Title: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: DarthSyronimus on March 13, 2020, 03:47:38 PM My first unboxing video ever...
of my first saber(s) ever... spoilers in my signature though :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s40SJBF9z5M# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s40SJBF9z5M#) (probably won't submit it for the 300 point thing, since I'm planning on reviewing the Dom and App separately) (though if I'm reading things right, you only get one 300 point, no matter how many reviews you put up... until 'round 5'... right?) Order COVID-19 is letting me stay in and practice this whole weekend (instead of chauffering the kids here and there)... hopefully I'll have the chance to make a night-saber vid for Darth Cephalus' march contest and get it posted tonight. :)
Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: Robyn_Goodfellow on March 13, 2020, 06:28:53 PM Excellent review!!
Well done. I’ve ordered my first ever diamond saber and after seeing your review, I’m exceptionally excited. Thank you x This is the first dominicide that I’ve seen with the black detailing and it look beautiful with the black AV switch - great choice! Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: Darth Logos on March 13, 2020, 06:35:22 PM Oh crap. Those emitters are bigger than I thought. :-\

Thank you x This is the first dominicide that I’ve seen with the black detailing and it look beautiful with the black AV switch - great choice! Thanks Robyn. The Dom is a beast and while the vid was uploading, I thought I'd play with the diamond launcher, which is also a beast now that i unlocked all the functionality (by having a saber attached) I think you'll love both, but wow, learning curve is steep. I was actually contemplating trying to figure out how to swap the inner switch from the Apprentice over, so it'd have a black ring, silver internal... it'll also make the Apprentice mimic the latched/guarded switch on the initiate. (or maybe it was vice versa... it was around 3am when I was thinking this up and I'm not 100% awake) :D Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: DarthSyronimus on March 13, 2020, 06:40:09 PM Oh crap. Those emitters are bigger than I thought. :-\ but a lot more shallow, especially compared to the war glaive. Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: Darth Logos on March 13, 2020, 06:42:23 PM but a lot more shallow, especially compared to the war glaive. Let's just say that I'm doubtful the one I just ordered will fit in the box I planned to gift it in.Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: DarthSyronimus on March 13, 2020, 06:43:36 PM Let's just say that I'm doubtful the one I just ordered will fit in the box I planned to gift it in. oh, that's a bummer. hopefully it fits with room to spare for cushioning when it comes in for you. alternatively, gift it with the emitters set aside in their own padded corners? Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: Malik Thanewulf on March 13, 2020, 06:45:45 PM Thanks for sharing your unboxing and review.
Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: DarthSyronimus on March 13, 2020, 06:51:07 PM Point incoming and make sure you post tons of pics too Will do... here's how the single-bladed ones are going to rest, stick-on broom holders against one of my Billy bookcases (https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/i/SyrionSyronimus/0/2020-03-13_03-15-55_483.jpeg) more pics when I get home :D (and yes, I made the Apprentice green for "RGB" when in display mode) Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: Darth Logos on March 13, 2020, 06:55:30 PM oh, that's a bummer. hopefully it fits with room to spare for cushioning when it comes in for you. Well it will get to me with the usual care US puts into their packaging. But I had an idea on how to give it to someone else. Pics to come. ;Dalternatively, gift it with the emitters set aside in their own padded corners? Title: the saga continues Post by: DarthSyronimus on March 14, 2020, 09:13:16 AM Just made a couple videos for the Darth Cephalus March challenge... but it's going to take some time to edit (remove the "turn off light", "put gloves on" etc. portions)
Quick update on the Dark Apprentice LE v5... spinning it was a lot of fun. I even got used to switching fonts while spinning to add to the variation... next will be to modify the announcement to mask the changes in medias res. I wore motorcycle gloves and those helped alot, especially when I grasp the 'wrong' parts of the hilt (emitter window on the Apprentice, for instance) and I think I might be a lefty... I was able to Obi-Ani a lot smoother with my left than my right, even though I've spent the last 40+ years being a righty... who knows. for the dominicide.. where to begin... that thing really is a beast to spin. I was worried about the claws, but with the gloves on, no worries. It's a lot heftier than my walking stick proxy, so I wasn't able to do the hand-over-hand twirl in front of me. On the flip side, strikes were a lot more fun to do with the heavier hilt. Also, double 24" is a lot nimbler than 36" and doesn't look shortened at all. I'll try mismatched 24/36 next time I spin up. My infinity spins on both hands felt more fluid and quicker because of the heft. I whacked myself in the head at one point, but the goggles i was wearing took most of the hit... it still sting more than wooden walking sticks. for those sitting on the fence on a dom, i'd totally say "go for it", especially in standard black. With corona lock down in place, I will hopefully have more time to edit and post... but it also means the kids are at home, which limits the amount of computer time... so, probably a net wash. I look forward to critiques and feedback. I'm thinking I'll jsut keep expanding this thread as I add more pictures and videos. At least it has in my experience. I used to have a phantasm V3 and had to balance the blades. I ran mine with 32” blades most of the time for combat and 24” for spinning and felt this to be the most effective use for the blades. Try it out for yourself and tell me how it worked out for you. I like how you mixed the emitters on Dominicide. It really shows how versatile that beast is.
Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: DarthSyronimus on March 16, 2020, 01:30:10 AM sadness. going to email US. the Dom did not survive our first corona-isolation day. Processing the vid right now...
The set up: my 7yo padawan had her Initiate with 24" UEMG my 10yo had his Dark Apprentice LEv5with 36" UEHG I had my Dominicde in single-blade mode (dark war glaive emitter pommel, 36" UEHG blade) we left the Aeon with 24" UEHG at home for this outing. We went to the local park to practice sparring with me focused on practicing blocks with the Dom while the two kids took turns trying to hit me. My 10yo took off one Dom claw around 5 minutes. My 7yo took out three screws from the hilt, one of those long black bumpers, and shut down the Dom :( (it turned off and wouldn't turn back on) Both kids were horrified at breaking another one of my toys on Day 1 (we broke my Traxxis RC car when my kid plowed his into mine a few years back and I have yet to fix those even though I bought the replacement parts years ago) I'm hoping that last part is just because we were at around the 20 min of sparring mark and had drained the batteries, but the hilt is currently wobbly and loose because of missing screws and the bumper that popped off might have been holding the top and bottom portions (it's the one right next to the access cover (?) that comes off to reprogram the diamond board) The kids then had me on the DA-LEv5 and we did more blocking. After another 10 minutes or so, the DA also ran out of juice. We sparred dark for another 10 or so minutes, which was still fun. Though mostly it was me practicing blocking while they took swings at me. We inspected the sabers afterwards and the DA blade actually got loose enough to pull out. The Initiate survived with power to spare (yay 4xAAA) We had fun, but the kids were worried that we weren't supposed to be sparring with these. Wife asked if the Dom was supposed to be a display-piece/trophy-piece. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyI0hXXfWGA# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyI0hXXfWGA#) Video embedded by your neighborhood, Mod Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: DarthSyronimus on March 16, 2020, 01:32:45 AM I ran mine with 32” blades most of the time for combat and 24” for spinning and felt this to be the most effective use for the blades. I look forward to it, there's quite a bit of us that spin our sabers. Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: DarthSyronimus on March 17, 2020, 08:53:49 AM I look forward to it, there's quite a bit of us that spin our sabers. then I welcome all critiques and feedback! uploaded 6 videos... practice runs for Darth Cephalus' March challenge. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLg1TbESkj9WrSamEsm-bbaxaM8AtBIzKn (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLg1TbESkj9WrSamEsm-bbaxaM8AtBIzKn) Update on the Dominicide: got an allen wrench, tightened all the screws and Dom's back to being nice and tight (no longer wobbly) though I'm missing 2 screws... if US doesn't send me spares, I'll probably wait until Corona Virus lockdown ends to go to HomeDepot or Lowes to pick up replacements, maybe with flat instead of rounded tops. Will probably also consider putting a drop or two of loctite as well, except for the ones that allow access to the diamond board inside. popped the hilt bumper back, will see how well it holds. considering using my plastic mallet to pop out the remaining emitter claws... will think about it. at least everything's back to to normal once I re-tightened all the screws. now sure why sparring would loosen them though. Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: Infinit01 on March 17, 2020, 11:31:55 AM My critique is to work on your planes. With flow art, we typically go with the front and rear planes (lightsaber moving between the front of rear of your body) over the right and left planes since it's harder to see the travel of your lightsaber. You'll spin your saber to the left or right of your body depending on what hand you're using bringing the saber in front of your body, to the back of your body
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he-KXppc8bM# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he-KXppc8bM#) I also recommend visiting the spin tutorial page, there's a lot of content to learn from the basics to duel wield (Jar'Kai) http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=23125.0 (http://www.saberforum.com/index.php?topic=23125.0) Darth Cephalus' single saber work got me started http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf2BA9eUktws29zZjesedQ996qS8oYEpt (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLf2BA9eUktws29zZjesedQ996qS8oYEpt) Title: Re: My first unboxing video... for my first custom saber Post by: DarthSyronimus on March 18, 2020, 02:36:27 AM My critique is to work on your planes.
