title: Dayblades and 410nm true purple.
Post by: Obese Wan Kenobese on May 13, 2018, 03:29:20 AM
I don't have pics online, yet, but I made my own 410nm true purple LED. Photos don't do it justice and look blue or DVA. It's not bright, but I knew it probably wouldn't be. That's why saber makers use the red and blue mix. US gives great options for tweaking. But, I still feel the mix just never gets what I am looking for. This 410nm wavelength did. No one makes it. I wired one myself.

A side note, it performs extremely well with 'enhanced' blades. It isn't good with TCSS's purple dayblade, as the blade is obviously meant for the regular blue/red mix of a more magenta tone. But the 'enhanced' blue is freaking awesome with this. The purple disappears, but the blue edge on the blade is intensely colorful with or without film. It just glows blue. It performs equally well as a blue LED in the green 'enhanced' blade and oddly better with 'enhanced' blue than a regular blue LED.

I've always felt that we keep trying to get brighter LEDs to make more color in well lit environments. But it can become less Star Wars like in a darker room when it's an overpowering glow stick that also lights up the room. Dayblades are like filters that dim the internal light while keeping color in ambient light reflectively, but most lose brightness. 'Enhanced' blades can have different affects on ambient light and internal light reactions, mostly responding to blue, and this 410nm purple apparently. As I want something that keeps color in all levels of ambient light, but not monstrously bright in a dark room, the 'enhanced' blades even without film look good to me. The 'enhanced' red is disappointing. It acts as a pale dayblade with red LED or has an odd pinkish glow with blue or 410nm LEDs.

Not bright. Lights on with flash.

Lights on, no flash.

Great color! Camera doesn't do it justice. Lights out, mostly. No flash.

That truly is a gorgeous hue OWK  :)

My compliments on your craftsmanship!

Beautiful Violet you achieved Obese! And to make it yourself, <applauds>

Great work! You going to share how it is made?

I just wired a tri cree with 410nm LEDs into a TCSS 1 inch module. I didn't mean to sound like I MADE the LED. I meant saber makers aren't using it. No one makes it...for sabers. The LED can be purchased and wired. So, anyone who solders their own LEDs could do it. Soldering makes me crazy. The solder tries to escape when it turns liquid. Then, it solidifies in the wrong place and won't turn liquid again. But, I soldered this time with TCSS equipment and a custom LED. I wired it all up and got the color I was searching for.

Search 410nm LED, if you want to try your own.

Nice work! I need to learn to solder and do my own wiring.

There are also options like lime green, cyan and deep red than can be tri cree. I'm just loving the 'enhanced' blade lime green with a tri blue or this 410nm. I'm a little tempted to try a tri deep red. I hear the deep red is not as bright, but that's why a little orange in included in regular red LEDs. So, a tri deep red or quad pod could be awesome. Somebody on this forum did a quad pod deep red, I think.

No film in these. Just the enhanced glow. No tips, so you can see the LED color on the wall. My camera doesn't know what to make of purple.

410nm purple on left, US blue on right. Performing with TCSS 'enhanced' green and blue blades.

The 410nm performs better with the blue blade than the blue LED does. They each perform equally well with the green blade.

With the flash to demonstrate how the 'enhanced' blades do with ambient light.

Awesome stuff.

I've been messing around with around with a cheapie single 3w "UV blue" LED and a photon blade since I saw this post.  It is as close to a screen accurate blade apperance as I have been able to make.  The center is a very bright, very light blue and the edge of the tube really pops as bright green.  I have just started playing with it, but it is a really cool effect.  Very different from any of the other blades (regular, ultra edge or enhanced) that I have.  I am also working on other applications for it because it is so stunning (for instance, I'm redoing the build of my custom westar carbine to incorporate more windows to show off this combo).
