Title: The Butcher Post by: cujoe_da_man on November 18, 2018, 08:27:10 PM Anyone bought or know someone that has bought The Butcher? Just curious because it looks super uncomfortable to me. I have yet to see a real picture of it, just the test renders they have in its place. It looks like all the ridges and spikes would cut into your palm if you tried to wield it.

Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Malik Thanewulf on November 18, 2018, 09:17:38 PM Hey cujoe, fellow Grey Jedi, i am waiting for my Butcher to be delivered. I've seen pictures and very comprehensive reviews of it. It beastly, but, i think it's pretty cool. If you have smaller hands, it could be a problem.
Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: chalion on November 18, 2018, 03:35:36 PM From the reviews I have watched, it's much too big for my smallish hands, so the claws would actually hurt if I would use it in a duel, or combat. My hand, from base of my thumb, to tip of my index/pointer finger is just over 5 inches. So, in this pic for example:
(https://i.imgur.com/HttGqEp.jpg) My grip on my Graflex CE leaves about 35mm or 1-1/3" gap in my grip. The Graflex is 1.537 inches wide at that point. The Butcher, is 1.6 inches, i'm supposing more with the claws, so my grip would be rather loose, especially if your grip is weak like mine is. Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: scifidude79 on November 18, 2018, 11:09:28 PM I have long fingers and can just close my hand around the top part, where it's thickest. Definitely the middle of the grip area is best for holding it. However, I wouldn't classify this as a wielding hilt at all. It's more of a display and cosplay piece to me. It looks gorgeous and deadly. Literally deadly. You could bludgeon someone with it. But, I would look elsewhere for a menacing looking saber for wielding in combat or spinning, such as the Raven or War Glaive.
Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Edon Bluewolf on November 19, 2018, 03:39:50 AM The search function should yield plenty of threads with pics but LSG did a good job of highlighting some links for you.
Also here is an unboxing video I did if that helps you any (the Butcher part starts around 4:00): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1VJWIJ_4XM&t=85s Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Dark Path Media on November 19, 2018, 03:58:05 PM I was concerned about the same thing, but I went ahead and purchased it because at minimum; it was quite possibly the best looking hilt I had ever seen. I received it and it is indeed that, but also not entirely uncomfortable to wield, spin, etc. As stated above, the best grip point in terms of spinning is near the middle-bottom of the hilt where the claw extensions protrude from the core hilt the least.
There's no question that it's not nearly as comfortable as a conventional hilt in terms of spinning, but it's certainly do-able and I haven't found it painful in any way to do so; bare-handed with no glove. From my perspective, the claw extensions were something I just had to get used to. In that respect, the Butcher was no different than my Renegade, which due to its sheer weight; required a different wielding approach. My initial compensation for the Butcher was simply a slightly looser grip. Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Kazuto on November 19, 2018, 05:15:37 PM I was going to say "search for it" but it would have come out mean, an Edon included a video,I didn't even feel like getting my picture lol

He's my Butcher. Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Gunner on November 23, 2018, 06:18:40 AM Just watched your video Thanewulf. I really enjoy my Butcher as well. After seeing yours and Bluewolf's blue on blue makes me wish I had gone that route, but black & VA will have to do for now. Thanks for sharing. Dark side point

Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: tx_tuff on November 24, 2018, 07:50:29 AM As you can see in the picture of my black AV switch on my black Butcher it seems even the black is a little lighter in the area. I think the anodizing is just not as thick in these areas for some reason so they give off a lighter appearance. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181124/9b4bc4757fb82ba9e9b9b5618d2e4e32.jpg)

Did you figure out if you got V3 or V4 sound then? Nice review!
Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Malik Thanewulf on November 24, 2018, 05:33:45 PM Sorry, I ordered Lite sound and got V3 upgrade on the sound.
Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Edon Bluewolf on November 24, 2018, 05:35:16 PM That is sweet, congrats!
Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Malik Thanewulf on November 27, 2018, 03:48:46 AM Actually it's an arctic blue blade color. I am loving this saber. Took it to work and everyone went crazy. I passed out a few business cards for Ultrasabers. Two coworkers actually started planning sabers of their own. A third ordered the Spectre today.
Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Edon Bluewolf on November 27, 2018, 03:50:53 AM Point for spreading the good word! :D

Even if I sanded these down, it honestly doesn't feel comfy to hold without any gloves. The grip is just awkward. I love it aesthetically but don't think I'll be tinkering around with it much.
Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Malik Thanewulf on December 04, 2018, 03:16:23 AM Fair enough. Hope you still love it. It's pretty comfortable for me. I was actually entertaining the thought of getting another one...crazy right?

I was actually entertaining the thought of getting another one...crazy right? Ha! Not really because I kind of wanted a red one but chickened out since I didn't see anyone post any pics of one yet. But i kind of want it anyway. I can't judge. I bought two Spectres after all lol Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Malik Thanewulf on December 04, 2018, 04:27:54 AM I'm thinking red Savior. I'd paint the pommel red to match my emmitter. I also think I might get the all black Spectre too. Maybe.

Every time I hear "All black Spectre", I get excited that they released a "Dark Spectre" or something Lol.Title: Re: The Butcher Post by: Golden Fedora on December 04, 2018, 10:16:04 AM When you guys say "All black Spectre", are you referring to the "grip area", as in; just not getting the engraving? Yeah sorry just the classic black version with no engraving lol no sith version is out or anything, though I'd love to see what that concept would look like.
